Frequently Asked Questions - WA 2118 SEVERIN

How to use the Severin WA 2118 waffle maker for the first time?
Before first use, heat the waffle maker for about 10 minutes at the maximum setting with the plates closed to eliminate the new smell. Ventilate the room. Allow to cool, then clean the plates with a soft damp cloth. Discard the first waffle for hygiene reasons.
How to adjust the temperature on the waffle maker?
Turn the adjustable thermostat to the desired position. The red light indicates heating; it turns green when the temperature is reached. For golden waffles, start at the maximum position and adjust to your preference.
Why does the indicator light blink or change color?
The red light means the appliance is heating. Once the selected temperature is reached, it turns green. During cooking, it may turn red again if the temperature drops, then green again when it is reached again.
What type of batter to use for waffles?
Use a classic waffle batter, for example the provided recipe: 200 g margarine or butter, 100 g sugar, lemon zest, 4 eggs, 200 g flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1 tablespoon rum. Mix well and cook immediately.
How to clean the waffle maker after use?
Unplug and let it cool completely in the open position. Clean the body with a damp cloth. The non-stick plates can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth, soft brush, or sponge. Never use sharp objects or abrasive products. Never immerse the appliance in water.
What to do if waffles stick to the plates?
Before first use, lightly oil the plates with a high-temperature frying oil. If waffles still stick, check that the non-stick coating is not damaged. Do not use metal utensils to remove waffles.
Can I use the waffle maker for something other than waffles?
No, the appliance is exclusively intended for making waffles. Any other use is considered improper and may cause injury or damage.
How to keep waffles crispy?
Let the waffles cool side by side on a wire rack. Do not stack them, as they will lose their crispiness. You can also keep them in a low-temperature oven (80°C) if serving later.
What to do if the appliance does not heat up?
Check that the plug is properly inserted and the wall outlet works. Make sure the thermostat is not on the minimum setting. If the problem persists, contact customer service: repairs must be carried out by a professional.
Does the waffle maker have an automatic shut-off?
No, the appliance does not have automatic shut-off. Never leave it unattended when plugged in or still hot. Always unplug it after use.

Intended use

The appliance is designed exclusively for making waffles.
- Any use other than that described in these instructions must be considered improper and may lead to personal injury or material damage.

Before initial use

The waffle iron should be preheated for ten minutes with the lids closed. (If your waffle iron has an adjustable thermostat control, turn it to its highest setting). This will remove the smell typically encountered when first switching on the waffle iron. For that reason, adequate ventilation should be ensured by opening windows or balcony doors. Clean the appliance afterwards as described in General care and cleaning. For reasons of hygiene, discard the first waffle produced when the appliance is new

Operation

  • Close the lids.
Plug in the appliance. The indicator light on the temperature control shows red.
  • Turn the thermostat control to its maximum setting.
  • Preheat the waffle iron for about eight minutes. It is then ready for use.
Once the pre-set temperature is reached, the indicator light on the temperature control shows green.
  • Open the two lids.

  • Before use, the non-stick plates should be lightly greased with a small amount of oil or fat that is specifically intended for frying and may be safely heated to high temperatures.

  • Put the dough on the middle of the lower plate.
  • Close the upper lid and press down gently to help spread the dough evenly.
  • The baking time is in general 2 - 3 minutes, depending on the nature of the dough as well as the selected temperature.
  • Shortly after placing the dough in the waffle iron, the indicator light on the temperature control shows red. The green light will come on again once the baking process is finished.
  • Do not use any sharp objects to remove waffles. This can damage the non-stick coating.
  • Check the level of browning. Should the waffle be too light or too dark, adjust the temperature control or baking time.
  • Place fresh dough into the waffle iron immediately after removing the waffle.
  • After use, remove the plug from the wall socket and allow the appliance to cool down with its cooking plates open.

Practical hints

In order to maintain the crispness of the waffles, place them next to each other on a rack to cool. (Placed on top of each other, the waffles will lose their crispness).
- If milk is used instead of water, the waffles will be softer and darker.
In order to achieve even browning,

all ingredients should be of the same temperature.
