How to power the MKE 600?

The MKE 600 can be powered either via P48 phantom power through the XLR connector, or by an AA battery (1.5V or 1.2V) placed in the compartment under the lower part.

How to use the Low Cut filter?

The Low Cut switch is located on the side of the microphone. Position '—' for a linear response, position with the cut symbol to attenuate frequencies below 100 Hz, reducing wind and mechanical noise.

What does the indicator LED mean?

With P48 power, the LED lights up steady green. With battery power, it lights up red for 1 second at power-on, then turns off. A continuous red indicates Low Batt (approx. 8 hours remaining). A red flash at start-up means dead battery.

How to change the battery of the MKE 600?

Unscrew the lower part of the microphone (5) by turning it in the direction of the arrow. Insert an AA battery observing the correct polarity. Set the BATT ON/OFF switch to ON to use the battery.

Can the microphone be used without a battery if phantom power is available?

Yes, when P48 phantom power is supplied via the XLR connection, the battery is not needed. The microphone then operates continuously and the BATT ON/OFF switch has no effect.

The MKE 600 gun microphone

The MKE 600 is the ideal video camera/camcorder microphone able to handle even demanding filmic challenges. Due to its high directivity, the MKE 600 picks up sounds coming from the direction in which the camera is pointing and effectively attenuates noise coming from the sides and rear. The switchable "Low Cut" filter additionally minimizes wind noise.

Because some video cameras/camcorders do not provide phantom power, the MKE 600 can also be battery powered. A battery on/off switch prevents the battery from discharging prematurely; "Low Batt" is displayed.

Putting the MKE 600 into operation

The MKE 600 offers a choice of phantom powering via the XLR connection or internal battery powering.

P48 phantom powering via XLR connection

Connect the XLR-3 socket (female) of the microphone cable to the XLR-3 socket (male) of the microphone ⑥.
Connect the connector of the microphone cable to the video camera/camcorder or recording device. The LED ③ provides the following information:

LED P48 phantom powering

lights up	switched on; the microphone is operational
green

If phantom powered via the XLR connection, the microphone is continuously in operation (the BATT ON/OFF battery switch has no function).

Internal battery powering

Unscrew the lower part of the microphone body ⑤ by turning it in the direction of the arrow.
Insert a battery/rechargeable battery (AA size, 1.5V / 1.2V ). Observe correct polarity when inserting the battery.
Screw the lower part of the microphone body ⑤ back to the microphone by turning it in the direction of the arrow.

Set the battery switch 4 to ON to switch the internal battery on or set the battery switch to OFF to switch the battery power off.

The LED ③ provides the following information:

lights up red permanently	"Low Batt", battery is almost empty; approx. 8 h of remaining operat- ing time after initial display

When not using the microphone for extended periods of time, remove the battery to prevent self-discharge.

Using the "Low Cut" filter

Set the "Low Cut" switch ② to the desired position.
