Frequently Asked Questions - DLM382CT2 - DLM382Z MAKITA

How to start the mower?
Press the lock button, then pull the switch handle towards you. Hold the handle while mowing. Release it to stop the motor.
How to adjust the cutting height?
Fix the wheels in the appropriate holes. All wheels must be at the same height. Available heights: 20 mm (position 1), 40 mm (position 2), and 55 mm (position 3).
What to do if the grass bag does not fill?
Check the cutting height (grass too high), make sure the grass is dry, clean the bag grid and the ejection chute. If the problem persists, have the blade sharpened or replaced by an authorized center.
When and how to sharpen the blade?
Sharpen the blade frequently with a grinding wheel. Check the balance by inserting a round rod into the center hole: if the blade stays horizontal, it is balanced. Otherwise, file the heavy end. The blade screw tightening torque must be 20 to 25 Nm.
How to replace the blade?
Unplug the mower. Remove the blade screw (3) then the blade (2). Check the condition of the fan (1). When reassembling, orient the cutting edges in the direction of rotation. Use only a genuine Makita blade (ref. 263001422 for ELM3311 or 263001414 for ELM3711).
The motor does not start, what to check?
Check the power cord and extension cable. Start in an area where the grass is short. Clean the ejection chute so the blade rotates freely. Adjust the cutting height if necessary.
What safety precautions are essential?
Wear closed shoes and long trousers. Inspect the area to remove any objects that could be thrown. Never mow when people or animals are nearby. Stop the motor and unplug before any maintenance. Use a residual current device (RCD) ≤ 30 mA.
How to empty and clean the grass bag?
Lift the rear cover, remove the bag. Empty it and clean the vents with a brush. The level indicator should be visible: if the bag is full, the indicator decreases. Clean the indicator opening if it is dirty.
What type of extension cord to use?
Use an outdoor extension cord with a cross-section of at least 1.0 mm². Check its condition before each use. Do not use it if damaged. Keep it away from the blade.
How to maintain the mower after use?
Unplug the mower. Clean it with a cloth or brush – do not spray water. Check the blade and bolts. Store it in a dry place. For any problem, contact a Makita authorized service center.

after the motor is switched off.

9. BLADE

The blade is made of pressed steel. It will be necessary to reshape it frequently (with a grind wheel).

Ensure that it is always balanced (an unbalanced blade will cause dangerous vibrations). To check for balance, insert a round rod through the central hole and support the blade horizontally. (Fig. 20) A balance blade will remain horizontal. If the blade is not balanced the heavy end will rotate downwards. Reshape the heavy end until the blade is currently balanced. (Fig. 21) To remove the blade (2), unscrew the blade screw (3). (Fig. 22, Fig. 23, Fig. 24)

Check the conditions of the fan (1), and replace any parts, which are damaged. (Fig. 22)

When reassembling, make sure that the cutting edges face in the direction of the motor rotation. The blade screw (3) must be tightened to torque 20-25 Nm.
