WARNING! Read all safety notices, instructions, illustrations and technical data that have been provided with this
power tool. Omissions in the compliance with safety directions and instructions can cause electrical shock, fire and/or severe injuries.
Retain all safety directions and instructions for future use.
The term „power tool“ in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool).
1) WORK AREA SAFETY
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2) ELECTRICAL SAFETY
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operation of the power tool in a damp environment is unavoidable, please use a residual current circuitry. The use of a residual current circuitry reduces the risk of an electric shock.
3) PERSONAL SAFETY
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention white operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to
power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If dust extraction and collection devices can be installed, make sure that these are connected and used correctly. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h) Do not allow yourself to be lulled into a false sense of security and do not disregard the safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the power tool after using it many times. Careless action can lead to serious injuries within a fraction of a second.
4) POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Remove the plug from the wall socket and/or remove the rechargeable battery before you change the device's settings, change accessory parts or put away the power tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Look after the power tool and application tool carefully. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles and grip surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and
grease. Slippery handles and grip surfaces do not permit safe operation and control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
5) CAREFUL HANDLING AND USE OF BATTERY DEVICES
a) Charge the batteries only in chargers that are recommended by the manufacturer. Risk of fire if a charger that is suitable for a specific type of battery is used with other batteries.
b) In the power tools, use only the batteries designed for the purpose. The use of other batteries may result in injuries and risk of fire.
c) Keep the unused battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects, which could cause bridging of the contacts. A short circuit between the battery contacts may cause burns or fire.
d) If used incorrectly, liquid may leak from the battery. Avoid contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse off with water. If the liquid gets into eyes, seek medical assistance. Leaking battery fluid may cause skin irritations or burns.
e) Do not use damaged or altered batteries. Damaged or altered batteries can be unpredictable and lead to fire, explosion or risk of injury.
f) Do not expose batteries to fire or elevated temperatures. Fire or temperatures over 130 °C can cause an explosion.
g) Follow all instructions for charging and never charge the battery or the battery-powered tool
outside the temperature range stated in the operating instructions. Incorrect charging or charging outside the permitted temperature range may destroy the battery and increase the risk of fire.
6) SERVICE
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
b) Never repair damaged batteries. All battery repairs should be carried out by the manufacturer or authorised customer service centres only.

Working instructions

Work safely, giving due consideration to the next steps!
- When strimming, pay attention to country-specific regulations and/or those of your local municipality.
- Do not do strimming work during general rest periods.
- Solid items such as stones, metal parts and similar are to be removed. These can be ejected and lead to personal injury or damage to property.
- When strimming high bushes or hedges, the working height should be at least 15cm. This means that animals like hedgehogs are not put at risk.
• Always hold the device tightly and securely with both hands!
- Only cut grass and weeds! Watch out for roots or tree stumps, there is a risk of tripping.
• Work carefully and do not endanger anyone while you are strimming.
- You should only work in good lighting conditions with sufficient visibility!
- Keep an eye on the cutting head!
• Never trim above shoulder height!
- Never replace the plastic cord with steel wire - risk of injury and destruction!
• Never work on a ladder!
• Only work on firm and stable surfaces!
- Avoid an abnormal work posture. Ensure that your footing is secure and keep your balance at all times.
- Change your working position at regular intervals in order to prevent becoming tired on one side of your body.
- If the cutting head becomes jammed, turn the device off immediately, remove the spark plug connector and then remove the cause of the blockage.
Adjusting the shoulder strap eyelet/balancing out the device
Select the correct position for the shoulder strap eyelet for the spool and blade. Without touching it by hand, the device attached to the shoulder strap should be as follows
① The spool should rest lightly on the ground.
② The blade should be balanced around 20 cm above the ground.
- Loosen the screw on the shoulder strap eyelet (12). Slightly tighten the screw again.
- Depending on the cutting tool, balance the device according to the criteria mentioned above by moving the eyelet (12) along the upper shaft tube (3).
- Tighten the screw when the device is in the desired position.
Working using the thread spool
- In small grass areas hold the device at an angle of about 30^ and swing the cutting head evenly to the right and left with a semi-circular movement.
- The best results are obtained with a maximum grass length of 15 cm. If the grass is taller, it is recommended to mow several times.
- To cut around trees, fence posts or other obstacles, slowly move the device around the obstacle and cut with the thread ends.
- Avoid any contact with fixed obstacles (rocks, walls, picket fences, etc.). The thread would wear out quickly. Use the edge of the protective cover to keep the device at the correct distance.

