Frequently Asked Questions - LCHOBTC10E Logik

How do I turn on the Logik LCHOBTC10E ceramic hob?
Touch the ON/OFF control. You will hear a tone, and all indicators light up briefly. Then enter standby mode. Place a suitable pan on a cooking zone and select a heat setting using the + or - controls. If no setting is chosen within 1 minute, the hob returns to standby.
How do I lock the controls to prevent accidental operation?
Make sure the hob is turned on but no cooking zone is in use. Touch the keylock control (Ⓞ). The timer display shows 'L'. To unlock, touch and hold the same control for 2 seconds. Do not lock while a zone is active; you can always turn off with the ON/OFF control in an emergency.
What should I do if the touch controls are unresponsive or difficult to operate?
First, check if the controls are locked (see keylock). If not, ensure the control area is clean and dry; a film of water can hinder operation. Use the ball of your finger, not the tip. If still unresponsive, turn off the hob at the mains, wait a few seconds, and turn on again. If the problem persists, contact a qualified technician.
How do I clean the ceramic glass surface?
Clean everyday soiling with a ceramic hob cleaner applied while the glass is warm (not hot). Wipe with a clean cloth. For sugary spills or melts, scrape immediately with a razor blade scraper held at 30°, then clean as above. Never use abrasive scourers or harsh chemicals. Always disconnect power before cleaning.
Why does the hob turn off automatically during cooking?
This is a safety feature called auto shutdown. It activates if you forget to turn off a cooking zone after a set time. Times vary by power level: levels 1-3 turn off after 8 hours, 4-6 after 4 hours, 7-9 after 2 hours. The hob also has over-temperature protection that stops operation if internal temperature gets too high.
What does 'H' mean on the display?
'H' stands for residual heat. It indicates that the cooking zone is still hot after use. Do not touch the zone until the 'H' disappears. You can use this residual heat to keep food warm or preheat another pan, saving energy.
Can I use any type of cookware on this ceramic hob?
No. Use cookware with a flat, smooth base that sits evenly on the glass. The base must be the same size as the cooking zone or slightly smaller. Avoid pans with jagged edges or curved bases. Always lift pans, do not slide them, to prevent scratches. Use pans with close-fitting lids for better efficiency.
How do I set the timer to turn off a cooking zone automatically?
First, touch the + or - control of the desired cooking zone until its power indicator lights up. While the indicator is flashing, set the time using the timer controls (+/-). Touch once to change by 1 minute, hold to change by 10 minutes (max 99 minutes). After setting, the timer counts down and the zone turns off automatically when time elapses. Touch + and - together to cancel.
What should I check if the hob does not turn on?
Ensure the hob is properly connected to the mains and the power supply is switched on. Check if there is a power outage in your home. If all seems fine and the hob still does not turn on, contact a qualified technician. Do not attempt to repair yourself.
What are the installation requirements for the LCHOBTC10E?
Installation must be done by a qualified person. The worktop cut-out should be 560 mm wide by 490 mm deep, with at least 5 cm clearance around the cut-out. The worktop thickness must be at least 20 mm and made of heat-resistant material. The hob requires ventilation: a minimum 2 cm gap below the base and no blockage of ventilation holes. Use the provided brackets to secure the hob. Electrical connection: 230-240V, use a H05VV-F cable (3x6mm² or 3x2.5mm²), and the appliance must be earthed. An omnipolar circuit breaker with 3 mm contact gap is required if connected directly.

  • Occasionally the heated areas may be seen switching on and off when higher heat settings are used. This is due to a safety device, which prevents the glass from overheating. Some switching on and off when cooking at high temperatures, e.g. deep fat frying is quite normal, causes no damage to the hob and little delay in cooking times. Excessive switching may however be caused by the use of an unsuitable saucepan or a saucepan which is smaller than the heated area. If excessive switching occurs, discontinue the use of the saucepan.
    • To improve performance, and reduce energy, always use pans with close fitting lids.

Using the Touch Controls

• The controls respond to touch, so you don't need to apply any pressure.
• Use the ball of your finger.
• You will hear an audible tone each time a touch is registered.
- Make sure the controls are always clean and dry, and that there is no object (e.g. an utensil or a cloth) covering them. Even a thin film of water may make the controls difficult to operate.

Take care when frying as oil and fat heat up very quickly. At extremely high temperatures oil and fat will ignite spontaneously, presenting a serious fire risk.

Cooking Tips

  • When food comes to the boil, reduce the temperature setting.
    • Using a lid will reduce cooking times and save energy by retaining the heat.
  • Minimise the amount of liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
  • Start cooking on a high setting and reduce the setting when the food has heated through.

Simmering, Cooking Rice

- Simmering occurs below boiling point, at around 85^ , when bubbles are just rising occasionally to the surface of the cooking liquid. It is the key to delicious soups and tender stews because the flavours develop without overcooking the food. You should also cook egg-based and flour thickened sauces below boiling point.

- Some tasks, including cooking rice by the absorption method, may require a setting higher than the lowest setting to ensure the food is cooked properly in the time recommended.

Searing Steak

To cook juicy flavoursome steaks:

  1. Stand the meat at room temperature for about 20 minutes before cooking.
  2. Heat up a heavy-based frying pan.
  3. Brush both sides of the steak with oil. Drizzle a small amount of oil into the hot pan and then lower the meat onto the hot pan.
  4. Turn the steak only once during cooking. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of the steak and how cooked you want it. Times may vary from about 2 – 8 minutes per side. Press the steak to gauge how cooked it is – the firmer it feels the more ‘well done’ it will be.
  5. Leave the steak to rest on a warm plate for a few minutes to allow it to relax and become tender before serving.

For Stir-Frying

  1. Have all the ingredients and equipment ready. Stir-frying should be quick. If cooking large quantities, cook the food in several smaller batches.
  2. Preheat the pan briefly and add two tablespoons of oil.
  3. Cook any meat first, put it aside and keep warm.
  4. Stir-fry the vegetables. When they are hot but still crisp, turn the cooking zone to a lower setting, return the meat to the pan and add your sauce.
  5. Stir the ingredients gently to make sure they are heated through.
  6. Serve immediately.

Heat Settings

The settings below are guidelines only. The exact setting will depend on several factors, including your cookware and the amount you are cooking. Experiment with the ceramic hob to find the settings that best suit you.
