POWEG63773X 1 INTENDED USE The purpose of this lawn mower is to cut grass. This lawn mower has been designed for cutting grass areas in a domestic garden. Not suitable for professional use. WARNING! Read this manual and general safety instructions carefully before using the appliance, for your own safety. 7. Oil cap / dipstick

Remove all packing materials.

Remove remaining packaging and transit supports (if existing).

Check the completeness of the packing content.

Check the appliance, the power cord, the power plug and all accessories for transportation damages.

5 GENERAL SAFETY RULES

WARNING: When using petrol tools, basic safety precautions, including the following, should

always be followed to reduce the risk of serious personal injury and/or damage to the unit. Read all these instruction before operating this product and retain these instructions for future reference.

WARNING: This machine produces an electromagnetic field during operation. This field may

under some circumstances interfere with active or passive medical implants. To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury, we recommend persons with medical implants to consult their physician and the medical implant manufacturer before operating this machine.

Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and the proper use of the equipment;

Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the lawn mower. Local regulations can restrict the age of the operator;

Never mow while people, especially children, or pets are nearby;

Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.

The operators must receive proper training in the use, adjustment and operation of the machine, including prohibited operations.

While mowing, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals;

Before work, the area to be mowed must be thoroughly examined. All objects, such as stones, toys, sticks and wires, etc. that can be casted out by the machine, must be removed.

WARNING: Petrol is highly flammable.

Store fuel in containers specifically designed for this purpose.

Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke while refuelling.

Add fuel before starting the engine. Never remove the cap of the fuel tank or add petrol while the engine is running or when the engine is hot.

If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but move the machine away from the area of spillage and avoid creating any source of ignition until petrol vapours have dissipated.

Replace all fuel tank and container caps securely.

Replace faulty silencers.

Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance.

Do not operate the engine in a confined space where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect.

Warning! Do not use the lawnmower when there is a risk for lighting.

Be careful when working with the lawn mower on slopes and nearby rubbish dumps, ditches or embankments.

Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light.

Avoid operating the equipment in wet grass, where feasible.

Always be sure of your footing on slopes.

For wheeled rotary machines, mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.

Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes.

Do not mow excessively steep slopes.

Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the lawn mower towards you.

Stop the blade(s) if the lawn mower has to be tilted for transportation when crossing surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the lawn mower to and from the area to be mowed.

Never operate the lawn mower with defective guards, or without safety devices, for example deflectors and/or grass catchers, in place.

Caution: The lawnmower shall not be operated without either the entire grass catcher or self-closing discharge opening guard in place.

Do not change the engine governor settings or overspeed the engine.

Do not alter or tamper with any sealed adjustment for the engine speed control.

The lawnmower safety systems or features shall not be tampered with or disabled.

Disengage all blades and drive clutches before starting the engine.

Start the engine carefully according to instructions and with feet well away from the blade(s).

Do not tilt the lawn mower when starting the engine.

Do not start the engine when standing in front of the discharge chute.

Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times.

Never pick up or carry a lawn mower while the engine is running.

Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire, make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop and, where a key is fitted remove the key: Before clearing blockages or unclogging chute; Before checking, cleaning or working on the lawn mower; After striking a foreign object. Inspect the lawnmower for damage and make repairs before restarting and operating the lawn mower; If lawn mower starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately).

Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire, make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop and, where a key is fitted remove the key: Whenever you leave the lawn mower; Before refuelling.

Go slow when using a trailing seat.

Please note that the user should not modify or manipulate any sealed settings for engine speed control.

Check the machine regularly and make sure before each use that all start locks and push buttons are working properly.

Do not use the lawn mower when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

Do not use the lawn mower in bad weather, especially if there is a risk of lightning.

5.4 Maintenance and storage

Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition.

Never store the equipment with petrol in the tank inside a building where fumes can reach an open flame or spark.

To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer, battery compartment and petrol storage area free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease.

Check the grass catcher frequently for wear or deterioration.

Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.

If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done outdoors.

Improper maintenance, use of non-conforming replacement components, or the removal or modification of safety components can damage the lawnmower and injure the operators seriously.

Only use the recommended blades and spare parts by the manufacturer. The use of non- genuine parts can damage the machine and injure the operators. Keep the lawnmower in good working condition.

If the blade stopping device doesn’t work, please contact service centre for help.

Warning: Do not touch rotating blade.

Warning: Refuel in a well ventilated area with the engine stopped.

Operate the lawn mower only with the grass box and/or the deflector plate installed.

Stop the engine before emptying the grass box or adjusting the cutting height.

Keep your hands and feet away from the area under the lawn mower or under the grass discharge, while the engine is running.

Before mowing, clear the lawn of any foreign objects which could be thrown up by the lawn mower.

Keep children, other persons and pets at a safe distance, while operating the lawn mower.

