Frequently Asked Questions - PRM1202 Power Dynamics

How to connect a Bluetooth device to the PRM1202?
Press the MODE button on the front panel to select the Bluetooth function. On your device (phone, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for PRM-AMPLIFIER. Select it to establish the connection. If a code is requested, enter 0000. The maximum range is about 10 meters without obstacles.
Can I use condenser microphones with the PRM1202?
Yes, channel 1 (XLR input) has a +20 V phantom power that can be activated via the DIP switch marked Phantom. Connect your condenser microphone, set the switch to ON, and ensure the amplifier is turned off before changing this setting to avoid noise.
How to configure microphone priority (VOX)?
On the rear panel, next to the XLR mic 1 input, there are 4 DIP switches. The last one (marked VOX) enables the priority of mic 1: when set to ON, the sound from mic 1 temporarily cuts all other audio signals. Use this function for announcements or voice interventions.
What is the difference between 8 Ω and 100 V outputs?
The PRM1202 offers two types of output per zone: 8 Ω for low-impedance speakers (standard speakers) and 100 V for line systems (multiple speakers in parallel, typical for installed sound). You must choose one type per zone at installation, they cannot be used simultaneously.
How to connect 100 V line speakers?
Connect the + cable of the speaker to the 100V terminal and the - to the COM terminal of the desired zone. For multiple speakers, connect all + terminals together and all - terminals together (parallel). The total power of the speakers must not exceed 90% of the amplifier's power (about 108 W for a 120 W zone).
Can I power the PRM1202 with 24 V DC?
Yes, the PRM1202 has DC input terminals on the back (labeled DC INPUT + and -). You can connect it to a 24 VDC source (battery, external power supply) for mobile use (boat, fairground). Ensure correct polarity.
How to use the USB or SD player?
Insert a USB drive or SD card into the corresponding ports on the front panel. Press MODE to select USB or SD source. Use the Play/Pause, Previous, Next, Folder and Repeat buttons to control playback. MP3 files are supported.
What to do if the fuse blows?
First, disconnect the device from the mains. Open the fuse holder on the rear panel with a small screwdriver, remove the old fuse and replace it with a fuse of the same type and rating (see label). Replace the fuse holder. If the problem persists, consult a technician.
How to clean the PRM1202?
Use a dry cloth to clean the device. Never use chemicals, aerosols, or liquids, as they could damage the finish or cause a short circuit.
Can I repair the amplifier myself?
No, any repair must be carried out by a qualified technician only. Opening the case exposes you to dangerous voltages. Any unauthorized modification or repair voids the warranty.

DIP SWITCHES

MIC 3 / LINE 2 MIC 2 / LINE 1 Phantom VOX MIC OFF LINE ON

Adjacent to the XLR microphone input for channel 1 is a bank of 4 DIP switches (31). The right-hand switch is marked 'VOX', which sets priority for Mic.1. When this is switched on, any sound through Mic.1 will temporarily mute other inputs.

The next DIP switch enables +20V phantom power on the Mic.1 XLR input. Some condenser microphones require this phantom power to operate.

The 2 remaining DIP switches are used to set channels to Mic or Line level.

Noted: Be sure to make these DIP switch settings when the amplifier is switched off. Making any changes when the amplifier is powered up may cause loud bangs through the system which can damage the speakers.

SPEAKER OUTPUTS

ZONE 2 COM 8Ω 100V

The PRM1202 has a separate speaker output for each zone (25) connected via a single terminal block.

Each zone output can be used to power either 100V line speakers or 8Ω speakers.

These configurations cannot be used together, so it is important to decide which will be used at the start.

DC INPUT

DC INPUT + - 24Vit DC

The PRM1202 can be operated by 24Vdc power for mobile applications (boats, fairgrounds etc.) For this type of application, connect the 24Vdc power source to the DC input terminals on the rear panel (24).

CONNECTING WITH BT

Power Dynamics PRM1202 - CONNECTING WITH BT - 1

  1. Activate the BT-function on your device (Mobile phone, tablet etc.) from which you want to play the music. See the operating instructions for that device.
  2. Press the "BT" button and activate BT-function.
  3. Select "PRM-AMPLIFIER" on your BT-device and make the BT-connection

If password is required, you can enter "0000".

Attention: The BT distance is approx. 10 meter without any barrier.

100V SYSTEM

For 100V line systems, connect the amplifier to the first speaker in the system using double-insulated speaker wire which has adequate current rating to handle the total output of the amplifier.

Connect the “100V” output terminal to the positive (+) connection of the speaker and “COM” output to the negative (-) connection of the speaker. Connect further speakers in parallel to the first speaker with all positive terminals and connected together and all negative terminals connected together as shown below.

60W Amplifier 10W 10W 10W 10W 10W

A 100V line speaker system can comprise of many speakers connected together. The determining factor for how many speakers can be used on a single amplifier is the power rating. For most purposes, it is advised to connect as many speakers as needed with a combined wattage of no more than 90% of the amplifier's output power rating. The terminals of a 100V speaker are connected to a transformer and in some cases, this transformer may be "tapped" for different power ratings. These tapings can be used to adjust the wattage (and output volume) of each speaker in the system to help achieve the ideal total power of the system for the amplifier.

LOW IMPEDANCE SYSTEMS

Alternatively, each zone output of the PRM1202 can power a low impedance loudspeaker. There is an option on each zone for an 8Ω speaker output to determine the minimum impedance.

It is essential to select the correct output terminal when opting for low impedance speakers.

For a 8Ω speaker, connect the positive (+) wire to the "8Ω" terminal and the negative (-) wire to "COM"

Note: Lower impedance may cause irreparable damage to the amplifier.

The connected loudspeaker(s) must also have sufficient power to accept the zone output.

REPLACING THE FUSE

If the fuse is defective, replace the fuse with a fuse of the same type and value. Before replacing the fuse, unplug mains lead. Procedure:

Power Dynamics PRM1202 - REPLACING THE FUSE - 1

Step 1: Open the fuse holder on the rear panel with a fitting screwdriver.

Step 2: Remove the old fuse from the fuse holder.

Step 3: Install the new fuse in the fuse holder.

Step 4: Replace the fuse holder in the housing.