Attention! Do not lay the cutting head on the ground during operation!

Extending the line
Your device is equipped with a dual-line auto-tap feature, i.e. the two strings are extended when you tap the cutting head on the ground.
- Hold the device in operation over a grassy area and lightly tap the cutting
GB IE
head a few times on the ground. This causes the thread to lengthen.
- The line cutter (26) inserted into the protective cover (7) cuts the line to the desired length.
If the line ends cannot be lengthened:
- Turn off the device.
- Press the spool insert as far as it will go and pull firmly on the end of the string.
If no line ends are visible:
- Replace the spool (see chapter on 'Replacing/mounting the spool').

Attention! Thread remnants can be projected and lead to injuries.
Working with the 2-tooth blade
Always wear the shoulder strap and suitable protective clothing when working with the device. Wear eye, hearing and head protection.
Ensure that the blade is installed correctly. Replace damaged or blunt tool parts.
There is a risk of injury.

Only use the cutting blade to work on open, even areas. Carefully inspect the area to be cut and remove all foreign bodies. Avoid hitting stones, metal or other obstacles. The blade can be damaged and there is a risk of kickback by the device.
- When working, hold the cutting head above the ground and slowly swivel the device back and forth like a scythe in an equal arch.
- Do not hold the cutting head at an angle.
- Do not use the device to cut wild growth or brushwood.
- Regularly check the blades for damage and replace as needed.
Recommended speed settings: low/med: Grass / Lawn high: Scrub / Thicket
If the device vibrates
Clean the device and remove any grass residue in the cutting head and protective cover (see the chapter on 'Maintenance and Care')
Cleaning and maintenance

Warning! Risk of injury from moving dangerous parts!

• After every trimming session, remove grass and soil from the protective cover and the trimming assembly.
- Be careful with the line cutter. It can cause serious lacerations.
Winding up the spool
As an alternative to a new spool, you can purchase a 2.4 mm-thick, 5 m-long nylon thread in specialist shops and wind this yourself onto the spool.
- Pull the new line through both line outlet loops (32) of the spool cap (15).
- Make a longitudinal adjustment with both ends of the line so that the spool cap (15) is positioned at about the centre.
- Turn the rotary knob (15a) in the direction of the arrow indicated on the bottom of the spool cap (15) to wind the line onto the spool (33).
General maintenance work
- Check the appliance before each use for obvious defects such as loose, worn or damaged parts.
- Check the covers and protective devices for damage and correct fi t. Replace these if necessary.
Check the line cutter (26). Never use the device without a line cutter or with a defective line cutter. If the line cutter is damaged, be sure to contact one of our customer service centres.
Removing blockages

Switch the device off and remove both batteries before you work on the cutting unit.

Wear protective gloves in order to avoid cutting yourself.
Transport
- When it is being transported, the device must be switched off and the batteries removed.
- Carry the device with one hand on the upper shaft tube and the other hand on the lower shaft tube (3+6), in order to avoid coming into contact with dangerous parts when transporting it (e.g. hot engine, cutting unit).
- When transporting the blade, use the transport protection.
- Maintain a safe distance from other people when transporting the device.
Storage
- Store the trimmer in a dry place well out of reach of children.
- Do not stand the trimmer on its protective cover. Suspend it by its upper handle in such a manner that the protective cover does not come into contact with other objects. This is because the pro-
GB IE
tective cover could become deformed, thereby changing its dimensions and its safety properties.
- The storage temperature for the rechargeable battery and the device is between 4 °C and 40 °C. Avoid extreme cold or heat during storage to ensure the battery output is not adversely affected.
Disposal and protection of the environment
Remove the rechargeable battery before disposing of the device.
The device, accessories and packaging should be properly recycled.
Instruction on how to dispose of the rechargeable battery can be found in the separate instruction manual for your battery and charger.
