Frequently Asked Questions - PG 8090 MIELE

How to install the PG 8090 softener?
Installation must be carried out by a professional certified by Miele. The unit is connected between the water supply line and the professional dishwasher. Respect the minimum pressure of 200 kPa and use a connection conforming to DIN EN 1717.
What type of salt to use?
Use only regeneration salt for water softeners, in tablets or coarse grains of 8 to 15 mm. Never use table salt as its additives can clog the unit.
How to fill the salt tank?
Remove the cover, pour salt through the tank opening (capacity 10 kg). Ensure that salt does not enter the conduit of the salt solenoid valve. Close the cover properly.
What is the minimum required water pressure?
The minimum pressure is 200 kPa (2.0 bar) in combination with a dishwasher without internal softener, and 600 kPa (6.0 bar) with an integrated softener. The maximum static pressure is 600 kPa.
Can the softener be connected to hot water?
Yes, but the water temperature must not exceed 50 °C. The allowable temperature range is 4 °C to 65 °C.
Is the softened water drinkable?
No, water treated by the PG 8090 softener is not drinkable. It is intended only for supplying the dishwasher.
How to adjust the regeneration intervals?
The regeneration intervals are set via the dial of the control device, under the cover. The setting must be adapted to the water hardness and consumption. Contact Miele customer service for initial configuration.
What to do if the softener is not working properly?
Disconnect the unit immediately and contact Miele customer service or a qualified technician. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.
How to maintain the softener?
Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. Never use a water jet or pressure washer. Regularly check the salt level and cleanliness of the resin cartridge.
What are the dimensions of the softener?
The dimensions are: height 572 mm, width 230 mm, depth 400 mm.

How the Monoblock water softening system works

The PG 8090 Monoblock water softener is installed between the mains water supply and a commercial dishwasher to soften a hard water supply.

Softening is carried out by means of an exchange of ions. The resin in the resin cartridge:

  • combines with the deposit forming ions of the water
  • causing salt ions to be released into the water.

The resin needs to reactivated once these salt ions have been used up.

How often reactivation takes place will depend on water usage and the water hardness level. The reactivation interval is set via the weekly disc in the control unit. Reactivation is carried out automatically.

Minimum flow pressure

The PG 8090 Monoblock water softener needs a minimum flow pressure of approx. (200 kPa) 2.0 bar when used in conjunction with a fresh water system dishwasher without a built-in water softener.

The PG 8090 Monoblock water softener needs a minimum flow pressure of approx. (200 kPa) 2.0 bar when used in conjunction with a tank system dishwasher without a built-in water softener.

Water pressure must not drop below 200 kPa (2.0 bar) even when at full flow.

Disposing of the packing materials

The packaging is designed to protect the appliance during transportation. The packaging materials used are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags, etc are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.

Older children may only use this appliance if its operation has been clearly explained to them and they are able to use it safely, recognising the dangers of misuse. They must be aware of the potential dangers caused by incorrect operation.

Before use

Find out the mains water hardness level in your area.

The Miele authorised service technician will require this information in order to set the correct reactivation interval for the water hardness level.

Please make a note of the water hardness level here.

Hardness level:

The service engineer will connect the Monoblock water softener to the water supply, fill the resin cartidges with water and start the system. The built-in salt valve limits the amount of water going into and out of the unit by means of a float switch to ensure there is sufficient salt available for reactivation.

Only use reactivation salt that is suitable for water softeners.

It is important to use good quality reactivation salt. Only use salt tablets or coarse grained reactivation salt (8 - 15 mm grain).

Never use cooking salt, as it contains particles which do not dissolve in water. These particles can cause a blockage in the Monoblock water softener.

Filling the salt container

Remove the lid.

MIELE PG 8090 - Filling the salt container - 1

  • Fill the salt container with salt tablets or coarse grained reactivation salt via the salt filler inlet.

Capacity: 10 kg
First fill: 10 kg

Do not let any salt get into the salt valve tube. The valve is protected by a cover. Make sure that this is closed.

Close the lid.

To keep evaporation to a minimum make sure that the lid is always replaced securely in position.

The Monoblock water softener is now ready for operation and will deliver softened water.

Please contact the Miele Service Department if you have any concerns.
