Frequently Asked Questions - HP Steto Digital MELICONI

How to charge the headphone?
Place the headphone on the base (transmitter) aligning the charging contacts. The red LED on the base lights up to confirm charging and turns off when the battery is full. The first charge must last 4 to 5 hours, subsequent charges about 1h30 to 2h00.
What cables are provided with the headphone?
The package contains: an optical TOSLINK cable, a 3.5 mm audio cable, a USB power adapter (5V 1A) with a micro USB cable, as well as the base and headphone.
How to connect the headphone to my television?
Use the optical TOSLINK cable if your TV has a digital optical output, or the 3.5 mm/RCA cable for an analog output. Connect the cable to the corresponding input on the base (OPTICAL IN for optical, JACK or RCA for analog) and set the selector on the base (Optical or RCA/3.5mm). Turn on the TV, then the headphone (press and hold the power button).
What to do if the headphone produces no sound?
Check that the cables are properly connected, that the base is powered (green LED on) and that the headphone is on (blue LED). If using the optical input, make sure your TV's audio output is set to PCM (or LPCM). Try moving closer to the base and check that the input selector is in the correct position.
What is the maximum range of the headphone?
The maximum range is 30 meters in open field (no obstacles). Walls and other obstacles may reduce this distance.
How to change the audio equalization mode?
Press the Audio Mode button (button C on the headphone) repeatedly to switch between the three modes: Normal (base LED off), Music (orange LED), Movie (blue LED).
Can I use the headphone with a computer?
Yes, connect the base to the computer's audio output via the 3.5 mm cable or an optical cable if available. Make sure the selector is on the correct input and that the computer's volume is adequate.
How to turn off the headphone and base?
To turn off the headphone, hold the power button (A) for 5 seconds. The base turns off automatically after 5 minutes without an audio signal (the green LED goes off). To save power, unplug the power adapter if you are not using the headphone for a long time.
What to do if the headphone and base do not pair?
Make sure the headphone is charged and on (blue LED). Move close to the base. If the base LED blinks continuously, try resetting the pairing: turn off the headphone, unplug and replug the base adapter, then turn on the headphone again. Pairing should occur automatically.
Can I replace the headphone battery?
The battery is built-in and not user replaceable. For any intervention, contact a qualified professional or the after-sales service. Follow disposal instructions at end of life.

Thank you for purchasing a Meliconi product.

The digital HP Steto Digital Meliconi wireless stereo headphone system uses 2.4 GHz digital wireless audio transmission technology, allowing you to hear quality stereo sound from the most common audio playback devices up to a range of 20 metres (in free field), thus giving you maximum freedom of movement. The base of the headphones (the transmitter) can be connected to the appropriate output on the TV (where present) using an optical digital audio cable (TOSLINK). The traditional audio cable with 3.5mm jack can be used to connect the transmitter to the TV (if the TV does not have a TOSLINK socket), or to any other analogue audio source (DVD / CD / HIFI / PC, etc.).

The actual headphones (the receiver) are also equipped with a front microphone that can be activated by pressing the MIC button. This allows you to stop listening to the source device and to hear the voices around you.

CONNECTION TO AUDIO SOURCE (after charging the BATTERIES)

  • Before making any connections, ensure that the devices are switched off
  • Remove the headphones from the charging dock.
  • Identify the optical digital audio output on the TV or on the device you wish to connect.
  • Take the TOSLINK optical cable (6) provided, and remove the silicone protections at the ends.
  • Use the TOSLINK cable to connect the optical audio output of the TV to the input "V" (OPTICAL IN) on the base.
  • If the TV does not have an optical output, use the 3.5mm stereo audio cable jack (5) and connect the headphone output of the TV to the input "Z" (AUDIO IN) on the base.
  • Switch on the TV or other device.
  • Wait for a minute and check that the green LED "P" on the base remains lit, indicating an incoming audio signal.

WARNING: If the LED remains off, or is flashing: if it is connected to the TV with an optical cable, go to the menu of the TV, activate the optical audio output and select the audio format PCM. For analogue collections (with 3.5 mm jack), turn up the volume on the TV.

