Frequently Asked Questions - ELECTROLISS BABYLISS

How to charge the Electroliss?
Insert the transformer plug into the device, check that the voltage matches, then plug into mains. A double beep indicates connection. The battery flashes during charging and stops after about 12 hours.
How long does a hair removal session last?
Duration varies depending on the tool used: from 1 to 4 minutes with patches, and from 20 to 60 seconds with the precision stylus. The chosen intensity affects duration but not effectiveness.
What to do if the patches no longer stick properly?
Rehydrate the patches by spreading a few drops of water with your fingertips. Let the gel absorb the moisture to regain its stickiness, then place the patch back on the protective film or reuse immediately.
Can I use the Electroliss on my face?
Yes, the device is suitable for the face, especially the upper lip. Use the specific patches for the face or the stylus with the appropriate head (wide for the upper lip, fine for isolated hairs). Avoid the eye area.
Is it painful?
Normally, you barely feel a slight tingling. If it's painful, reduce the intensity or slightly move the contact patch away from the treatment patches. Always start at minimum intensity.
How often should I use the device?
It is recommended to treat areas 1 to 2 times per week. First results appear after a few weeks of regular use.
Can I use the device on a mole or wart?
No, never place patches or stylus on moles, warts, open wounds, burns, irritations or varicose veins. Treat only on healthy skin.
How to clean the device and accessories?
Clean the device with a damp cloth. The stylus can be cleaned with mild detergent and its metal tip disinfected with alcohol. Patches are rehydrated with water and stored on their protective film.
What technology does the Electroliss use?
The device uses electrolysis: a barely perceptible current is conveyed to the base of the hair follicle, causing a chemical reaction that neutralizes the dermal papilla. This sustainably slows hair regrowth.
Are there any contraindications to using the Electroliss?
Yes, it is not recommended without medical advice in case of electronic implants (pacemaker) or metal implants, heart problems, pregnancy, cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, or on an area with reduced sensitivity. Also avoid areas near the heart, eyes and genitals.

USER MANUAL ELECTROLISS BABYLISS

For nearly 30 years, BaByliss has put itself at the forefront of technology to respond to the increasingly demanding desires of women for hair removal systems. Thanks to the electrolysis hair removal technique, BaByliss ELECTROLISS will from now on let you remove excess hair permanently and painlessly.

This technique directs a barely perceptible electrical current to the base of the hair follicle. A chemical reaction neutralizes the dermal papilla that feeds the hair and regrowth is slowed dramatically. This technique therefore not only deals with the visible hair, it progressively destroys the root for long-term hair removal.

Some information on body hair (see figure 1 and 2):

  • Hair grows from a sac called a follicle. The density of the follicles varies depending on the area it is in. Thus, the density ranges from 60 follicles per square centimetre on the legs to 500 follicles per centimetre on the upper lip.
  • Hair grows in cycles. During the growth phase (or anagen phase), hair is fed by the dermal papilla. Hair then enters a transitional phase (or catagen phase), and finally enters a resting phase (or telegen phase). During the last phase, hair does not grow because it has separated from the dermal papilla. Hair falls out, the follicle reconnects with the dermal papilla and a new

cycle begins. It takes approximately three weeks for hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin and thus be visible. In other words, when hair begins to grow, it will not appear until three weeks later. Generally, if we remove hair one day and hair appears the following week, we think that it is the same hair regrowing, while it in fact comes from different follicles.

From the moment when the hair appears on the surface of the skin, the growth period continues for about 13 weeks more. For the treatment to be effective, the hair has to be treated during this anagen phase, when the dermal papillae are still active. It is the sine qua non to truly stop the hair growth process.
- Hair grows back in irregular cycles. In a single area, some hair is in its growth phase (anagen) and other in their rest phase (telegen). This is why the treatment must be carried out once or twice a week. The first results will be seen after a few weeks of treatment and will increase with prolonged and regular use of the product.

CHARGING THE APPLIANCE

Insert the transformer jack into the appliance. Ensure that the voltage of the appliance corresponds to the voltage of the outlet. Plug the power plug into an outlet. Two short bips signal that the appliance is connected. The battery icon on the screen will flash when the appliance is charging and stop flashing when it is fully charged. It takes about 12 hours for it to fully recharge. Recharge your appliance after each use.

N.B. If the appliance is on when you plug it to the mains, it will automatically turn itself off to recharge.

USE WHILE PLUGGED IN

It is also possible to use the appliance while it is plugged in. Insert the transformer jack into the appliance then plug into the outlet, ensuring that the

voltage of the appliance corresponds to the voltage of the power outlet.

TIPS FOR USE

PREPARING YOUR SKIN

  • Wash your skin thoroughly with an alcohol-free cleaning gel to remove all traces of lotion, oil, make-up and any impurities on the skin. The treatment should always be carried out on clean skin (cf. contraindications). For best results from the patches, make sure that the patches are clean to ensure continuous contact between them and your skin.

The treatment can be carried out before or after removing hair. It is not necessary to see hair to use electrolysis (the growth phase begins when the hair is still 4mm

under the skin).

USING THE PATCHES AND THE STYLET

  1. Select the patch shape appropriate for the area you wish to treat, or use the precision stylet. (see figure 3)
  2. Plug the main connector (lilaccoloured) into the appliance. Connect the two chosen patches (to the two lilac-coloured pins) and the contact patch (round, maroon coloured).

