Prepare your sandwich while the unit is heating. When the temperature light goes out, fully open the appliance. Place a slice of bread in the bottom half with the buttered side against the plate. Fill the sandwich. Add the top slice with the buttered side up and carefully close the appliance. Do not force shut. The tray is not fitted together with the appliance, so make sure you do not lift the appliance while cooking. Turn the thermostat knob to the MAX position.