  • Remaining close to the base, switch on the headphones by moving the switch "A" to ON and checking that the green signal reception LED "B" remains lit.
  • Put on the headphones and turn the wheel "C" to adjust the volume and obtain correct reproduction of the sounds, also using, if necessary, the balancing control button "F" on the back of the headphones.
  • If the headphones fail to reproduce the sound, or if there is audio interference, please refer to the "TROUBLESHOOTING" section.

Use

Use the ON/OFF switch "A" (ON/OFF) on the headphones only to switch them on and off.

If there is no incoming audio signal, the transmitter base will switch off automatically.

To adjust listening volume, use only the wheel "C" on the headphones, and not the volume of the TV

After switching off the headphones, place them back in the charging slot "M" on the base, making sure the LED "Q" comes on. This will ensure they are already charged the next time you use them.

If the headphones are not being used for a long period of time it is advisable to disconnect the AC power adapter from the power outlet.

MICROPHONE: The HP Steto Digital headphones have a built-in microphone: it is sufficient to press the "D" (MIC) button to stop listening to the audio signal from the device connected and to amplify the voices and sounds around you; the "B" light will come on red when the MIC is active. To resume normal listening of the source connected to the headphones, press the MIC button again; the "B" light will turn green again.

Recharging the batteries

To recharge the batteries, move the on/off switch "A" of the headphones to OFF and place them back on the base, making sure the LED "Q" lights up.

The LED "Q" is red while charging; it will turn green when the battery is fully charged. The charge can last for up to 3 hours.

A spare battery is supplied for prolonged use. Just insert it into the slot "S" on the base to charge it. While the spare battery is charging, the LED "R" is lit red. It will turn green when the battery is fully charged.

With a fully charged battery, the headphones are guaranteed to work for at least 4 hours.

The headphones can be left charging on the base even for several days.

WARNING:

When the headphones are not being used, it is advisable to switch them off to avoid running down the batteries and damaging them.

Make sure the slider "A" is moved to OFF while the batteries are charging.

IMPORTANT:

Always comply with the regulations in force for disposing of the product.

Tone selection

On the base (transmitter), you can select the audio listening tone from 4 different settings,

by pressing the (XX) button on the base in sequence. The selections can be viewed with 3 yellow LEDs "N" "1, 2, 3" as in the table shown below.

  • LEDs off: standard tone
  • LED 1 lit: enhancement of high and low tones

Troubleshooting

Make sure the AC power supply is fully inserted into the mains socket, and that the cable is correctly connected to the DC IN connector of the transmitter.

  • Make sure the connectors of the audio cable used (optical or analogue) are correctly connected to the pertinent sockets.
  • Make sure the batteries are charged, recharging them if necessary.
  • If the audio feed has been connected using a digital optical cable (Toslink), check that the audio output of your appliance (e.g. TV or decoder) is set to "PCM" or "LPCM". To do this correctly, consult the instruction manual of your TV or decoder.
  • If the audio connection is made using a stereo audio jack cable, make sure the device connected plays back the audio correctly (even with the cable disconnected), and check that the green light "P" on the base remains lit. If necessary, increase the output volume on the device.
  • Turn the wheel "C" on the headphones to adjust the sound to the desired level.
  • Check you have not inadvertently activated environmental sound listening; if so, you can deactivate it by pressing the "MIC" button (the light "B" must be green).
  • The headphones (receiver) may be too far from the base (transmitter). Move closer to it.

If the headphones (receiver) are not PAIRED with the base (transmitter) - the green LED B must be flashing. Pair as follows:

  1. Make sure the base (transmitter) and the receiver (headphones) are both switched off, and that the headphones are not inserted into the base.
  2. Switch off the headphones (receiver).
  3. Hold the MIC button down for about 5 seconds; the green LED B will flash quickly
  4. Switch off the base (transmitter).
  5. The headphones (receiver) and the base (transmitter) will pair automatically, and after a few seconds, the green LED
  6. B of the headphones stops flashing and remains lit.
