What is the purpose of the Oregon Scientific Jumbo JW108?

The JW108 is a large format wall clock combining several functions: radio-controlled time display, indoor and outdoor thermometer (via included wireless sensor), barometer, and weather forecasts for 12 to 24 hours. It is suitable for both home and office use.

How is the time set on the JW108?

The clock automatically receives the radio-controlled signal (atomic signal) upon startup. It adjusts the time several times a day without any intervention. The transition to daylight saving time and back is also handled automatically.

The clock does not receive the radio signal, what should I do?

Place the clock near a window or away from electronic devices (TV, computer, microwave) that interfere with the signal. Reception is generally better at night. If the signal remains absent, you can set the time manually using the buttons on the back.

How to install the outdoor temperature sensor?

Insert 2 AAA batteries into the wireless sensor (provided), then place it outside within 30 meters of the main station, without any metal obstacles between the two. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and heat sources for accurate measurement.

The outdoor sensor is not sending data, how to resolve the issue?

First, check the sensor's batteries (2 AAA batteries) and replace them if necessary. Ensure the distance between the sensor and the clock does not exceed 30 meters and there are no thick obstacles (concrete wall, metal structure) between them. Reset the station by removing the clock's batteries for 30 seconds.

How to switch the display from Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Press the °C/°F button located on the back of the clock to toggle between the two units. The indoor measurement range is from -5°C to +50°C and the outdoor range is from -20°C to +60°C.

Are the weather forecasts reliable?

The weather icons are generated by the built-in barometer that analyzes atmospheric pressure changes over 12 to 24 hours. They indicate a trend (sunny, cloudy, rainy) but do not replace an official weather report. Rapid pressure changes may sometimes slightly offset the forecasts.

What batteries are needed and what is their lifespan?

The main station operates with 3 AA batteries. The outdoor sensor uses 2 AAA batteries. Under normal use, the batteries last several months. Prefer branded alkaline batteries for better autonomy, especially for the sensor exposed to outdoor temperatures.

Can the JW108 be mounted on the wall?

Yes, the clock is designed for wall mounting. Use the hanging slot on the back of the device and a screw suitable for the wall. Ensure the chosen position allows good reception of the radio signal and the wireless sensor.

Is the JW108 available in different colors?

Yes, the JW108A is available in black (JW108A-BK) and white (JW108A-WH). The functionalities are identical for both versions.

GETTING STARTED

INSERT BATTERIES

1. Remove the battery compartment.
2. Insert the batteries, matching the polarities (+/-).
3. Press RESET after each battery replacement.

REMOTE SENSOR

The main unit can collect data from up to 1 sensor.

To set up the sensor:

1. Open the battery compartment.
2. Press TX.
3. Close the battery door.
4. Place the sensor within 98 ft (30 m) of the main unit using the wall mount.

TIP Ideal placements for the sensor would be in any location on the exterior of the home at a height of not more than 5 ft (1.5 m) and which can shield it from direct sunlight or wet conditions for an accurate reading.

NOTE Use alkaline batteries for longer usage and consumer grade lithium batteries in temperatures below freezing.

SENSOR DATA TRANSMISSION

To search for a sensor:

Press and hold SENSOR. Press and hold again to stop searching.

The sensor reception icon in the remote sensor area shows the status:

TIP The transmission range may vary depending on many factors. You may need to experiment with various locations to get the best results.

NOTE It takes 2-10 minutes to receive the clock signal. If the signal is weak, it could take up to 24 hours to receive a valid signal.

To enable/disable signal reception:

Press and hold RCC.

SET THE CLOCK MANUALLY

1. Press and hold RCC in the battery compartment to disable the clock signal reception.
2. Press and hold Ⓤ.
3. Press +/- to change the settings.
4. Press Ⓛ to confirm.

5. Press once or press and hold +/- to adjust the setting. For EU/UK, the time-zone offset sets the clock up to +/- 23 hours from the received clock signal time. For US, the time-zone setting is 0 (P), 1 (M), 2 (C), 3 (E).

6. Press Ⓛ to confirm.

7. The settings order is: 12/24 hour format, hour, minute, year, calendar format (day-month/month-day), month, day and language.
8. Press once or press and hold +/- to adjust the setting.

NOTE The language options are English (E), Spanish (S), Italian (I), German (D) and French (F).

This product forecasts the next 12 hours of weather within a 19-31 mile (30-50 km) radius.

TEMPERATURE

To select temperature unit:

- Slide to °C or °F for temperature readings in the battery compartment of the main unit.

• Do not subject the unit to excessive force, shock, dust, temperature or humidity.
• Do not cover the ventilation holes with any items such as newspapers, curtains etc.
• Do not immerse the unit in water. If you spill liquid over it, dry it immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth.
• Do not clean the unit with abrasive or corrosive materials.
• Do not tamper with the unit's internal components. This invalidates the warranty.
• Only use fresh batteries. Do not mix new and old batteries.
• Images shown in this manual may differ from the actual display.
• When disposing of this product, ensure it is collected separately for special treatment and not as household waste.
• Placement of this product on certain types of wood may result in damage to its finish for which Oregon Scientific will not be responsible. Consult the furniture manufacturer's care instructions for information.