Never tilt the lawn mower while starting it.

7 SAFETY WARNINGS GASOLINE

WARNING: Use extra care in handling fuels. They are flammable and the

vapours are explosive. The following points must be observed.

Use only an approved container.

Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel with the power source running. Allow engine exhaust components to cool before refuelling.

Never refuel the machine indoors.

Never store the machine or fuel containers inside, where is an open flame, such as a water heater.

If fuel is spilled, do not attempt to start the power source, but move the machine away from the area of spillage before starting.

Always replace and securely tighten the fuel cap after refuelling.

If the tank is drained, this should be done outdoors. 8 ASSEMBLY

8.2 Folding handle (Fig. 1)

Insert the lower handle (16) into the corresponding holes in the deck (17) and fix the lower handles with the two locking knobs (15). (Fig. 1A)

Screw the upper handle (18) with the two locking knobs. (Fig. 1B) Caution: Traction and starter cables must always be positioned on top of the cross bar of the push handle. This provides free movement of the cables on top of the lower section of the push handle, when the handle is folded. Incorrect mounting of these cables could lead to damaging and/or straining them, resulting in a malfunction of the machine. In this case the guaranty is void.

8.3 Starter handle (Fig. 2)

Move the starter handle from the engine to the rope guide.

8.4 Collect box (Fig. 3)

Clip the plastic edges of the box onto the frame and attach the clips.

Fix the handle on the top cover of the grass collect box (5)

Lift the rear cover (20), remove the mulching plug (22) and install the grass collect box (5).

8.5 Wheels assembly (Fig. 4)

Step 1: Remove all nuts and washers from all 4 axles using an M10 wrench (supplied). Step 2: Mount the two front wheels and fasten the nuts with the wrench as shown in the illustration. Step 3: First slide a washer over the rear axles, then the wheel and again a washer, fasten with a nut as shown in the illustration. Step 4: Finish by mounting the wheel covers, push and tap them in to place as shown in the illustration. 9 BEFORE STARTING This lawn mower is shipped WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in the engine

All engines are run at the factory prior to packaging. Most of the oil is removed prior to shipment; however, some oil remains in the engine. The amount of oil left in the engine varies. Add enough oil to bring the oil level between the upper and lower limit marks on the dipstick (Fig. 5). Do not overfill engine with oil.

9.1.1 Add gasoline (Fig. 6)

WARNING: never fill fuel tank indoors, with engine running or until the engine

has been allowed to cool for at least 15 minutes after running. NOTE: Engine delivered without gasoline, refuel 1.0 liter before starting the engine.

Remove the fuel cap (6).

Add fuel to the bottom of the fuel level limit in the neck of the fuel tank. Do not overfill. Wipe up spilled fuel before starting the engine.

Do not store, spill or use gasoline near an open flame CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methane can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage). Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage. To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied before storage (See chapter Storage, further in this manual) Gasoline is extremely flammable, and gasoline vapor can explode, causing serious injury or death. Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Keep out of reach of children. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine stopped. Do not smoke or allow flames or sparks in the area where the engine is refueled or where gasoline is stored. Avoid repeated or prolonged contact with skin or breathing of vapor. After refueling, tighten the fuel tank cap securely. If any fuel was spilled, make sure the area is dry before starting the engine. 10 OPERATION

10.1 Starting the engine

10.1.1 Primer bulb (Fig. 7)

In cold condition, it’s necessary to push the primer bulb (10) on the air filter (12) before pulling the starter handle (4). Prime only for cool engine use: We also should put more fuel to air mix for easy start. When you push the primer bulb (10), it will pump the fuel direct from the carburetor to the combustion chamber.

Pull back on the brake lever and hold it against the handle. (Fig. 8)

Release the drive lever (3). This will prevent the mower from moving forward when you operate the starter.

With the starter handle (4) in its support, take the starter handle (4) with your right hand and pull slowly until resistance is detected, then pull energetically on the starter handle (4) with starter rope through the support. (If the cold start is not sufficient enough, repeat this operation 2 or 3 times). (Fig. 9)

10.1.2 Operating the controls for mowing

Blade is in action as soon as engine started. While the machine is working hold the brake lever (2) in working position. The engine will stop as soon as you release the brake lever (2). Release the brake lever (2) to stop the engine whenever you need to leave the mower. Temperature Number of pushes <0℃ 3~4 0℃~10℃ 2~3 10℃~20℃ 1~2 >20℃

Release the brake lever (2). WARNING! The blade will continue to rotate for a few seconds after the engine has stopped. Disconnect the spark plug cap if the lawnmower is to be left unattended.

10.3 Self-propelling function (Fig. 10)

Push the drive lever (3) forward and hold it against the push handle (1) to propel the mower forward.

