Frequently Asked Questions - STRIPE LUX ELICA

What is the minimum distance between the hood and the hob?
The minimum distance is 45 cm for an electric hob and 50 cm for a gas or mixed hob. Follow the hob manufacturer's instructions if they indicate a greater distance.
How to install the hood in recirculation mode?
For recirculation mode, you must install an active carbon filter (sold separately) and do not connect an external evacuation duct. The air is filtered and then returned to the room through the upper grille.
How to clean the grease filter?
The metallic grease filter should be cleaned once a month. You can wash it by hand with a non-aggressive detergent or in the dishwasher at low temperature and short cycle. Dishwashing may discolor the filter but does not affect its performance.
When should I replace the carbon filter?
The active carbon filter must be replaced at most every 4 months, or when the saturation indicator lights up. It cannot be cleaned or regenerated.
How to reset the filter saturation indicator?
With the hood off, press the OFF key (or T2 depending on model) for more than 2 seconds until all indicator lights flash briefly. If both indicators are active, repeat the operation.
What to do if the hood does not work properly?
Disconnect the hood for 5 seconds then reconnect it. If the problem persists, contact after-sales service. Also check that the power cord is properly connected.
How to replace the hood lamps?
Disconnect the hood, wait for the lamps to cool down, then use a small flat-head screwdriver to unclip the cover. Replace with a halogen lamp 12 V - 20 W max type G4. Avoid touching the lamp with bare hands.
Can I use the hood without filter?
No, never without filter. Using the hood without a properly mounted grille or filter can damage the appliance and poses a fire risk.
How to activate the carbon filter saturation alarm?
On touch models, the alarm is normally deactivated. To activate it, turn off the hood, press the OFF key for 3 seconds, then simultaneously press keys 1 and 2 for 3 seconds. The indicator lights confirm activation.
What type of detergent to use for cleaning the hood?
Use a damp cloth with a neutral liquid detergent. Never use abrasive products or alcohol, as they may damage the surface.

Use

The hood is conceived for the suction of cooking fumes and steam and is destined only for domestic use.

The hood is designed to be used either for exhausting or filter version.

ELICA STRIPE LUX - Use - 1

Ducting version

In this case the fumes are conveyed outside of the building by means of a special pipe connected with the connection ring located on top of the hood.

Attention! The exhausting pipe is not supplied and must be purchased apart.

Diameter of the exhausting pipe must be equal to that of the connection ring.

In the horizontal runs the exhausting pipe must be slightly slanted (about 10°) and directed upwards to vent the air easily from the room to the outside.

Attention! If the hood is supplied with active charcoal filter, then it must be removed.

Connect the hood and discharge holes on the walls with a diameter equivalent to the air outlet (connection flange).

Using the tubes and discharge holes on walls with smaller dimensions will cause a diminution of the suction performance and a drastic increase in noise.

Any responsibility in the matter is therefore declined.

Use a duct of the minimum indispensable length. Use a duct with as few elbows as possible (maximum elbow angle: 90°). Avoid drastic changes in the duct cross-section. Use a duct as smooth as possible inside. The duct must be made of certified material.

ELICA STRIPE LUX - Ducting version - 1

Filter version

One active charcoal filter is needed for this and can be obtained from your usual retailer.

The filter removes the grease and smells from the extracted air before sending it back into the room through the upper outlet grid.

Installation

The minimum distance between the supporting surface for the cooking equipment on the hob and the lowest part of the range hood must be not less than 45 cm from electric cookers and 50 cm from gas or mixed cookers.

If the instructions for installation for the gas hob specify a greater distance, this must be adhered to.

ELICA STRIPE LUX - Installation - 1

Electrical connection

The mains power supply must correspond to the rating indicated on the plate situated inside the hood. If provided with a plug, connect the hood to a socket in compliance with current regulations and positioned in an accessible area, after installation. If it is not fitted with a plug (direct mains connection)

or if the plug is not located in an accessible area, after installation, apply a double pole switch in accordance with standards which assures the complete disconnection of the mains under conditions relating to over-current category III, in accordance with installation instructions.

Warning! Before re-connecting the hood circuit to the mains supply and checking the efficient function, always check that the mains cable is correctly assembled.

The hood is provided with a special power cable; if the cable is damaged, request a new one from Technical Service.

Mounting

Before beginning installation:

  • Check that the product purchased is of a suitable size for the chosen installation area.
  • Remove the charcoal (*) filter(s) if supplied (see also the relevant paragraph). These are to be mounted only if you want to use the hood in the filtering version.
  • Check (for transport reasons) that there is no other supplied material inside the hood (e.g., packets with screws, guarantees, etc.), and if there is, remove it and keep it.
  • If possible, disconnect and move freestanding or slide-in ranges from the cabinet opening to provide easier access to the rear wall/ceiling. Otherwise, put a thick, protective covering over the countertop, cooktop, or range to protect from damage and debris. Select a flat surface for assembling the unit. Cover that surface with a protective covering and place all canopy hood parts and hardware on it.
  • In addition, check whether near the installation area of the hood (in the area accessible also with the hood mounted) an electric socket is available and it is possible to connect a fumes discharge device to the outside (only suction version).
  • Carry out all the masonry work necessary (e.g., installation of an electric socket and/or a hole for the passage of the discharge tube).

