3. IMPORTANT ADVICE

  • Before using your appliance for the first time, read the following instructions carefully and keep them for future reference. Keep this manual throughout the entire working life of the appliance.
  • Make sure that the mains voltage in your home corresponds to that indicated on the appliance. Only connect the appliance to an AC power supply.
  • The electrical safety of your appliance is only guaranteed if it is connected to an efficient earth installation. If in doubt, contact a qualified professional.
  • The appliance is designed for domestic use only. Any other use is considered unsuitable and therefore dangerous.
  • In order to avoid electric shocks, do not submerge the connection base, cable or plug in water or any other liquid.

water can condense out of the outlet openings in the base of the kettle and run out over the edge of the power base. This is normal and is perfectly harmless.

  • The kettle can be switched back on again after being allowed to cool down for approx. 30 seconds.

4. BEFORE USING YOUR KETTLE

Before using your kettle for the first time or after a long period of disuse, fill to the maximum, boil and then pour the water away. Also make sure you follow the indications for use of the BRITA MAXTRA filter given in

section 5.2 of the manual.

5.2 Functioning with the BRITA filter unit

  • Submerge the BRITA MAXTRA filter in cold water and gently shake it to remove any air bubbles. Then place the BRITA MAXTRA filter (f) in its housing on the filter support (h), push it down until it firmly fits into the funnel, then position the lid (a) and close it. On placing the filter, check it is correctly positioned in its guide. Note: Do not leave the filter loose inside the kettle.

5. HOW TO USE YOUR AUTOMATIC

  • The kettle may be used filtering the water in the BRITA filter unit, or it may be used directly using tap water and the standard lid. However, we recommend you use the kettle with the BRITA MAXTRA filter to reduce chlorine, scale and impurities in the water, as this gives all the drinks you prepare an improved taste, appearance and aroma.

5.1 Standard functioning of the kettle

  • Place the appliance on a dry, flat, stable surface.
  • Open the kettle lid by pressing the button (2), and fill it with the desired amount of water. The water level must be between the “MAX 1.7L” and “0.7L” marks.
  • Press the START button (c) on the BRITA Memo indicator. Four bars will appear on the display (b), indicating the recommended filter use time, and a dot will flash in the bottom right corner. If there are no bars but a flashing arrow appears at the top of the display, the filter needs replacing. Replace the filter then press the START button again.
  • Place the filter unit (h) inside the kettle and fill it with cold water up to the MAX mark only. Pour away the first two fills, as these are only for rinsing the filter.
  • Switch on the kettle at the ON/OFF Switch. The heating control lamp lights up. The kettle switches off automatically when the water boils. The heating control lamp goes off. However, you can also switch the kettle off using the ON/ OFF switch at all times.
  • Remove the kettle from the power base and pour out the hot water. Note: As a result of its functioning, some
  • The filtered water will filter into the kettle.

8. DE-SCALING

  • Depending on the hardness of the water in your area, after repeated use limescale may form on the inside of the kettle and interfere with its correct working. If this limescale is not removed, it may permanently damage the appliance. Using the BRITA MAXTRA filter will however reduce scale problems in the kettle.
  • In spite of this, any scale in the kettle can be removed using any of the descalers available on the market. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
  • Before using the descaler, remove the BRITA MAXTRA filter and replace it when the kettle is totally clean.
  • Repeat the descaling process if there is a lot of scale inside the kettle.
  • Afterwards, rinse out the appliance several times with clean water and then boil again with clean water which should then be poured away.
  • Repeat the process several times before using the kettle again.
  • You may drink the cold filtered water or press the I/O button to boil it.
  • We recommend replacing the BRITA MAXTRA filter every 4 weeks.
  • Do not pour water directly onto the BRITA Memo indicator.
  • The approximate lifetime of the BRITA Memo indicator is 5 years. You may remove the used device with the aid of a screwdriver, pressing on the groove in the lid. Remember the indicator should not be removed for any other reason except to dispose of it. Remember that batteries are not domestic waste. Spent batteries should be placed in the special containers for this purpose.

6. SAFETY

9. INFORMATION FOR THE CORRECT

DISPOSAL OF ELECTRICAL AND

ELECTRONIC APPLIANCES If the kettle was accidentally started empty, the safety cut-out will automatically switch it off. In this case you should remove the kettle from the power base and allow it to cool down for a few minutes. At the end of its working life, the product must not be disposed of as urban waste. It must be taken to a special local authority differentiated waste collection centre or to a dealer providing this service. Disposing of a household appliance separately avoids possible negative consequences for the environment and health deriving from inappropriate disposal and enables the constituent materials to be recovered to obtain significant savings in energy and resources. To remind you that you must collaborate with a selective collection scheme, the symbol shown appears on the product warning you not to dispose of it in traditional refuse containers. For further information, contact your local authority or the shop where you bought the product.

7. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
