Frequently Asked Questions - TA2 Humantechnik

How do I connect the TA2 amplifier to my telephone?
Disconnect the telephone plug from the base. Remove the handset cord from the base and insert its RJ11 plug into the socket on the back of the TA2. Then connect the supplied TA2 connecting cord to the base socket and to the wall telephone socket.
The amplifier does not turn on. What should I do?
Check that the power adapter is plugged in and that the plug is fully inserted into the TA2 power socket. If using batteries, open the battery compartment and ensure they are properly inserted and not discharged. The green indicator light should illuminate when the handset is lifted.
How do I adjust the volume and tone?
Use the volume potentiometer located on top of the device to adjust the sound intensity. The higher the number, the louder the sound. The tone control button allows you to modify the sound quality according to your preferences.
Can I use the TA2 with rechargeable batteries?
Yes, you can use rechargeable batteries of the same size AA LR6. Make sure to use new or fully charged batteries. The TA2 also works on mains power with the supplied adapter.
What can I plug into the 3.5mm jack socket?
You can connect a small earphone (e.g., from a portable player), an induction loop for hearing aids (T/MT position), or monaural/binaural cords for behind-the-ear devices. When an accessory is connected, the handset sound is muted to avoid whistling.
The TA2 emits whistling sounds. How can I fix it?
Reduce the volume using the potentiometer. Make sure the handset is not too close to the TA2. If the problem persists, replace the batteries with new ones.
How do I adapt the TA2 if there is no dial tone?
Some telephones have different wiring. Open the battery compartment and use a small screwdriver to change the position of the internal switches. The instructions describe two variants: standard setting and variant 2. Make sure the switches are at the end stop.
Where can I find accessories like the induction loop?
The special accessories (induction loop A-4921-0, monaural cord A-4940-0, binaural cord A-4950-0) are available from your specialized dealer or directly from the manufacturer Humantechnik.
How do I clean the TA2 amplifier?
Use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never use alcohol, thinner, or organic solvents. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, heat, humidity, and vibrations.
What to do in case of a malfunction under warranty?
Contact your dealer or the manufacturer. The warranty covers free repair if the device is returned in its original packaging with the duly completed warranty card and serial number. It does not apply in case of misuse or unauthorized repair.

Congratulations on purchasing your telephone amplifier TA-2. We hope it will provide you with many years of service. You have chosen a modern and reliable system.

Please read the operating instructions through carefully to be able to start the unit correctly and to familiarise yourself with all of the systems features.

Standard components

Please check if all following components are included:

  • TA-2
  • 6 V power supply unit
  • Operating instructions
  • Warranty card

If any parts are missing please immediately contact your dealer or the manufacturer directly.

Operation

Before using the telephone amplifier please follow these instruction.

1. Telephone receiver cord

First take the wallplug out of the socket for your telephone connection. Remove the receiver cord from its cable guide on the underside of your telephone. To do this, push the locking clip towards the body of the plug at the same time as pulling the plug out of the socket using the cord. Take this plug on the end of the telephone receiver cord and push it into the socket on the back of the telephone amplifier so the plug clips into place. The socket is identified with a telephone receiver signal.

2. Connecting cable

Take the plug on the end of the connecting cable for the hearing amplifier and push it into the receiver socket on the base of the telephone. Position the cable in the empty cable guide.

Finally reconnect the wallplug into the wall socket for your telephone connection.

Your telephone is now ready to operate again.

Switching on

The hearing amplifier automatically switches itself on when you pick up the handset of the telephone.

The green light on top of the unit lights up to indicate this.

Setting the volume/tone

You can use the tumbler dial on top of the hearing amplifier to adjust the volume of the signal to a comfortable level. Turning the dial towards the larger numbers on the scale increases the volume, and vice versa. You will be able to feel the stop at either end of the dial's travel. Please do not try to force the dial past these points. In addition, you can adjust the tone using the tone control.

Switching off

The hearing amplifier switches itself off automatically about 60 seconds after you put the handset back on the hook. The green light goes off again.

Possible connections

The TA-2 is equipped with a 3.5 mm stereo jack socket to which the following accessories can be connected:

  • Mini-headphones, e.g. Walkman headphones
  • Hearing aid wearers can connect a neckloop to the jack socket.

The hearing aid must be set to »T« or »MT« in this case. It is easy to set the volume using the volume control on the TA-2.

- Hearing aids with a direct audio input allow a direct link to be established between the telephone and the hearing aid. Both a monaural cable (for wearers of a hearing aid in one ear) and a binaural cable (for wearers of hearing aids in both ears) are available for this.

Please note that the loudspeaker in the telephone handset is switched off when a unit is connected to the jack socket (to avoid feedback).

Special accessories

• Audio loop order no. A-4921-0
• Monaural cable order no. A-4940-0
• Binaural cable order no. A-4950-0

The TA-2 can also be connected to the following systems using the jack socket:

• Infrared transmission systems
• Radio transmission systems
- Induction loop transmission systems

Power supply for the hearing amplifier

Mains operation

Only use the mains adapter supplied. Take the plug on the end of the mains adapter cable and insert it into the socket on the back of the telephone amplifier. This socket is identified by a mains adapter symbol. Then plug the mains adapter into a standard 230 V domestic outlet.

If mains power is not available the unit will not function without batteries.

Battery operation

Open the battery compartment by pushing the battery compartment cover on the underside of the hearing amplifier out to the side. Insert 4 batteries as indicated by the markings in the battery compartment. Then slide the cover back into its original position. Always use 4 new batteries (type AA, LR6) or equivalent rechargeable batteries.

What you can do in case of problems

Not every problem means there is a serious fault in your telephone amplifier. Please check the following points before contacting your supplier.

No dial tone when telephone hand-set off the hook

  • Check all the plugs to see whether they are connected properly.
  • Handset cord on telephone amplifier.
  • Connection cord on unit/telephone socket.
  • If necessary, disconnect and then reconnect all the plugs (faulty contact).

Telephone connection is OK, but telephone amplifier does not function

  • Check the mains adapter connection.
  • Open the battery compartment and check if the batteries are inserted correctly.
  • If necessary, fit new batteries or equivalent, charged rechargeable batteries.

Telephone amplifier emits loud peeping sounds

- Reduce the volume slightly, and make sure that the telephone handset is not directly adjacent to the hearing amplifier.

- If necessary, fit new batteries or equivalent, charged rechargeable batteries.

Procedure for adapting the TA-2

Due to the different cable connection of some telephones (e.g. T-Easy P210), the correct function of the TA-2 cannot be guaranteed with these telephones. However, the TA-2 can be adapted to different cable connections by altering the DIP switch settings in the battery compartment of the TA-2.

There are basically two different settings:

Standard setting (initial state of TA-2) and setting for type 2.