Expansion wall plugs are provided to secure the hood to most types of walls/ceilings. However, a qualified technician must verify the suitability of the materials in accordance with the type of wall/ceiling. The wall/ceiling must be strong enough to take the weight of the hood. Do not tile, grout, or silicone this appliance to the wall. Surface mounting only.

Operation

Use the high suction speed in cases of concentrated kitchen vapors. It is recommended that the cooker hood suction is switched on for 5 minutes prior to cooking and left in operation during cooking and for another 15 minutes approximately after terminating cooking.

Extraction

The vapors are discharged outside through an exhaust duct connected to the connecting flange.

In this case, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility.

The pipe must be the required length. Use a pipe with the shortest possible length (maximum length for the elbow: 90°). Do not sharply bend the pipe! Use a pipe with the shortest possible outer coating. The material from which the pipes are made must comply with the standards in force.

ELICA STRIPE LUX - Extraction - 1

Filter version

The aspirator draws air and must be installed before being put into operation in the room. To use the aspirator in this operating mode, a filter system must be installed at the base of the filter active carbon.

Installation

The minimum distance between the surface on which the cooking vessels are placed and the lower part of the kitchen aspirator must be no less than 45 cm in the case of an electric hob and no less than 50 cm in the case of a gas or combined hob.

If the instructions for the gas hob specify a greater distance, this must be taken into account.

ELICA STRIPE LUX - Installation - 1

Electrical connection

The voltage in the electrical network must correspond to the voltage indicated on the plate with the data for the aspirator, placed on its inner side. If the aspirator is connected with a plug to a socket, the socket must be in accordance with the standards in force and in an easily accessible place for disconnection of the motor. If it is not connected with a plug (direct connection to the network), or if the socket is not in an easily accessible place for disconnection of the motor, use a bipolar switch with a contact opening of at least 3 mm, in accordance with the installation rules.

Warning! Before connecting the aspirator to the network and checking that it functions correctly, check that the cable is installed as it should be.

  • Make sure that during transport the internal parts of the aspirator have not been damaged by objects such as screws, packaging cardboard, etc.; if you find such, remove them and keep them. If possible, disassemble and move the furniture that is in the immediate vicinity of the place where you intend to install the aspirator. In this way, you will have better access to the ceiling or wall where it will be installed. Otherwise, be careful not to damage the furniture and all other objects during installation. Prepare a flat surface and cover it with a protective cloth, on which to place the aspirator and the corresponding accessories.
  • Check the clearance to the place where you have measured that you will mount the aspirator. There must be enough space so that it can be connected to the duct (only for the aspirator version).
  • Perform all necessary operations, for example: mounting the contact or adjusting the outlet duct. The aspirator is equipped with a device for fixing the outlet part to the walls and ceiling.

For all this, we recommend that you contact a qualified technician to ensure that the supplied

accessories are suitable for the purpose. The wall, ceiling, and floor must be sufficiently stable to withstand the load.

In the state with the extractor hood switched on (ON), press the T2 button for more than 2 seconds; all LEDs will turn on for a short time.

Note: if it is necessary to repeat both operations in the case of two active signals (grease filter and activated carbon filter).

Maintenance

Warning! Before performing any operation for cleaning or technical maintenance, disconnect the extractor hood from the electrical network, disconnect the hood or the main switch of the room.

Cleaning

The hood must be subjected to regular cleaning both inside and outside (at least with the same frequency as the maintenance of the grease filters). For cleaning, use a special cloth, slightly dampened with neutral liquid detergent. Do not use products containing abrasive materials.

DO NOT USE ALCOHOL!

Warning: failure to follow the cleaning rules of the appliance and the replacement of filters may lead to the risk of fire. Therefore, it is recommended to follow the given instructions.

The manufacturer declines all responsibility for possible damage to the motor or fires caused by improper repair or failure to follow the described precautions.

Before using the motor:

  • The hood size is selected according to the chosen installation location. Remove the protective film from the hood (see also the corresponding section). The filter is reinstalled if you want to use the hood in recirculation mode.
  • Before installing the hood, make sure that the inside of the hood is not contaminated with materials placed there during transportation (e.g., packaging with screws, warranty card, etc.). If so, remove and keep them. If possible, remove and store furniture that is under the hood or around the installation area to ensure easier access to the wall/ceiling where the hood will be attached. If this is not possible, protect the furniture and other elements during installation. Choose a flat surface, cover it with protective material, and place the hood and installation parts on it. Also check that the installation area of the hood (in the zone, as well as after hood installation) contains the electrical outlet and the exhaust pipe (only in exhaust mode). Perform all necessary work (e.g., installation of the electrical outlet and/or making the hole for the exhaust pipe).

The kit includes screws for mounting, designed for most wall/ceiling types. However, it is necessary to contact a qualified technician to check the suitability of the materials depending on the wall or ceiling type. The wall/ceiling must be strong enough to support the weight of the hood.

Operation

Use the intensive function in case of very high concentration of cooking fumes. We recommend turning it on 5 minutes before starting to cook and leaving it on for 15 minutes after finishing cooking.
