Frequently Asked Questions - ZONE 423 LD Systems

How to connect a microphone to the ZONE 423?
Connect your microphone to the MIC 1 or MIC 2 input using an XLR or 6.35mm jack cable (balanced). Activate the input by pressing the corresponding ON button. Adjust the GAIN for optimal level. The microphone inputs have 12V phantom power, ideal for electret microphones.
How to use the USB port to record or play audio?
Connect the ZONE 423 to a computer via the rear USB port. The mixer appears as 'USB Audio CODEC'. For playback, select the USB source on INPUT 1 (USB/LINE button in USB position). For recording, the mixed output signal is sent to the computer. Compatible with Mac OS X (10.5+) and Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) without driver.
How does the Talkover function work?
The Talkover function automatically attenuates the music sources (inputs 1 to 4) when a microphone signal is present. Turn the TALKOVER potentiometer to the right to increase attenuation. Adjust the sensitivity with the T/O LEVEL potentiometer on the rear. This function is active on Master and Zone outputs if the Zone source is in MIX mode.
How to set up the Zone output for separate distribution?
Use the ZONE SOURCE selector on the front panel to choose the source for the Zone output: mix of all inputs (MIX) or a specific input (IN2, IN3 or IN4). Adjust the level with ZONE LEVEL and adjust the equalization with the ZONE EQ HI and ZONE EQ LOW potentiometers. Activate the 100 Hz high-pass filter or mono mode if necessary.
How to connect an emergency announcement system?
Connect the emergency source to the EMERGENCY INPUT (Eurobloc). As soon as a signal is detected on this input, all other inputs are muted and the emergency signal is sent directly to the Master and Zone outputs, regardless of volume settings. Adjust the level with the internal LEVEL EMERGENCY INPUT potentiometer.
How to use the Mute function via a dry contact?
Connect a switch or controller to the OUTPUT MUTE input (Eurobloc). When the contact is closed, all input channels are muted (except the Emergency input). The Mute function only affects the Master output. Use it to mute the sound remotely.
What is the difference between the Master and Zone outputs?
The Master output delivers the full mix of all inputs and serves as the main output. The Zone output can be configured to broadcast a different mix or a single independent source, with its own equalization and limiting. This allows you to sound multiple zones separately.
How to replace the fuse?
Unplug the device from the mains. The fuse holder is integrated into the IEC socket. Open it and replace the fuse with an identical model: T 500 mAL / 250 V. If the new fuse blows again, contact an authorized service center.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes, use INPUT 2 or INPUT 3 in PHONO mode. Press the PHONO/LINE selector on the rear to activate the phono preamp. Connect the turntable to the corresponding RCA jacks. Don't forget to connect the ground terminal if necessary.
How to clean the ZONE 423?
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the surface. Never spray liquid directly onto the device. Unplug it before cleaning. Avoid solvents or abrasive products.

USB

The USB-interface (USB 1.1) allows for the mixer to be used as an audio interface. In other words, audio recording and playback can be done through a connected computer with Windows Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8) and Apple Macintosh OS 10.5 or higher. Separate drivers are not necessary for the installation. Once connected to a suitable USB port on your computer (USB 1.1, USB 2.0), the drivers are automatically installed, the audio interface is detected as "USB Audio CODEC" interface on both Windows and Apple Macintosh computers.

The recording signal consists of the sum signal and is sourced before the master level control and the max level control, and is therefore independent of it. Audio playback is via the line channel INPUT 1. For this, the switch 55 must be pressed on the back panel (USB) and the switch 8 (LINE) on the front of the unit should not be pressed.

During the Limited Warranty Period, Adam Hall will repair or replace the defective component parts or the product. In the event of repair or replacement during the Limited Warranty Period, the replaced original parts and/or products become property of Adam Hall.

MANUFACTURER'S DECLARATIONS:

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

If your Adam Hall branded hardware product fails to work as warranted above, your sole and exclusive remedy shall be repair or replacement. Adam Halls' maximum liability under this limited warranty is expressly limited to the lesser of the price you have paid for the product or the cost of repair or replacement of any components that malfunction under conditions of normal use.

Adam Hall is not liable for any damages caused by the product or the failure of the product, including any lost profits or savings or special, incidental, or consequential damages. Adam Hall is not liable for any claim made by a third party or made by you for a third party.

This limitation of liability applies whether damages are sought, or claims are made, under this Limited Warranty or as a tort claim (including negligence and strict product liability), a contract claim, or any other claim, and cannot be rescinded or changed by anyone. This limitation of liability will be effective even if you have advised Adam Hall or an authorized representative of Adam Hall of the possibility of any such damages, but not, however, in the event of claims for damages in connection with personal injuries.

This manufacturer's warranty grants you specific rights; depending on jurisdiction (nation or state), you may be entitled to additional claims. You are advised to consult applicable state or national laws for a full determination of your rights.
