Each player says one number in turn in clockwise direction. After every counting round you assign a task to one new number. On the task cards, Fred “the bat” shows you how to say the number or with which pose, gesture or noise you must replace it. 20 gemstones 40 task cards 20 number cards Preparation for the game Shuffle the number cards and place the deck face down in the centre of the table. You need a different number of gemstones depending on the number of players. Get these ready: 2–3 players: 13 gemstones 4–6 players: 16 gemstones 7+ players: 20 gemstones Finally, shuffle the task cards face down. Depending on which level of difficulty you choose, place a different number of cards as a task deck next to the number cards: Level 1: 6 task cards Level 2: 10 task cards Level 3: 14 task cards Level 4: 18 task cards We recommend you to start with level 1 for your first game. You can move straight to another level later if that’s too easy. The counting The youngest player begins a counting round and says “one”. Then counting continues in clockwise direction with “two”, “three” and so on. A counting round finishes either when you reach “twenty” without making a mistake or when a player makes a mistake.12

The first task Take 2 cards from the number deck and look at them. These are the two numbers that you have to switch when counting. Put the number cards face up in a deck on the table. A new task Every time that you have counted from 1 to 20 without making a mistake, you have to add another task for the next counting round. You pick up a new number card and a new task card. Place the number card face up on the number deck, the task card on the task deck. From now on, you have to do what the task card tells you instead of saying the number. First make sure that all the players know what the new task means. Attention: You can always only see the latest number and task combination. Earlier number and task cards are concealed but they still count. At the end of a counting round, you may have a look at the task and number combinations that you have forgotten. Example: You have drawn the "3" and the "16". You count: 1 – 2 – 16 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 – 10 – 11 – 12 – 13 – 14 – 15 – 3 – 17 – 18 – 19 – 20. End of the game The game ends in two ways:

1. All of the task cards have been assigned.

Very good! Do you want to continue playing? Then place 4 task cards face down in a deck on the table and carry on. Or, you read on here to see how you got on: Level 1: Very good start! You’re ready for level 2. Level 2: Great! More than half of all the numbers already have tasks. Keep it up! Level 3: You’re getting really good! Another 4 tasks and all the numbers will have tasks. Level 4: Wow, congratulations! You’ve assigned tasks to all the number cards. That’s as good as it gets. Try to have more gemstones left over next time.

2. All the gemstones are back in the box.

The game ends immediately as soon as the last gemstone is put back in the box. Never mind, we’re sure you’ll manage to assign task cards to all the numbers next time. Variation of the game: Every man for himself (we recommend this variation for 2 to 6 players) Share out all the gemstones equally to all players. Put any that are left over back into the box. Start the game as usual but now it is important who made the mistake. This player must then put one of his gemstones back in the box. The game ends as soon as one player has no more gemstones. The winner is the player or players who then have the most gemstones left. The tasks Task cards have a number in the bottom right-hand corner to help you to find them in the overview. And also: If Fritz “the bat” shows a certain number, this is always an example. You then have to use the assigned number instead of the example number.
