POWER SUPPLY – Before connecting the kettle to the power mains, check whether the voltage specified on the appliance corre- sponds to the mains voltage in your household. If not, please get in touch with your dealer and do not use the kettle. – Ensure all switches are in the “OFF” position before removing the power cord. Then pull the plug out of the power socket. LOCATION – Never place the appliance near or on a gas oven, an elec- tric hotplate or in a hot oven or microwave oven. – Always use the kettle on a stable, level surface. – This kettle is only intended for indoor, household use. Do not use the kettle outdoors. – Never connect this appliance to an electrical outlet in a bathroom, near a kitchen sink or near any other damp area or wet surface. USE – Do not immerse the cord, the plug or the kettle in water or other liquids, as this could lead to fire, electric shocks or bodily injuries. – Always keep the exterior of the water kettle, the electrical connections and the base unit clean and dry. – Do not touch any hot surfaces. Only hold the kettle by its handle. – Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet when the kettle is not in use and before cleaning. Allow the kettle to cool before cleaning it. – Do not use any accessories not recommended by the manufacturer. This can lead to fire, electric shocks or bodily injuries. – The water kettle may only be used with the supplied base unit3
– Never fill the kettle with water when it is positioned on the base unit. – Never fill the kettle above the “MAX” mark visible inter- nally and externally on the water level gauge. – Do not allow the power cord to hang over the edge of a table or work surface, and ensure the power cord does not come into contact with hot surfaces. – Do not use appliance for other than intended use. – Scalding may occur if the lis is removd during the bre- wing cycles. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected. – Always ensure that you pour out boiling water slowly and carefully, taking care not to tilt the spout too rapidly. – To prevent scalding, avoid coming into contact with the steam escaping from the opening in the hinged lid when the water is being boiled or just after the kettle has swit- ched off. Be careful when opening the lid, if the kettle is still hot and you wish to refill it with water. Boiling water can cause burns. – Do not forcefully locate the switch in the ON position, or make any authorised changes to the switch in order to make it stay in the ON position. This could lead to steam escaping from around the lid, damaging the automatic switch-off mechanism and possibly causing bodily injury. WARNING Ensure that the kettle is switched off before removing it from the base unit. – Don’t use the kettle for any use other than to boil water. – Move the appliance with extreme care when it contains hot water. Do not place the base unit of the kettle on a metal tray or on any other metal surface, while it is still connected to a power outlet. – Do not operate the appliance if the appliance body, the base unit, the power cord or the plug is damaged. Damage to the appliance may only be repaired by the manufacturer, or an authorised dealer, in order to exclude danger. – Never attempt to connect other appliances to the cordless base unit and never tamper with the connector in any way (special interlocked shutters are designed to prevent access to the live pins until the kettle is positioned on the base unit).IBIS

AUTOMATIC ON/OFF SWITCH
Your kettle has an automatic ON/OFF switch and switches off automatically as soon as the water boils. After the water has boiled, wait for approx. one minute before attempting to heat the water again. Do not attempt to hold the ON/OFF switch in the “ON” position, or to impede its function.
) can also be used to switch off the kettle before the water boils. SAFETY CUT-OFF The kettle is protected against damage resulting from use with an insufficient volume of water. A safety cut-off will automatically disconnect the power supply if the heating element overheats. Should the kettle ever boil dry during operation, you must leave it to cool for 10 minutes before re-filling it with cold water. The safety cut-off will reset automatically once it has cooled.
BEFORE USING THE KETTLE
Clean the kettle before using it for the first time by filling it completely (to the MAX mark) with water, boiling the water, and then discarding the water.
– Remove the appliance body from the base unit (
) and fill with water. Do not fill the kettle with less than 0.25l /8oz and not more than 1.7l / 57oz (above the MAX mark), to prevent the kettle from boiling dry or boiling water escaping from the spout of the closed lid (
Ensure that the kettle body is seated correctly on the con- tact unit on the base unit (
– Connect the mains plug to the power supply and press down the ON/OFF switch (
Note: Ensure that the ON/OFF switch is able to move freely. SWITCHING OFF – Your kettle has an automatic ON/OFF switch and will switch itself off automatically as soon as the water boils. – You can switch off the kettle at any time by press up the ON/OFF switch (
). If the kettle body is lifted from the base unit, it will switch off automatically. Note: The kettle cannot be switched off by hand if the switch is not free to move, or if the ON/OFF switch is pressed down.
– To remove the kettle from the base unit (
), hold it by its handle. Ensure that the kettle body remains level while lifting it from the base unit (
– Pour the water from the spout with the lid (
) closed. Note: Please take care when pouring out water as boiling water can cause scalds.
SWITCHING THE KETTLE ON AGAIN
– If the kettle was switched off by hand, it can be switched on again at any time. – You may switch the kettle on again as soon as the built-in thermal safety cut-off switch has had sufficient time to cool.
The appliance is supplied with a short power cord in order to minimise the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
You may use a detachable extension cord if care is exer- cised in its use. Extension cords can be found in most hardware stores. C A long extension cord may only be used if, (1) the marked electrical rating of the extension cord is at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, (2) the cord is a grounded, 3-wire type cord, and (3) the longer cord is arranged so that it doesn’t drape over the table or counter edge, children are unable to pull on the cord and it can not be tripped over.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
SCALE FILTER Scale, or calcium, is a natural substance that forms when hard water is boiled. The filter serves to retain the calcium in the water kettle.
CLEANING AND REMOVAL OF THE FILTER
It is important to clean the filter regularly. The filter clips into the lid and can be removed by pulling it downwards from the lid. It cam be cleaned by gentle brushing with a soft brush under running water. Remove scale using either a proprietary de-scaling product suitable for plastic kettles (following the instructions care- fully), or citrid acid. We recommend using citric acid as follows: Boil 1 litre of water, then unplug the kettle and stand it in an empty sink or bowl. Add 50gm of citric acid crystals gradually, then leave the kettle to stand. As soon as the effervescence subsides, empty the kettle and rinse it thoroughly with cold water. Wipe the outside of the kettle thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove all traces of citric acid which may damage the finish. Do not use a more concentrated solution. Ensure that the electrical connections are completely dry before using the kettle. Citric acid crystals are available at most chemists. Failure to de-scale may invalidate the guarantee.IBIS
Never use chemicals, steel wool or abrasive agents to clean the exterior of the kettle. The appliance must not be immersed in water for cleaning. STORAGE – Excessive cord length can be stored on the cord retainer in the base unit (
Note: Ensure that the mains power supply is switched off when you are not using the kettle. SERVICE – All BODUM
