2.4 Noise emission specifications

The values stated are emission levels. Although there is a correlation between emission and imission level, it cannot be reliably derived from this whether additional precautions are necessary. Factors influencing the current immission level existing at the workplace comprise the duration of exposure, the room characteristic, other source of noise, etc. such as e.g. the number of machines and other adjacent machining operations. In addition, the permissible immission level may differ from country to country. This information is nevertheless suitable for providing the machine user with an improved assessment of the hazard and risk.

2.7 Use according to intended purpose

The drill driver A10 M is suitable for drilling in metal, wood, plastic and similar materials as well as for screwing and tapping.

Any other use than described above is not permissible. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage arising from such other use.

In order to use the appliance as intended, you must comply with the operating, maintenance and repair instructions specified by MAFELL.

Corrective maintenance work must be carried out by MAFELL authorised dealers or MAFELL customer service stations.

The safety instructions applicable in the respective country of use as well as other generally recognised rules pertaining to safety and occupational health must be observed.

Unauthorized changes to the appliance shall rule out any manufacturer liability for damages resulting thereof.

3 Safety instructions

Danger

Electrical appliances may be dangerous if used incorrectly. Therefore, always observe the safety instructions summarised in this chapter and the safety regulations applicable in the respective country of use!

• Wear ear protectors during the use of drill drivers. Exposure to noise can cause loss of hearing.
• Always hold the appliance by the insulated gripping surfaces when carrying out work during which the bit may hit concealed power lines. Contact with a live power line may also energize metal parts of the appliance, thus causing an electric shock.
• Convince yourself that no power, water or gas lines are located at the point where work is to be carried out (e.g. with the aid of a metal detector).
• Protect the rechargeable batteries from humidity!

• Do not throw the rechargeable batteries into a fire!

• Do not use any defective or deformed rechargeable batteries!

• Do not open the rechargeable batteries!
• Do not touch the contacts of the rechargeable batteries and do not short-circuit them!
• A slightly acidic, combustible liquid may leak from defective li-ion rechargeable batteries! If any battery liquid is leaking and comes in contact with the skin, immediately rinse with a copious amount of water. If any battery liquid gets into your eyes, rinse with clean water and immediately consult a doctor for medical treatment!
• Remove the rechargeable batteries from the machine before carrying out any setting, retooling, maintenance or cleaning tasks.
• Ensure that the machine is switched off when you push in the rechargeable battery.
• Dust originating from materials such as leaded paint, some types of wood, minerals and metal can be harmful to health. Touching or inhaling these dusts can cause allergic reactions and/or respiratory disorders in the user or persons staying in the vicinity.
• Certain dusts such as oak or beech dust are considered as carcinogenic, especially in conjunction with additives for wood treatment (chromate, wood preservative). Asbestos-containing material may only be machined by specialists.
• As far as possible, make use of a dust extraction system.
• Provide for good ventilation of the workplace.
• It is recommended to wear a respirator mask with filter class P2.
• Observe the regulations valid in your country for the materials to be machined.
• Secure the workpiece against shifting, e. g. by means of fastening devices.
• LED light (14): Do not directly look at the LED radiation with optical instruments.

5 Operation

5.1 Capacity indicator

(Fig. 1)

• Charge the rechargeable battery prior to use.
• Recharge the rechargeable battery in case of loss of power.
• The optimum storage temperature is between 10 °C and 30 °C.

5.2 Removing and inserting the rechargeable battery

(See Fig. 2)

Actuate the switch slider (4) only when the motor is standing still!

5.5 Adjusting the drilling settings

(Fig. 4)

• Set the torque with torque control by turning the adjusting ring (3). Intermediate positions are possible.
• = Setting the drilling level (max. torque, without torque control). To prevent a motor overload, do not block the spindle.

5.6 Switching on/off, setting the speed

(Fig. 1)

Switching on: Press the switch trigger (8). The speed at the switch trigger can be changed by the depth to which it is depressed.

Switching off: Release the switch trigger (8).

