BEFORE PREPARING THE FIRST COFFEE

Before preparing the first coffee, please make the coffee machine work once or twice without any coffee powder in order to remove possible manufacturing residues. Even if the appliance has not been used for a while, we recommend one operation without any coffee powder.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and any transport safety devices.
  2. Clean the glass jug, the permanent filter and the filter holder as described in the chapter „Cleaning and care".
  3. Clean the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth.
  4. Fill the water tank with tap water up to the MAX/10 cups mark. Make sure that there are no coffee beans in the coffee beans container
  5. Connect the plug to the wall socket.

  6. The appliance indicates that it is ready for operation by beeping repeatedly.

  7. The "filter" indicator flashes and is only inactive while preparing coffee and in the programming mode.
  8. Push the button ,MÜHLE AUS" and ,EIN/ AUS" once and let the water run through until the appliance indicates by beeping again that the process has been finished.
  9. Pour this water away.
  10. Switch the appliance off pushing the button "EIN/AUS".

PREPARING COFFEE WITHOUT TIMER

  1. Prepare the appliance as described in chapter "Before preparing the first coffee".
  2. Fill the water tank with the desired amount of clear, fresh water. To do so, you may use the graduated glass jug, which also indicates the number of cups. A minimum of two cups (270 ml) has to be poured in. The maximum amount is of 10 cups (1,350 ml). Make sure not to overfill the water tank as the excess of water will leak from the back of the appliance.
  3. The amount of water poured in is always slightly higher than the amount of coffee, as the coffee powder absorbs some water.
  4. Open the flap of the coffee machine pushing the button "OFFNEN" [open] on the right side of the appliance.
  5. Insert the permanent filter in the filter basket. Alternatively you may use paper filter bags size 4.
  6. When using the permanent filter, coffee grounds may accumulate in the glass jug. This has technical reasons and is not due to a defect of the appliance.
  7. Attention: When using the permanent filter, please make sure that the handle of the permanent filter points to the front of the coffee machine after inserting the filter. Otherwise the handle overlaps the filter and hinders the water from flowing on to the coffee powder.
  8. Remove the lid of the coffee beans container. Fill the coffee beans container with coffee beans. When buying coffee beans, make sure that they are suitable for coffee

grinders. Please do not use coffee beans for fully automatic coffee machines, as the coffee will not have a satisfactory taste due to the different coffee roasting.

  1. Remember that the coffee beans container always has to be half full. The maximum capacity is of approx. 240g
  2. Do not overfill the coffee beans container, in order to avoid damage to the grinder.
  3. Close the coffee beans container with the lid.
  4. Adjust the grinding selector to the desired degree of grinding. You can select between coarse, medium and fine in nine steps.
  5. Connect the plug to the wall socket.
  6. The appliance indicates the readiness for operation by beeping two times.
  7. In case the clock is not yet adjusted, you may adjust it now, but you can also prepare coffee without adjusting the clock. For more information on how to adjust the clock, see chapter "Adjusting the clock" on page 10.
  8. Select the desired number of cups pushing the button "2-10 TASSEN" [2 - 10 cups] until the desired number of cups lights up. You may choose between 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 cups. Please make sure to select exactly the number of cups that have been poured in. If you poured in water for two cups, you have to select two cups, if you poured in water for four cups, you have to select four cups and so on. This guarantees the optimum coffee taste. The coffee machine grinds exactly the right amount of coffee beans.

  9. Now you may select the strength of the coffee by pushing the button "STÄRKE" [strength]. You may choose between light, medium and strong.

  10. If you desire, you may also prepare coffee from coffee powder. For this purpose, please push the button "MÜHLE AUS" [MÜHLE OFF]. The backlight of the button flashes blue as long as the button is active. The coffee machine will not grind any coffee beans, until the button is pushed again. Fill the permanent filter with the desired amount of coffee powder, using 5 - 7g (approx. 1 coffee measuring spoon) of medium fine ground coffee per cup according to the desired strength. Too finely ground coffee may clog the pores of the filter and cause spilling.
  11. Press the flap slightly until it latches into place.
  12. Put the glass jug with the lid closed on the heating plate.
  13. Push the button "EIN/AUS" [ON/OFF] again and the appliance will start to prepare coffee.

  14. You may remove the jug at any time during the brewing process. The drip-stop avoids the coffee dripping from the filter. Put the jug back on the filter within 30 seconds in order to continue the brewing process and to avoid spilling from the filter.

  15. The appliance indicates that the coffee is ready by beeping five times. Switch the appliance off pushing the button "EIN/AUS" [ON/OFF]. The heating plate will continue working as long as the coffee machine is not switched off, in order to maintain the temperature of the coffee remaining in the jug. After two hours the appliance is automatically switched off.
  16. After having poured out all the coffee, do not leave the empty coffee jug on the hot heating plate.
  17. Remove the permanent filter and empty the coffee grounds.

ADJUSTING THE CLOCK

  1. When the coffee machine is connected to the mains, the display indicates 12:00.
  2. Push the buttons "STD" and "MIN" until the current time is indicated.
  3. Now you see the current time and may begin to prepare coffee.

  4. The time is not saved if a mains failure of more than 120 seconds occurs. In case the appliance has been disconnected from the mains you will have to adjust the time again.
