Frequently Asked Questions - Vacuum Berkel

What to do if the device does not work?
Check the power connection and that the cable is not damaged. Make sure the light window lights up. If the problem persists, consult the complete manual.
How to make a bag from a roll?
Use the roll holder compartment (11) and the Magic Cutter knife. Cut the desired length, then make a first seal before vacuuming.
Why is the vacuum not complete in the bag?
Check for leaks: the sealing gasket (7) must be clean and properly positioned. If the bag is punctured, use another bag.
How to program the marinade cycle?
Place the food and marinade in a Family container. Leave the handle in OPEN position during the cycle. At the end of the cycle, turn the handle to CLOSED to maintain the vacuum.
What containers can I use?
Use only original Berkel containers (Executive, Family, universal lids). Other containers may implode under vacuum.
How to clean the machine?
Always unplug the device. Wash the removable tray in the dishwasher. Do not use harsh detergents or solvents. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth.
Can vacuum-packed foods be stored at room temperature?
No, unless otherwise indicated. Perishable foods must be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Vacuum sealing extends shelf life but does not replace the cold chain.
What to do if the bag does not seal properly?
Check the sealing mode (2M): increase the sealing time if necessary. Make sure the sealing bar is clean and the bag is properly positioned.
How to thaw a vacuum-sealed food?
Place the sealed bag in cold water or in the refrigerator. Do not heat in the sealed bag without opening it, as microorganisms may develop.
Where to find spare parts?
Sealing gaskets, containers and original accessories are available from authorized Berkel dealers. Use only original parts to ensure proper operation.

IMPORTANT: Keep perishable foods in the freezer or fridge. Vacuum packing extends the life of food, but does not turn it into a “preserve”, i.e. a stable product at ambient temperature.

Important: you must consume immediately any food which has been heated while still sealed in bags. Leaving the food to cool slowly at room temperature in the sealed vacuum bag may cause several harmful micro-organisms to multiply, in just a few hours, to values that are health-threatening.