5.7 Quick-release chuck

(Fig. 5)

• Detaching: Pull the locking ring forward and pull off the chuck to the front.
• Attaching: Pull the locking ring forward and push the chuck onto the drilling spindle up to the limit stop. (If necessary, turn the chuck slightly to and fro.)

5.8 Belt clip

(Fig. 6)

Attaching: Push the belt clip together so that you can insert it in the opening on the motor casing. Push the belt clip that far into the opening until it clearly engages. Push the red slide bar in direction of the motor casing end and around the belt clip radius (stiff) so that it engages in the motor casing. With that the belt clip is securely fastened.

Detaching: Proceed in the reverse order as described above.

The belt clip can be attached on both sides.

5.9 Bit adapter

(Fig. 1)

One screwdriver bit can be accommodated in the bit adapter (11).

5.10 LED light

(Fig. 1)

The LED light (2) is switched on and off via the main switch.

5.11 Angle attachment

With the angle attachment (Fig. 7) you can carry out screwing and drilling tasks at right angles to the screwdriver axis. It is possible to set angles at 30^ increments to the screwdriver axis.

Detaching: Pull the locking ring forward and pull off the angle attachment to the front.

Attaching: Pull the locking ring forward and push the angle attachment up to the limit stop onto the drilling spindle (if necessary, turn the angle attachment lightly to and fro).

6 Service and maintenance

Danger

Unplug the rechargeable battery for all service work.

MAFELL machines are designed to be low in maintenance.

Always keep the appliance clean.

Should the appliance fail despite thorough manufacturing and testing procedures, the repair must be carried out by an authorised customer service station for MAFELL electrical tools.

Store the appliance in a dry and frost-proof place.

Only use MAFELL accessories and spare parts. Have components, the replacement of which has not been described, replaced at a MAFELL customer service station.

6.1 Storage

If the machine is not used for a longer period of time, it has to be carefully cleaned. Spray bright metal parts with a rust inhibitor.

6.2 Transport

The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements. The user can transport the batteries by road without further requirements.

When being transported by third parties (e.g.: air transport or forwarding agency), special requirements on packaging and labelling must be observed. For preparation of the item being shipped, consulting an expert for hazardous material is required.

Dispatch batteries only when the housing is undamaged. Tape or mask off open contacts and pack up the battery in such a manner that it cannot move around in the packaging.

Please also observe possibly more detailed national regulations.

6.3 Disposal of rechargeable batteries/batteries

The machine, rechargeable batteries, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environmental-friendly recycling.

Do not dispose of power tools and batteries/rechargeable batteries into household waste!

Only for EC countries:

According to the European Guideline 2002/96/EC, power tools that are no longer usable, and according to the European Guideline 2006/66/EC, defective or used battery packs/batteries, must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally correct manner.

7 Troubleshooting

Danger

Determining the causes for existing defects and eliminating these always requires increased attention and caution.

If the machine switches off automatically, the electronic system has activated self-protection mode. Despite this protective function, overload and as a consequence damage to the machine may occur during certain applications.

Some of the most frequent defects and their causes are listed in the following chart. In case of other defects, contact your dealer or the MAFELL customer service.

Rechargeable battery almost empty	Electronic system protects the rechargeable battery from deep discharge.	If only one LED is still glowing, recharge the rechargeable battery.Only one LED is still glowing.Charge the rechargeable battery.
Overload, machine switches off.	A sustained load has overheated the machine or the rechargeable battery. A warning signal is sounded (constant bleeping).This sound stops after max. 30 seconds or when the switch trigger is released (15).	Allow the machine and the rechargeable battery to cool down. Machine switches off in case of excessive load.	An excessive current rating, such as occurs during a longer lasting blockage, will cause the machine to switch off.	Switch off the machine by releasing the switch trigger (15). Afterwards, you can switch the machine back on again and resume work as normal.Try to avoid further blockages.

This is not valid for consumables and wearing parts. For this purpose, the machine or the appliance is to be forwarded freight paid to our plant or to an authorized MAFELL repair service. Refrain from trying to carry out the repairs yourself as otherwise your warranty claim will become extinct. We do not accept any liability for any damage resulting from improper handling or normal wear.