Release the drive lever (3) to stop the mower’s forward movement.

Always release the drive lever before starting the engine. If the clutch is engaged, the mower will move forward.

Operate the drive lever with a quick and complete motion, so the clutch is either fully engaged or fully released. Hold the drive lever against the push handle (1) during self- propelled mowing. This will help to extend the service life of the clutch mechanism.

WARNING: The lawn mower immediately starts moving. To stop the

movement, release the brake lever (2). The lawn mower will then stop immediately.

10.4 Height adjustment instructions (Fig. 11)

Caution: before changing mowing height, stop mower and disconnect spark plug cable. Your mower is equipped with a central height adjustment lever offering 6 height positions.

To change the height of cut, squeeze adjuster lever toward the wheel, moving up or down to selected height.

All wheels will be in the same height of cut. Medium position is best for most lawns.

Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the cutting height to reduce resistance (prevent overload of the engine) and leaving clumps of grass clippings. It may also be necessary to run the lawn mower over the area a second time.

For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the width of cut by over lapping previously cut paths and mow slowly.

The pores in the cloth grass catcher can become blocked with dirt and dust and will collect less grass. To prevent this, regularly hose down the grass catcher and let dry before re using.

Keep the top of the engine (around the starter) clear and clean of grass clippings and chaff. From lawn mower with rear discharge to mulching mower or as side-discharge mower.

11.1 What is mulching

When mulching, the grass is cut in one working step, then finely chopped and returned to the grass strip as natural fertilizer. Hints for mulch-mowing:

Regular cut-back by max. 2 cm from 6 cm to 4 cm grass height.

Use a sharp cutting knife.

Do not mow wet grass.

Set to max. motor speed.

Only move at working pace.

Regularly clean mulching wedge, housing inner side and mowing blade.

WARNING: only with a stopped motor and standstill cutter.

Raise the rear cover (20) and remove the collect box (5).

Push the mulching plug (22) into the rear discharge port (19). The mulching plug (22) only fits one way.

11.2.2 Mowing with the grass catch bag (Fig. 13)

WARNING: only with a stopped motor and standstill cutter.

Regularly clean the discharge opening form grass rest and stuck dirt. Mount the grass catch bag:

To fit: raise the rear cover and hitch the grass catch bag on rear of mower.

To remove: grasp and lift the rear cover, remove the grass catch bag. 12 MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT - Regular, careful maintenance is essential for keeping the safety level and original performance of the machine unchanged in time. Stop the engine and disconnect and earth the spark plug before any repairing or maintenance operations. Warning! Risk of injury due to dangerous moving parts! Rework or sharpening blades is not recommended unless it is done by a repair service or a similarly qualified specialist!

Check the self-closing guard and grass-catcher frequently for wear and deterioration.

Whenever the machine is to be handled, transported or tilted you must: o wear strong working gloves o grasp the machine at the points that offer a safe grip, taking account of the weight and its distribution.

Tilt the mower to the right, so the air cleaner side is up. This will help to prevent fuel leakage and hard starting.

Inspect the blade (21) for damage, cracks and excessive rust or corrosion.

A dull blade (21) can be sharpened, but a blade that is excessively worn, bent, cracked, or otherwise damaged must be replaced.

A torque wrench must always be used when installing the blade (21).

Check that the blade bolts are tight.

12.1.2 Removal and installation

If you remove the blade (21) for sharpening or replacement, you will need a torque wrench for installation. Wear heavy gloves to protect your hands.

Remove the bolt with a socket wrench. Use a wooden block to prevent the blade from turning when removing the bolt. Then remove the blade.

Install the blade using the blade bolt and special washers. Be sure to install the special washers with the concave side toward the blade and the convex side toward the bolt.

Tighten the blade bolt with a torque wrench. Use a wooden block to prevent the blade from turning when tightening the bolt.

12.2 Grass Bag Cleaning and Replacement

Unclip the plastic edges of the bag from the frame, remove the bag from the upper cover. Insert the fabric bag into the upper cover, clip the plastic edges of the bag onto the frame.

12.3 Water Nozzle (Fig. 14)

The left side of the mower deck (17) is fitted with a water nozzle (14) for washing the deck.

When using the water nozzle (14), the machine must be in the lowest height setting and placed on the lawn. This ensures that the water remains under the deck during cleaning.

Attach a hose to the nozzle (14).

Turn on the water and start the engine.

The rotations of the blades will ensure that the water will clean the underside of the deck.

12.4 Changing / draining the oil

12.4.1 Check Engine Oil Level (Fig. 15)

Check the engine oil level with the engine stopped and the mower. Remove the oil cap (7), and wipe the dipstick clean.

Insert the dipstick into the oil filler neck, but do not screw it in.

Check the oil level shown on the dipstick. If near the lower, fill to the upper level with the oil. Do not overfill.

