How do I check the accuracy of my bubble level?

Place the level on a flat surface and make a mark at one end. Note the position of the bubble, then rotate the level 180° aligning the marks. If the bubble returns to the same position, the level is accurate. Repeat the procedure for the vertical vial on a flat vertical surface.

What angles can be measured with the SP-N4 model?

The 10-inch level measures angles of 0° (horizontal) and 90° (vertical). The 16, 24, and 48-inch levels also measure the 45° angle.

Are all levels in the SP-N4 set magnetic?

No, only the 10-inch level has a magnetic bottom face. The other levels (16, 24, 48 inches) are not magnetic.

How to read the bubble correctly?

For horizontal measurement, wait for the bubble to stabilize between the two lines of the vial. If it is centered, the object is level. For vertical measurement, the bubble should be centered between the lines to indicate plumb.

What to do if the bubble is not between the lines during a horizontal measurement?

If the bubble is to the left of the center line, the left side of the object is higher. If it is to the right, the right side is higher. Adjust the object accordingly.

How to maintain my bubble level?

Clean the working surface before each use to remove dirt and debris. Store it flat in a dry place. If not using for a long time, apply a thin layer of industrial oil to prevent rust.

Can I use the level on metal surfaces?

Yes, but only the 10-inch level is magnetic. For the other levels, you will need to hold the level in place manually or use a clamp.

What to do if the bubble does not seem to stabilize?

Make sure the measuring surface is clean and the level is not subject to vibrations. Wait a few seconds for the liquid to stabilize. If the problem persists, check the accuracy of the level using the 180° rotation method.

Is the level delivered with a case?

Yes, the SP-N4 model is delivered with a storage bag to protect the levels during transport and storage.

Can I use the level to measure slopes?

Directions for Use

1. The diagram shows a horizontal bubble at all angles.

1. When the bubble is in the middle of the leveling bubble, it means that the plane of the measured object has reached the selected point of the leveling bubble; otherwise, the plane of the object needs to be adjusted again.

1. Check your spirit level for accuracy before use. You can follow these steps:

- Place the level on a flat surface.

• Make one mark at the end of the level.
• Make another mark along the side of the level, under the vial in the center. Take a reading of the bubble's position.
• Rotate the level 180 degrees end-to-end and align the level with your marks.

4. Use Spirit Levels

Find the horizontal, vertical, or 45-degree vial on your level and note the two lines. Your level probably has two small vials or liquid-filled tubes: horizontal and vertical. You will use the horizontal vial to find the horizontal plane. You will notice that the vial has a bubble and two lines in it, which are called guidelines.

• When you measure your horizontal object, and the bubble falls between the two guidelines, it is flat, even, or "level." Another way of thinking about this is that a level object is completely parallel to the horizon.
• If during your horizontal measurement, you find that the bubble is outside the left guideline, then your object's left side is higher than your right. Likewise, if the bubble is outside the right guideline, your right side is higher than your left.
• When you measure your vertical object, and the bubble falls between the two guidelines, then it is completely vertical, or "plumb." A plumb object is perpendicular to the earth.
• If during your vertical measurement, you find that the bubble is outside the top guideline, then your object's top side is bulging forward. Likewise, if the bubble is outside the bottom guideline, your object's bottom side is bulging forward.

5. Clean both the level and the object prior to taking your reading.

Dirt and debris can throw off the level, which can be sensitive. Just brushing a gloved hand across the level and object can be enough to ensure an accurate reading. If you use your level often, remove any accumulated dirt on its edges.

6. Position your level in the center of your object.

Your horizontal object might be a couple of bricks, a framed picture, or even the ground. Meanwhile, a vertical object could be a wall, a doorframe, or a fencepost. First, check whether the bubble is within the guidelines, to its right or left (horizontal) or the top or bottom (vertical). If your object is very wide or tall, you may find that an average-sized level cannot give you an accurate reading on its own. In this case, the easiest solution is to find a larger level. Consider investing in a level at least 1 meter (3.3 feet) long for the most versatility. Another option is to place the level on top of a long or tall straightedge during your measurement.

7. Double-check by moving the level away from the center.

Move the level to the right or left for horizontal readings or top or vertical readings. Sometimes, levels could be better made, damaged, or defective, which renders their readings inaccurate. You can always

double-check the reading by re-positioning the level on the object and ensuring the reading is the same.

8. Take the appropriate action to level your object if necessary.

If you discover that your object is unlevel, you may level it. For example, if your horizontal object is a couple of bricks, you can add more mortar to the brick that is resting lower. Or, if your vertical object is a cabinet, you may add a filler piece between the cabinet and the wall it rests on.

- In some cases, you may want an unlevel reading! For example, that might be the case if you measure rain gutters or a patio on the horizontal, which must have a slight slope to drain rain properly. Some levels have outer lines in the vial, which measure the 2-percent slope, or “grade,” necessary for these projects.

9. MAINTENANCE

The horizontal ruler is easily preserved. It can be hung somewhere flat or placed in a table or drawer without affecting its straightness and parallelism. It is accessible to rust if it is light aluminum and magnesium grade. The horizontal ruler does not need to be oiled during use. Storage is gentle with a thin layer of ordinary industrial oil if not used for a long time.

• Take another reading. If the level is accurate, the bubble will be in the same position for both readings. - To test the vertical vial, follow the same procedure against a flat surface.
