Terminal Connections

  1. WARNING: To avoid potential damage to your loudspeaker, ensure that the amplifier is switched OFF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cables.
  2. Before switching the amplifier ON, double check that all connections are secure and that the polarity is correct.
  3. The speaker wires are attached to the spring terminals of the mounting bracket, and not to the loudspeaker.
  4. The mounting bracket can be preinstalled and wired up, and the loudspeaker added at a later stage.
  5. The speaker wires can be fitted to the bracket from above, from behind (center), or from below:

TANNOY QCI A1 - Terminal Connections - 1

  1. If the speaker wires are coming from above, remove the rear cover of the bracket and carefully cut the area at the top. It is already thinner in this area. Replace the rear cover on the bracket.
  2. Feed the speaker wires from the rear and in through the top hole.
  3. If the speaker wires are coming from below, remove the rear cover of the bracket and cut the area at the bottom. It is already thinner in this area. Replace the rear cover on the bracket.
  4. Feed the speaker wires from the rear and in through the bottom hole.
  5. If the speaker wires are coming from the center, there is no need to remove the rear cover of the bracket.
  6. Feed the speaker wires from the rear and in through the center hole.
  7. The two spring terminals of the mounting bracket are colored RED positive (+) and BLACK negative (-) . These connect respectively to the positive (+) and negative (-) output terminals of your audio power amplifier.
  8. Strip off approximately 8mm (\%) of the outer protective layer of one conductor and twist its inner cores together to prevent shorting from stray wires. Insert the core into the spring terminal while ensuring that correct polarity is maintained. Repeat this for both speaker wires. Gently pull on the wires to verify they are making a secure connection.

Wiring and Setting Up

Installation

  1. WARNING: To avoid potential damage to your loud speaker, ensure that the amplifier is switched OFF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cables.
  2. The procedure below describes the installation of the loudspeaker into a typical stud wall with drywall/plasterboard.
  3. The loudspeaker can be installed vertically or horizontally.
  4. Locate a suitable mounting position for the loudspeaker, using a stud-finder.
WARNING: Make sure that there are no power lines, other cables, or plumbing such as water, sewer, gas lines in the chosen location.
  5. Run the speaker wire from your amplifier to this location, leaving enough slack to allow for the connection.
  6. The mounting bracket can be preinstalled and wired, and the speaker assembly added at a later stage.
  7. Remove the loudspeaker from the bracket by using an M10 hexagonal wrench to undo the lower pivot.
  8. Remove the front cover from the bracket, to expose the wiring terminals and mounting holes.

TANNOY QCI A1 - Installation - 1

  1. If the mounting bracket is to be mounted to a stud, then the screws must be long enough to enter into the wood and make a secure and safe mounting position. Consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
  2. If the loudspeaker mounting bracket is to be mounted to drywall or a solid masonry wall, then suitable screws and wall plugs must be used to make a secure and safe mounting position. Consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
  3. Follow the information on the previous pages to connect the speaker wires from your power amplifier to the speaker terminals. Make sure to check that the polarity is correct and that the positive and negative wires are securely and correctly connected.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket in place using four screws. Check that the bracket is truly level, vertically or horizontally. Reft the front cover to the mounting bracket.

  5. If it will be some time before the loudspeaker is installed, cover the mounting bracket pivot to prevent any dust, moisture, or paint from entering. Note that the pivot contains the electrical connections to the loudspeaker, so if this is not kept clean, it may cause a bad connection.

  6. When ready, carefully align the loudspeaker with the mounting bracket, and tighten it up with an M10 hexagonal wrench. Adjust the angle of the loudspeaker before finally tightening it in position.
  7. Thoroughly test the loudspeaker operation with your sound system. Note that the passive radiator at the rear of the loudspeaker must be free to move, and must not touch any objects or calling for example.