OR

  1. Plug the precision stylet connector into the appliance.
  2. Remove the two treatment patches selected from their protective film and place them on the area to be treated. Then place the round contact patch between the two treatment patches near the area being treated at an equal distance from each patch.
  3. Make sure that the current intensity variator (the little wheel) is set at minimum.
  4. Turn on your BaByliss ELECTROLISS by pressing the button for at least two seconds.
  5. Press the button once again for 1 to 2 seconds to start the cycle, release it and a short bip signals the beginning of the cycle. The hourglass icon starts to move and the part of the body being treated starts flashing. If you hear two BIPs, this indicates that the patches are incorrectly placed.
  6. Your appliance has an automatic recognition mechanism, in other words, it will recognise the patches or the stylet that you have plugged in, and the areas to be treated will appear on the icon of the

model on the LCD screen. Abide by the instructions since these programmes are designed for specific areas only.

  1. Set the current intensity variator going until you feel a slight tingling sensation. Adjust the strength of the current according to your sensitivity and the ELECTROLISS will adjust the duration of the treatment automatically. The hourglass icon displayed on the screen will tell you how long this is.

IMPORTANT: This treatment should not be painful. In most cases, you will feel almost nothing, or only a light tingling sensation. If this is not the case, even at a low intensity, move the contact patch slightly away from the treatment patches.

In any case, don't hesitate to use a low intensity for the first treatment. If you can tolerate it, slowly increase the intensity over the following uses.

  1. A three short bips signal the end of each cycle while the contact patch flashes on the screen. Remember to remove all patches, including the contact patch to treat another section of the area.
  2. Position the treatment patches and the contact patch on a new area and press the button to start a new session with your ELECTROLISS.
N.B. If the patches are removed during use, the session stops automatically.

The precision stylet can be fitted with 4 different heads; choose the head for the area you wish to treat: the wide head for the upper lip, the narrower head for isolated hair.

The conducting gel provided improves the precision stylet's

conductivity; apply generously to the selected head.

Hold the stylet as you would a pair of tweezers, making sure you place your fingers on its ergonomic handle. Hold the appliance in one hand to press the button, with the other hand hold the stylet and touch the hair or area to be treated with the head of the appliance, making sure you hold the metal head flat against your skin. (see figure 4)

QUESTIONS/ANSWERS

  • My appliance doesn't turn on?

Make sure the appliance is fully charged before use.

  • The screen goes out?

Make sure the appliance is fully charged before use.

  • My appliance goes out while starting the programme?

Avoid pressing the start button too long.

  • My appliance doesn't start the planned session?

Check that the patches are properly connected.

Check that the patches are adhering properly to your skin.

Check that the patches are moist enough.

  • The patches don't adhere to my skin properly anymore?

Moisten the patches with a few drops of water applied with the tips of your fingers. Let the patch absorb the moisture and the gel regain its adherence then put the patch back on the right side of its protective film, or use the patch immediately.

AFTER AN ELECTROLYSIS SESSION

After each electrolysis session, preferably after 12 hours, the hair can be removed using a traditional hair-removal method: tweezers, wax or electric hair removal. The hair should come out easily and without resistance.

After hair removal, you can apply an after hair-removal moisturising lotion to soothe your skin.

LENGTH OF THE TREATMENT

The treatment should be carried out once or twice a week. You will notice the first results after a few weeks of the treatment and these will increase with prolonged and regular use of the product.

The length of the treatment varies depending on the area being treated and the nature of the hair. Some thicker hair may require longer treatment. The hair should become increasingly thinner, come out more easily and finally disappear.

The session duration varies according to the selected intensity : from 1 to 4 minutes with patches, and from 20 to 60 seconds with precision stylet.

The intensity only has an impact on the session duration, but not on the efficiency.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONTRA-INDICATIONS

  • Only place the patches on areas referred to in this manual. Do not place near the heart, carotid artery, genital organs or eyes.

  • Do not use the patches or the stylet on open wounds, cuts, burns, warts, moles, sunburnt skin or varicose veins. Do not use if you suffer from a skin irritation or skin infection like

psoriasis or eczema.

  • Do not use perfume or deodorant on the treated area for 24 hours.
Seek medical advice before using this appliance without medical advice if:
  • you have an electronic implant (pacemaker, etc.) or metal implant, including an IUD;
  • you suffer from heart problems;
  • you are pregnant; or
  • you suffer from cancer, epilepsy, diabetes.
  • Do not use on areas where there is little sensitivity.

IMPORTANT: A slight redness on the skin in the area where the patches were placed and/or the stylet was used is normal and will disappear quickly. Stop treatment and consult a doctor if the redness persists.

While treating the upper lip, you may become aware of a metallic taste. This is normal and is a result of the electrical current. The after-taste disappears when the current is stopped.

MAINTENANCE OF THE APPLIANCE

The appliance does not require special maintenance. To clean, wipe with a damp cloth. Never allow water to get inside, do not leave the appliance in the sun or in extreme temperatures.

The patches

IMPORTANT: to remove the patches, carefully pull on the edges. Never pull by the wires. The patches have a limited life depending on the frequency of use (approximately 50 moving on the skin, on average), conditions of use, maintenance, and so on. When they no longer adhere properly, they must be replaced.

Use only BaByliss patches with this appliance. Consult your nearest BaByliss dealer.

To maintain the patches and extend their life:

Always replace the patches on the right side of the protective film after use and store in a cool, dry place.
- If the gel appears to be dry, moisten everything using a spray. One or two drops of water will be enough. Let the patch absorb the moisture and the gel become adherent again, then put the protective film back on the patch. If the gel is too moist, let the patch dry in the open, in cool air (in the refrigerator, for example) with the adhesive side facing up, until the gel becomes adherent again.

The stylet does not require any special maintenance. To clean it, use a cloth with a bit of soft detergent. Regularly disinfect the metal tip using alcohol.