Screw in the oil cap (7) securely. NOTICE: Running the engine with a low oil level will cause engine damage.

12.4.2 Change Engine Oil

Drain the used oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely.

Wipe the oil filler area clean, then remove the oil filler cap/dipstick (7).

Place a suitable container next to the mower to catch the used oil, then tilt the mower on its right side. The used oil will drain through the filler neck. Allow the oil to drain completely.

Please dispose of used motor oil and the containers in a manner that is compatible with the environment. We suggest you take it in a sealed container to your local recycling center or service station for reclamation. Do not throw it in the trash, pour it on the ground, or pour it down a drain.

Fill with the recommended oil. Do not overfill. Allow a couple of minutes for the oil to settle in the engine, then measure the oil level.

12.5 Spark plug (Fig. 16)

For good performance, the spark plug (9) must be properly gapped and free of deposits.

Disconnect the spark plug cap and remove any dirt from around the spark plug area.

Remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench supplied.

Inspect the spark plug. Replace it if the electrodes are worn, or if the insulator is cracked or chipped.

Measure the spark plug electrode gap with a suitable gauge. The gap should be 0.028 ~

0.031 in (0.7 ~ 0.8mm). Correct the gap, if necessary, by carefully bending the side

electrode with a suitable tool.

Install the spark plug carefully, by hand, to avoid cross-threading.

Install the spark plug cap on the spark plug. NOTICE: A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine. Over tightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head.POWEG63773X EN Copyright © 2022 VARO P a g e | 15 www.varo.com

12.6 To clean air filter (Fig. 17)

NOTICE: Operating the engine without an air cleaner, or with a damaged air cleaner, will allow dirt to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear.

Press down on the cover tab and remove the cover.

Remove the filter from the air cleaner base..

Inspect the filter and foam element, and replace it if damaged.

Clean the filter by tapping it several times on a hard surface to remove dirt, or blow compressed air through the air filter from the inside. Never try to brush off dirt; brushing will force dirt into the fibers.

Wipe dirt from the inside of the air cleaner base and cover, using a moist rag. Be careful to prevent dirt from entering the air duct that leads to the carburetor.

Reinstall the filter and cover.

12.7 Cable Adjustment

Before the machine is being used, the cable adjustment should always be checked. The cables can be checked by activating the handles fully and check if the cable is tight. If not, it must be tightened. If the handle cannot easily be fully activated, the cable should be loosened. After first season, it must be expected that the cables need to be adjusted for optimal activation, as cables can stretch when used. To avoid damage it is recommended to have the cables adjusted in a recognized service center. The following cables may be necessary to readjust:

12.8 Maintenance schedule

To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied before storage of 30 days or longer. Empty the gas tank, start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburettor are empty. Use fresh fuel next season. Never use engine or carburettor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur. The following steps should be taken to prepare lawn mower for storage.

Following the final cut of the season allow the fuel tank to run dry.

Clean and lubricate mower thoroughly as described in the lubrication instructions.

Refer to engine manual for correct engine storage instructions.

Store mower in a dry, clean area. NOTE:

When storing any type of power equipment in an unventilated or material storage shed, - Care should be taken to rust-proof the equipment. Using a light oil or silicone, coat the equipment, especially cables and all moving parts.

Be careful not to bend or kink cables.

If the starter rope becomes disconnected from rope guide on handle, disconnect and ground the spark plug wire. Grasp the starter handle of the engine and slowly pull the starter rope out of the engine. Then slip the starter rope into the rope guide bolt of the starter rope on the handle. 16 TRANSPORTATION

Switch the product off and disconnect the spark plug connector before transporting it anywhere.

Attach transportation guards, if applicable.

Always transport the product by its handle.

Protect the product from any heavy impact or strong vibrations which may occur during transportation in vehicles.

Secure the product to prevent it from slipping or falling over, loss of fuel, damage and injury. 17 WARRANTY

This product is warranted as provided by law for a 24 -month period effective from the date of purchase by the first user.

This warranty covers all material or production flaws excluding : batteries, chargers, defective parts subject to normal wear & tear such as bearings, brushes, cables, and plugs, or accessories such as drills, drill bits, saw blades, etc. ; damage or defects resulting from maltreatment, accidents or alterations; nor the cost of transportation.

Acceptance of claims under warranty can never lead to the prolongation of the warranty period nor commencement of a new warranty period in case of a device replacement.

Devices or parts which are replaced under the warranty therefore remain the property of Varo NV.

Your appliance must be returned undismantled to your dealer in an acceptably clean state, (in its original blow-moulded case if applicable to the unit), accompanied by proof of purchase. 18 ENVIRONMENT Should your appliance need replacement after extended use, do not discard it with the household rubbish but dispose of it in an environmentally safe way.
