Frequently Asked Questions - GS240C Greencut

How to tension the chain of my Greencut GS240C chainsaw?
To tension the chain, make sure it is cold and the device is unplugged. Unlock the side wheel (dark gray inner part) by turning it counterclockwise. Then turn the outer part (light gray) clockwise to tighten the chain. Once the tension is correct, lock by turning the inner part clockwise. Check that the chain does not stop immediately after releasing the trigger: it should still rotate for 1 to 2 seconds.
What type of oil to use for lubrication?
Use a special chainsaw oil, non-polluting and adhesive. The tank capacity is 150 ml. Check the oil level before each use via the transparent indicator.
How to sharpen the chain of the GS240C?
Sharpen with a round file (appropriate diameter) following a 35° angle. Use a guide and a depth gauge. First brake the chain, mark the first tooth, file each tooth by sliding the file upward. Check the height between the depth gauge tooth and the cutting tooth (about 3 mm) using the gauge. Repeat on the other side of the chain.
What safety precautions should be taken before using the chainsaw?
Wear a respirator mask, sturdy gloves, a helmet, eye and ear protection, non-slip steel-toe boots, and leg guards. Read the manual carefully before use. Only cut wood.
What to do if the chain does not rotate correctly?
First check the chain tension. Make sure the chain brake is not activated. Check the oil level and proper lubrication. If the problem persists, contact the official technical service.
How to clean the guide bar and chain after use?
After each use, clean the guide bar groove and lubrication hole with chain oil. Use a flat file to remove nicks or burrs. Check the wear of the guide bar tip and flip it if worn on one side.
Can I use the chainsaw to cut materials other than wood?
No. The chainsaw is designed only for cutting wood. Any other use (plastic, brick, etc.) is dangerous and voids the warranty.
How to store the chainsaw after use?
Let the device cool down completely. Store it in a clean, dry, and safe place, away from sun and humidity, at a temperature between 0°C and 45°C. Place the chain guard and keep out of reach of children.
What to do if the machine does not start?
Check that the plug is connected and the cable is not damaged. Ensure the chain brake is disengaged and the power switch is in the on position. If the problem persists, contact the technical service.
Where can I buy spare parts for the GS240C?
Spare parts and accessories are available from the official Greencut technical service. Use only original parts to maintain the warranty. Check the website or contact support.

MAINTENANCE

CONTROL AND TENSIONING OF THE CHAIN

The chain must always be checked and tensioned when it is cold. All metals expand with temperature. If we tension the chain when it is hot, we run the risk of overtensioning it and causing it to suffer excessively when it is cold. Remember to always handle it when it is cold, with the machine switched off and always with the power cable disconnected.

The chain tensioning of our GS240C is done by means of the side adjustment wheel on the bar cover.

First of all, unlock the wheel to be able to manipulate it by slightly lifting and turning the inner part of the wheel (dark grey) counterclockwise.

Greencut GS240C - CONTROL AND TENSIONING OF THE CHAIN - 1

natural_image Close-up of a mechanical component with a green circular feature and a green arrow indicating rotation (no text or symbols)

Once the rotation is unlocked, adjust the tensioning by turning the wheel (light grey): clockwise to tighten, anticlockwise to loosen tension.

Greencut GS240C - CONTROL AND TENSIONING OF THE CHAIN - 2

natural_image Close-up of a mechanical component with green circular features and a green arrow indicating rotation (no text or symbols)

Once the tensioning has been adjusted correctly, following the graphs above, lock the tensioner again by turning the inside of the wheel (dark grey part) clockwise until the position is adjusted and the wheel cannot rotate.

To make sure that the tensioning is not excessive, switch on the machine and tap the trigger. The chain should not stop immediately, but should rotate for a second or two seconds more.

SHARPENING THE CHAIN TEETH

To sharpen the blade we will need:

  • A guide.
  • A limiting gauge.
  • A flat file.
  • A round file.

1) We brake the chain so that we can start sharpening without it moving.
2) Mark with a pencil or felt-tip pen the tooth where we are going to start sharpening. This mark will serve as a guide so that we don't get lost and know where we have started sharpening.

Greencut GS240C - SHARPENING THE CHAIN TEETH - 1

natural_image Close-up of a gloved hand holding a small electronic component, no visible text or symbols

3) Insert the round file into the face of the tooth to be sharpened in a position of about 35°.
4) Start filing. Slide the file at the correct angle and with a slight upward force.

Greencut GS240C - SHARPENING THE CHAIN TEETH - 2

natural_image Close-up of a mechanical component with gear and a transparent blade, no visible text or symbols

5) We perform the same procedure on all teeth.
6) In order to be able to work, we must unlock the chain, move the remaining part to the upper part of the sword and lock it again so that we can work better.
7) Invert the machine and perform the same procedure (step 2 to 8) in the other direction.
8) Check the height with the gauge and rectify if necessary. The height between the guide tooth and the cutting tooth should be about 3mm.

BLADE

Clean the bar groove after each use. Clean the lubrication hole with chain oil.

Check that the front wheel has not loosened: if it has loosened, the guide bar must be replaced. Check the guide bar for nicks. Remove any nicks or burrs with a flat file. Check the tip of the guide bar for wear. If it is worn on one side only, turn it over. If it is worn on both sides, replace the guidebar with a new one.

Check the bar groove for wear by shaking the chain. If it wobbles, you will need to replace the blade.
