using the appliance

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - using the appliance - 1

  • Never use the deep fryer when the tank is empty. Always make sure that the tank is full enough before switching the appliance on. Failing to do so could harm the appliance.
  • Never use a liquid other than oil intended for food cooking.
  • Never put your hands over the filters or inspection window. The steam and inspection window glass get burning hot.

Filling the tank

  1. Fill the tank with oil, making sure the level remains between the 'MIN' and 'MAX' marks on the tank wall. The heating element must be fully immersed in oil.

Choice of frying oil:

• We advise against using butter, margarine, olive oil or animal fat. Rather opt for a special frying oil such as peanut oil, vegetable oil or rapeseed oil.
- This deep fryer is not intended to be used with solid fats, which could contain water. During frying, this type of fat could cause splashes which could lead to the risk of burns.

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - Choice of frying oil: - 1

  • Never mix different types of oil.
  • The oil level in the tank must remain between the 'MIN' and 'MAX' marks indicated on the inside of the tank wall.

MINIMUM and MAXIMUM oil level marks:

  1. Rub the inside of the window with cold cooking oil or fat (depending on what you are using) to avoid condensation forming, and to be able to view the food during cooking.
  2. Place the lid back onto the appliance, by matching the notches on the lid with the control panel at the back and the handle of the basket(s) at the front of the appliance.

Cooking information

  • On first use, the oil tank and the basket(s) may emit a slight odour: this is normal and will not continue.
    • You can check cooking through the inspection window.
  • Add salt and pepper to the fried food outside the deep fryer in order not to contaminate the fat.

Cooking

  1. Plug in the appliance: the RED indicator light to the left of the control panel lights up when the deep fryer is properly plugged in.
  2. Remove the lid and any possible accessories.

  3. Set the temperature selector to the desired temperature (select a temperature suitable for the ingredients being used): the GREEN indicator light to the right of the control panel lights up and indicates that the deep fryer is heating up.

3. Heating indicator on

  1. The oil needs to be preheated before you start frying the ingredients. Proper preheating will allow you to make crispy, golden brown chips. The preheating time depends on the selected temperature. The preheating is complete when the GREEN indicator light to the right of the control panel switches off.

    • Set the timer switch to the "ON" position so that the deep fryer operates continuously, or
  2. If you like, you could also set the timer switch to the desired operating time (between 0 and 30 minutes).

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - Cooking - 3

  1. Place the basket(s) in the tank in the high position, handling it with the insulated handle.

  2. Place the food into the basket(s) (for optimal results, the food must be dry). Never fill the basket when it is immersed in the oil.

  3. Lower the basket(s) into the oil gradually to avoid bubbling and oil splatter. The cooking process begins.
  4. If the timer was set: once the time has elapsed, a beep will be heard and the deep fryer will switch off.
  5. Once the food is cooked, raise the basket(s). Allow the ingredients to drain by holding the basket(s) over the tank or hooking it onto the side.

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - Cooking - 4

Warning! When you lift the lid, extremely hot steam may suddenly be released. Take care not to get burned and lift up the lid gently by its handle.

  1. After use, set the temperature selector as well as the timer to the 0 position, unplug the appliance and leave it to cool completely before cleaning it.

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - Cooking - 5

Warning! In the event of overheating, the safety device automatically switches the deep fryer off. Unplug the appliance and wait for it to cool down. • Set the timer selector to 0, or
  • Unplug the appliance,
    • And leave it to cool down completely.

Useful tips

  • Dry your ingredients before putting them in the deep fryer, especially fresh fries. Ingredients that are too moist can make the oil bubble and may cause it to spill over the sides.
  • Wait until the appliance has finished preheating before placing food in the basket(s).
  • When cooking frozen or deep frozen ingredients, remove the frost and ice crystals which can cause the oil to bubble and scalding splashes of oil to be ejected.
  • Make sure that all the ingredients are approximately the same size so that they cook evenly. Do not use food that is too large.
    • Do not overload the baskets.
  • Some ingredients may be covered in breadcrumbs or covered in batter for frying.
  • Remember to drain the ingredients well once the cooking time has elapsed.
    • Make sure the room is well ventilated when the appliance is in use.

disassembling the deep fryer

The deep fryer must be allowed to cool completely before it is disassembled.

  1. Remove the basket by the handle.
  2. Remove the control unit with heating element by sliding it upwards.
  3. Grasp both sides of the tank and gently lift it out.

cleaning and maintenance

Essentiel B EFSP2146i - cleaning and maintenance - 1

  • Clean both the inside and the outside of the appliance regularly.
  • Make sure that the appliance is switched off, unplugged and fully cooled down before cleaning or performing maintenance.
    • Make sure that the oil is fully cooled down before replacing it.
  • Never immerse the control unit and heating element in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring sponges or sharp objects to avoid damaging the coating.

Frying oil

  • The oil can be used several times, but we advise you to filter it after each use in order to extract the crumbs that could accelerate its deterioration.
  • Before replacing the oil, make sure that it is fully cooled down.
  • Clean the inside of the tank: empty the oil and clean it out with paper towel, and then with a cloth soaked in soapy water. Wipe using a damp cloth and dry completely.
  • The oil can be used several times but it should be replaced at least after every 10 uses. Also replace it:

  • when it starts to foam,

  • when it turns a darker colour and
  • when it gives off an unusual odour.

Using "new" cooking fat preserves the flavour and lightness of the ingredients.

  • Never use the same oil for more than 6 months.
  • Do not mix used and new oil. Replace the entire tank with new oil.
  • Never pour used cooking fat into the sink. Empty it in a drain and discard it according to the local regulations in force.

Cleaning the parts

  • Disassemble the deep fryer as described in the previous section.
  • Remove the removable tank and empty the oil.
  • Wash all the parts in hot, soapy water, except for the control panel with heating element. Rinse and let dry completely.
  • All the parts, except for the control panel with heating element, are fully dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the control panel with paper towel, and then with a soft, slightly damp clean cloth, then dry completely.
  • Reassemble the deep fryer by referring to the "Assembly of the appliance" section.

Storage

  • Wind the power cord around the holder located at the back of the control unit.
  • Store the appliance and its accessories in a dry, cool place.
    • Make sure that the appliance has fully cooled down before placing the baskets inside to store them.
  • The oil may be stored inside the deep fryer: place the lid onto the deep fryer and store in a cool place away from sunlight.

troubleshooting guide

The deep fryer is not working:

  • Check that the control unit is correctly installed on the appliance.
  • Check to see if you are experiencing a power outage.
  • Check the condition of the fuses.

Some of the oil overflows from the deep fryer:

  • The tank contains too much oil: stop the appliance and unplug it, then leave it to cool down completely before removing any excess oil. Make sure that the oil level remains between the 'MIN' and 'MAX' marks on the tank wall.
  • The basket is too full: use a skimmer to remove some of the ingredients, taking care not to burn yourself.
    • The oil is too old: let the appliance and the oil cool down fully before replacing the oil.

The fried ingredients are soggy and becoming greasy:

• The oil is not hot enough: set the thermostat knob to a higher temperature.
- The basket is too full: use a skimmer to remove some of the ingredients, taking care not to burn yourself.

The ingredients are not cooked enough:

• The oil is too old: let the appliance and the oil cool down fully before replacing the oil.
