Wella Contura - DANGER: - 1

  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) who have limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or who lack the necessary experience and knowledge, unless they receive appropriate supervision or instruction in the use of the appliance from a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

  • Keep the appliance out of reach of children.

  • Also keep the packaging material, e.g. plastic film, away from children.

  • Lay the power cord so that nobody can trip over or tread on it.

  • Protect the power cord from damage. Never pull on the power cord. When pulling the mains adapter out of the power socket, always grasp the adapter itself. Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces. Check the power cord regularly for damage.
  • The blade head is a precision part. Take care to protect it from damage.
  • Do not expose the appliance to temperatures below 0^ or above + 40°C for any length of time. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
  • To avoid risks, repairs must only be carried out by authorised Wella Customer Service Centres. This also applies to replacing the rechargeable battery.

Safety during operation

Wella Contura - Safety during operation - 1

CAUTION:

  • When the appliance is switched on, do not touch the inside or surface of the blade.

The appliance must be switched off whenever:
- you put it down, e.g. to recharge it or stop cut
ting hair for a short period.
- you fit or remove the comb attachment.
- Use the Contura only in combination with the original Wella accessories (charging unit, comb attachment etc.).

NOTE:

  • To maintain the charging capacity of the rechargeable battery we recommend occasionally running the battery down until the motor stops.

Cleaning, care and storage

Wella Contura - Cleaning, care and storage - 1

DANGER:

  • The appliance must be switched off and unplugged if:

  • you want to clean or oil the appliance.

  • Never attempt to remove dust or foreign bodies from inside the appliance with pointed objects (e.g. with the tail of a comb).

CAUTION:

  • To avoid excessive wear on blade head and motor, clean the blade head regularly and apply oil to the appropriate points (See "Cleaning and care" on page 29).
  • Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaning products to clean the appliance.
  • In view of the many different care and cleaning products used in hairdressing salons, we cannot rule out the possibility that the rubber feet under the charging unit may be affected by one of these products and may leave traces where the unit has been standing.

2 Preparation

2.1 Charging

The appliance as supplied is not yet ready for operation.

Before plugging in the Contura, make sure that the mains voltage agrees with the voltage specified on the rating plate.

The appliance should be charged for 2 hours before being used for the first time.

It is not possible to "overcharge" the appliance.

NOTE:

If your salon uses the previous model as well as the new Contura:

  • You can also recharge the new trimmer in the older charging unit. It will however take 16 hours to charge up fully.
  • You can recharge the old trimmer in the new charging unit. The charging time is 16 hours.

Wella Contura - NOTE: - 1

  • Insert the mains adapter 8 in a power socket.
  • Place the charging unit 2 on a flat surface.

  • Place the appliance in the charging unit. It positions itself and starts charging. The red charging indicator 1 is always on when the appliance is charging. Make sure the On/Off switch 4 is in the O position when charging.

To maintain the charging capacity of the rechargeable battery we recommend occasionally running the battery down until the motor stops.

2.2 Storing the power cord

Wella Contura - Storing the power cord - 1

If you do not need the full length of the power cord, part of it can be stored in the cable storage compartment 9.

  1. Pull out the mains plug.
  2. Turn the charging unit upside down.

  3. Wind the excess cable round the holder in the base, then run the cable through the small recess in the housing to the outside.

3 Operation

3.1 Switching On and Off

Wella Contura - Switching On and Off - 1

  • To switch the appliance on, slide the On/Off switch 4 forward.
  • To switch the appliance off, slide the On/Off switch to position 0.

3.2 Comb attachment

Wella Contura - Comb attachment - 1

  • Switch off the Contura and slide the comb attachment onto the blade head until it snaps into place.
  • You can now start trimming hair with the Contura in the usual way.

Wella Contura - Comb attachment - 2

  • The comb attachment can be adjusted to 4 different cutting lengths (approx. 3 to 6 mm). To do so, push it to the required position on the blade head.

The further you push the comb attachment onto the blade head, the shorter the cutting length.

4 Cleaning and care

To ensure proper functioning and full performance from your Contura, clean and oil the appliance regularly.

Cleaning the blade head

If used regularly, the blade head 5 should be thoroughly cleaned once a day.

  • Switch the appliance off.
  • Remove the comb attachment if fitted.
  • Use the cleaning brush 12 to remove any hairs.

Oiling the blade head

To maintain the high-quality cutting performance of the blade head as long as possible, it must be oiled regularly - preferably daily.

Wella Contura - Oiling the blade head - 1

Remove the comb attachment if fitted.

  • Oil the positions where the top and bottom cutting blades meet (see also the figure on the left).

Replacing the blade head

The blade head is subject to wear. Even if you look after the appliance properly, the cutting performance will deteriorate. Replace the blade head when it is worn. The blade head can be ordered separately as a spare part from Wella Customer Service.

Wella Contura - Replacing the blade head - 1

  • Make sure the On/Off switch 4 is in the O position.
  • Remove the Allen key 13 from the base of the charging unit and use it to loosen the blade head screw 6.

Wella Contura - Replacing the blade head - 2

  • Loosen the screw fully and remove it.
  • Push the blade head upwards with your thumb.
  • Push the new blade head on until it snaps into place and secure it using the screw.

While the blade head is removed, you can use the cleaning brush 12 to remove residual hair carefully from inside the appliance.

Cleaning the appliance

  • Clean your appliance occasionally with a damp cloth, then wipe it dry.

Cleaning the charging contacts

If the charging contacts 7 on the appliance or the charging contacts 3 on the charging unit are dirty, charging may not be possible or may be interrupted.
- Clean the contacts using a cloth or wad of cotton wool soaked in alcohol or spirit.

Care of the NiMH rechargeable battery

To maintain the charging capacity of the rechargeable battery we recommend occasionally running the battery down until the motor stops.

If the battery is run down (motor stops), be sure to switch the On/Off switch 4 to 0 and place the appliance in the charging unit.

  • Make sure you do not leave the appliance switched on when putting it aside if the battery is run down.
  • Make sure the appliance is switched off (On/Off switch to 0) when you place it in the charging unit.

5 What should I do if ...

... the appliance will not switch on?

Is the battery low? Plug in the mains adapter for the charging unit and recharge the Contura. Make sure the On/Off switch is in the O position.
- Is the blade head dry? The blade head needs oiling. Proceed as described on Page 30.

... the blade head "sticks"?

  • The blade head needs oiling. Proceed as described on Page 30.

... the charging indicator does not light up when charging?

  • Clean the charging contacts.
  • The appliance may not be positioned correctly in the charging unit. Position it correctly.
  • Is the charging unit properly connected?

... the charging indicator flashes during charging?

The appliance is in the charging unit of the previous model. The appliance will take 16 hours to charge up. You can recognise the new charging unit by its darker colour.

... the appliance switches itself off? - The battery is low. Charge the Contura.
