Frequently Asked Questions - FT 4919 AEG

How to set the clock on the AEG FT 4919 thermometer?
Press the ON/MEM button to turn on the device. Then hold this button for 5 seconds until the Set icon flashes. Use the SCAN button to change values (12/24h, hours, minutes, year, month, day) and the ON/MEM button to confirm and move to the next setting.
How to switch between °C and °F units?
Once the clock is set, the screen displays date, time and ambient temperature. Hold the SCAN button, then press and immediately release the ON/MEM button. After 3 seconds, the display switches from °C to °F (or vice versa).
How to measure ear temperature accurately?
Make sure the tip is clean. Turn on the device by pressing ON/MEM. Wait for the ➡ symbol to appear and two beeps. Gently pull the ear backward to straighten the ear canal. Place the tip in the ear canal, pointing towards the eardrum. Press and hold SCAN until a beep. Read the displayed temperature. Clean the tip after each use.
What does the fever alarm mean?
When the ear temperature exceeds 37.5 °C, the thermometer emits one long beep followed by three short beeps. This indicates a potential fever. Consult a doctor if necessary.
How to use Scan mode to measure object temperature?
Turn on the device with ON/MEM. Then, hold ON/MEM and press SCAN once: the symbol appears. Point the tip at the object and press SCAN to display the surface temperature. Release to freeze the measurement. This mode does not measure body temperature.
How to use the stopwatch to measure heart rate?
Turn on the device with ON/MEM. Hold ON/MEM and press SCAN twice: the symbol and stopwatch appear. Press SCAN once to start, again to stop. The time displays up to 3 minutes. To reset, press ON/MEM. Example: 18 beats in 15 seconds = 72 beats/min.
How to view stored measurements?
The device stores the last 9 ear measurements with date and time. To view them, turn on the device with ON/MEM, then press ON/MEM again; the ☐ icon and the last measurement appear. Press several times to browse records.
How to clean and maintain the thermometer?
Clean the lens (inside the tip) after each use with a cotton cloth soaked in 70% alcohol. Let dry for at least 1 minute. Never immerse the tip in liquid. Store the device in a dry place, away from sunlight and liquids, between -20 °C and 50 °C.
How to replace the thermometer battery?
Remove the battery compartment cover by pushing with your thumb. Use a small screwdriver to remove the old battery. Insert a new CR2032 battery under the left metal clip, positive (+) side up. Push until it clicks. Replace the cover. Keep batteries out of reach of children.
What to do if the screen shows an error code?
Error codes 5~9 indicate a malfunction. Remove the battery for one minute, then reinsert it. If the error persists, contact a specialist. If the error appears before the device is ready, wait until the display stops flashing. For an ambient temperature discrepancy, place the thermometer in a room at 10~40 °C for 30 minutes.

4. Temperature Measurement:

4.1 Ear Temperature Measurement, important – adhere unconditionally:

a. It is recommendable to measure 3 times in the same ear. If the results differ take the highest value.

b. To avoid the risk of cross-infections you should clean the measuring tip after every use as described under “Maintenance and Cleaning”.

4.1.1 Gently pull the ear back to stretch the auditory canal. (Fig.4.1.1) Place the measuring tip comfortably into the auditory canal. It has to be directed towards the eardrum to ensure a reliable measurement. (Fig.4.1.2)

4.1.2 Press and hold the “SCAN” key till you hear a beep. You can now remove the measuring tip from the ear and read the measurement from the display.

c. For healthy individuals, temperatures at different body parts can vary by 0.2~1°C.

d. Clinical repeatability of readings: Deviation max. 0.23°C (<1 year old), 0.22°C (1~5 years old), 0.21°C (>5 years old)

4.2 Temperature Measurement in Scan Mode:

4.2.1 When you press the “SCAN” key, the device will immediately show the current temperature. Holding the “SCAN” key will update the temperature reading continually.

4.2.2 Possible applications: Temperature measurements of water, milk, clothing, skin or other objects.

Note: In this mode, a present surface temperature is measured, not the body temperature.

4.3 Room Temperature Measurement

4.3.1 You have to set the clock first before you can measure the room temperature. After switching off the device, the symbol will appear on the display together with the current room temperature.

4.3.2 For room temperature measurement: Put the device on a table and avoid the influence of direct sunlight or air conditions during measurement.

4.3.3 The room temperature can be obtained 15 minutes later.

5. After Measurements:

5.1 If the device is not operated for more than one minute, it will switch off automatically. The LCD display will show only date, time and room temperature. 5.2 To obtain an accurate measuring result and to avoid the risk of cross-infections, you should clean the measuring tip after every use as described under "Maintenance and Cleaning". 5.3 Put the protection cap onto the device when you don't use it.

How to measure the heartbeat pulse?

Use the stop watch to determine your pulse frequency. Also see chapter 3.3 "Stop Watch".

If you have counted 18 heartbeats within 15 seconds, you can calculate that you have 72 heartbeats within one minute.
