The H setting controls the built-in water softening system of your Jenn-Air JDAF5924RX. This system reduces water hardness by eliminating limescale that accumulates on the heating element, inside the dishwasher, and on your dishes. Softened water also allows your detergent to work more effectively. This setting is particularly important if you have hard water (greater than 15 grains/gallon), as without this softener, limescale can damage the heating element and reduce washing performance.

The H setting offers 6 hardness levels, from lowest to highest. The system is disabled by default (setting 0) at the factory. Here are the 5 available activation levels: level 1 for 0-6 grains/gallon (0-100 ppm), level 2 for 6-12 grains/gallon (100-200 ppm), level 3 for 12-18 grains/gallon (200-300 ppm), level 4 for 18-36 grains/gallon (300-600 ppm), and level 5 for more than 36 grains/gallon (more than 600 ppm). You need to select the level corresponding to the actual hardness of your water.

To determine your water hardness, request a water quality report from your water supplier, or purchase a hardness test kit at a hardware store. Once the appropriate level is identified, you can set the adjustment by pressing and holding the "Hi Temp" button for 5 seconds, then pressing the "Start/Resume" button within 2 seconds. Use the "Normal" button to navigate to the H setting and confirm your selection by pressing "Start/Resume" again.

Once the softening system is activated, you need to fill the salt reservoir with special dishwasher salt. The reservoir is located in the lower part of the dishwasher, under the lower rack on the left side. To fill it, remove the lower rack, unscrew the reservoir cap by turning it counterclockwise, place the funnel provided with your dishwasher, and fill the reservoir to the brim (about 0.5 kg of salt). During the first filling, also pour water after the salt. A small indicator light on the control panel will illuminate when the salt is low.

The frequency of system regeneration depends on the hardness level you have selected. The system automatically regenerates during wash cycles to maintain optimal water softening. Important: after each filling of the salt reservoir, run a wash cycle as soon as possible to avoid corrosion. Ensure that the reservoir cap is tightly closed to prevent detergent or food from entering, which could irreversibly damage the system.
