General information

  • There is a water level indicator on the water reservoir and on the jug, to help with measuring the amount of fresh water. The water level indicator is based on normal-sized cups, holding a volume of about 125ml . Do not fill higher than the specified maximum number of cups.
  • If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let the appliance cool down for approx. 5 minutes.
  • Important: When filling with fresh water shortly after the brewing process, hot steam may escape from the water outlet (risk of scalding). It is therefore important to let the appliance cool down before you add fresh water.

For each normal-sized cup (125 ml), we recommend using about 6 g = 112 to 2 teaspoons of medium to finely ground coffee. Then close the appliance lid.

Preparing the glass carafe:

Close the jug lid and place the jug in position in the appliance. During the brewing process, the drip cap in the filter is opened up by the lid.

Wait for the water to pass through the filter and then remove the jug.

  • Switching off the coffee maker:

The coffee may be kept warm inside the carafe by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. Once the last cup has been poured, press to switch the coffee maker off. Unless the appliance is switched off manually, the hot-plate remains hot for around 35 minutes after the brewing cycle, when the appliance will switch itself off automatically. Always switch off the

appliance after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Unplug from mains power and clean the appliance as described in the Cleaning and Care section.

Cleaning and care

  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • To avoid any risk of electric shock, do not clean the coffee maker with liquids or immerse it in a liquid. The appliance may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild detergent. Wipe dry afterwards.
  • Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
  • To remove any used coffee grounds, open the appliance lid and take out the filter insert.
  • Dispose of the paper filter with the used coffee grounds. The coffee grounds can be composted.
  • Empty out the permanent filter, clean with soapy water, rinse and allow to dry.
  • Rinse out the filter insert, wipe it dry and replace it.
Clean the coffee jug and lid after use, with soapy water, or in the dishwasher.

Dscaling

Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household

appliances using hot water need.
descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits)
on a regular basis to warrant proper
functioning.

  • Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient descaling.
  • A lengthening of the brewing time, increased noise during brewing or residual water remaining in the container indicate that descending has become necessary.
An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong descending agents are used. It may also cause the brewing system to leak. We therefore strongly recommend descending the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles. For descending, a vinegar solution may be used as follows:
  • Mix 80ml of vinegar essence with the indicated maximum amount of cold water.
  • Pour the descending solution into the water container, insert a paper filter into the filter holder without adding any ground coffee as described in section Making coffee, and let the appliance run through one filtration cycle. Repeat the procedure if necessary. During descending, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
To clean the appliance after descending, let it run through 2-3 filtration cycles using clean water only.
  • Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks.
