Frequently Asked Questions - PL51 Humantechnik

How to connect the telephone amplifier PL51?
Unplug the handset cord from the telephone and insert it into the socket on the narrow side of the PL51. Then connect the supplied connection cable between the PL51 and the telephone base. Plug the telephone back into the telephone socket.
Why doesn't the green LED light up when I pick up?
Check that all plugs are correctly connected (handset cord, connection cable and telephone socket). Disconnect and reconnect the connectors to eliminate a faulty contact.
How to adjust the volume and tone?
Use the volume control knob to adjust the sound level. The bass/treble knob changes the sound. The additional amplification button doubles the volume as long as it is pressed.
What to do if the sound is weak?
Replace the batteries with new ones (LR06). Make sure the batteries are making good contact and that the polarity is correct.
How to replace the batteries?
Press the tab of the battery compartment at the back of the unit to open it. Remove the used batteries and insert two new LR06 batteries, observing the polarity. Close the cover until it clicks.
Can I use earphones with the PL51?
Yes, plug an earphone (3.5 mm jack) into the jack socket provided. The handset loudspeaker will then be disabled to avoid acoustic feedback.
How to adapt the PL51 to a telephone with a different socket?
Open the battery compartment, remove the batteries, then remove the coding plate. Turn it over and replace it in another position (A, B, C or D). Position A is suitable for most telephones.
Does the device turn off automatically?
Yes, the PL51 automatically turns off 30 seconds after hanging up the handset. The green LED then goes out.
What to do in case of malfunction?
First check the connections and batteries. If the problem persists, contact your dealer or the manufacturer (Humantechnik) for a warranty repair. Include the warranty coupon or invoice.
How to clean the telephone amplifier?
Use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never use alcohol, thinner or other organic solvents. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, moisture and shocks.

Adjustment of the PL-51 - changing of the wire assignment

As some telephones have different wire assignments the function of the PL-51 with those telephones is not warranted. However the PL-51 can be adjusted to different wire assignments. To do this the code board inside the battery compartment has to be repluged.

There are 4 possible positions for the code board: A, B, C and D.

Position A:

works with most telephones (delivery status of the PL-51)

Position B, C and D:

further possible wire assignments

Adjusting different wire assignments:

  1. Unplug the telephone cord from the telephone connection socket
  2. Open the cover of the battery compartment
  3. Take out both batteries
  4. Pull the code board out of the slot with caution and turn it.
  5. Insert the code board back into the slot.
  6. Insert the batteries (mind the polarity).
  7. Close the battery compartment and plug the telephone cord back into the telephone connection soc+ket.

Should your telephone amplifier still not work, repeat the above steps.
