USER MANUAL Weight Watchers WZ7000F0 TEFAL
In association with Weight Watchers, Tefal has developed these bathroom scales specifically designed to track your weight with various indicators including your BMI*.
- BMI = Body Mass Index. The BMI measures the weight status of a person. It is used by the World Health Organization (WHO) to assess risks caused by overweight or anorexia in relation to a reference scale. BMI is calculated as follows: weight in kilograms / (height in metres x height in metres). For example, for a person weighing 62 kg and 1.60 metres tall: 62 / (1.6 x 1.6) = 24.2 The BMI is 24.2. Tefal and Weight Watchers bring you bathroom scales that automatically calculate your BMI and interpret it to help you track your weight better. TefWW-PPBodymaster 03-11 29/03/11 14:38 Page 56FR

Tips on tracking your weight To control your weight and figure, you must know your body composition (including your fat mass). Muscles and fat mass, which essentially make up your weight, are indispensable for life, and must be distributed evenly. This distribution varies according to your sex, age and height. Muscles allow you to carry out physical activities, lift objects and move without difficulty. The higher the muscle mass the more energy it consumes and thereby contributes to weight control. Fat mass functions as insulation, protection and energy reserve. It is inert and stores surplus calories, if you eat more than what you burn. Physical exercise helps you to reduce it, whereas a sedentary lifestyle increases it. In high quantities, fat mass is dangerous to health (cardiovascular risks, cholesterol, etc.). If you are on a diet, the scales will help you to control the loss of your fat mass while making sure your lean mass stays the same. This is helpful because an unsuitable diet can result in loss of muscle. However, only muscles consume energy. This means that if you lose muscles, you will burn fewer calories and your body will store the fat. Therefore you cannot reduce your fat mass on a lasting basis without maintaining your muscle mass. These scales will help you to monitor your diet and control the balance of your body composition over time. To get the best out of your appliance, the body measurement must always be taken in the same conditions: – Measurements must be taken barefoot (direct contact with the skin). Your feet must be dry and correctly positioned on the electrodes, see page 2. Caution: if your feet are too calloused, the measurement may be distorted – Preferably once a week first thing in the morning (to avoid weight fluctuations during the day due to your food intake, digestion or physical activity) – 15 minutes after you get up, so that the water in your body can circulate to your lower limbs. It is also important to make sure that there is no contact between your legs (thighs, knees, calves), or between your feet. If necessary, slide a sheet of paper between your legs. Measuring principle When you step onto the scales, barefoot, a very low intensity electric current is transmitted into your body by the electrodes. This current, transmitted from one foot to the other, comes up against obstacles when it must pass through fat. This resistance of the body, called bio-electric impedance, varies according to your sex, age and height, and from this, the fat mass and its limits can be determined. This appliance is entirely safe as it is operates with a very low voltage (1.5 V batteries). However, measurements may be distorted in the following cases: – people with a fever – children under 6 (appliance not calibrated under this age) – pregnant women (perfectly safe however) – people on dialysis, people with oedemas on the legs, people suffering from dysmorphia. Precautions of use
- Always place the scales on a flat, hard floor when you take your measurement. Avoid carpets or soft surfaces.
- Once you step onto the scales, try to stand still.
- Do not move the appliance when handling the keys.
- Caution: these bathroom scales are calibrated to track the BMI only for people above 18. They are not calibrated for children.
- Caution: all the data stored in the memory will be lost when you replace the batteries.
- Caution: the use of this appliance is prohibited for persons with pacemakers or any other electronic medical equipment due to risks of interference with the electric current.
- This appliance is not a medical device; it must not be used to determine weight for the purposes of medical supervision, diagnosis or treatments. Using your bathroom scales Automatic switch-on when you step onto the platform. 1 – Selecting your data When using for the first time, a memory is assigned to you so that the scales can calculate your BMI and your fat mass (if the scales assign you a memory that is already in use, see Special case, page 61). You must select TefWW-PPBodymaster 03-11 29/03/11 14:38 Page 59FR
your sex, height and age. Step onto the scales and follow sequence I, page 3. Step off the scales. 5/ Your BMI is displayed. 6/ Your fat mass is displayed in kg on the LCD. The vertical graduated scale shows you where your fat mass level is compared to your personalised limits (according to your age – height – sex). 2 – Data supplied by your scales Your bathroom scales are equipped with an automatic user recognition system. When you measure your weight for the first time, you must record your personal details on the memory (see paragraph above). During subsequent uses, your scales will automatically recognize you. Step onto the platform and follow sequences I and II, page 3. Special case If 2 users have similar weights or if your weight different is abnormally high, the scales will not recognize you and will ask you to reconfirm your memory number. After you step off the platform, – if the scales prompt you to record your data whereas it is already stored on the memory: press for 2 seconds, and then or until your memory is displayed. Then press to confirm your choice. – If the scales recognize you with the wrong memory number: press on or for 2 seconds until your memory number is displayed. Then press to confirm your choice. – If you are a new user, choose the first empty memory to record your parameters and if all the memories are full, clear a memory (see page 63, point 3). - Your scales calculate your BMI automatically and interpret it: <18: Underweight 18 to 25: Normal weight 25 to 30: Overweight >30: Obese Fat mass in kg Your scales display your fat mass in kg. Your fat mass is also shown on a graphic display that represents your personalised “good health” limits (calculated based on your sex, age and height). The aim is to show in a precise and personalised manner where your fat mass stands compared to your min and max limits. Your fat mass is below your minimum limit. It would be advisable to increase your fat mass, as it forms an important energy reserve for your body. Your fat mass and your lean mass are balanced. Continue to watch your weight. You have too much fat mass. Change your food habits and/or carry out a physical activity. Fat Mass maxi mini Fat Mass maxi mini Fat Mass maxi mini TefWW-PPBodymaster 03-11 29/03/11 14:38 Page 62FR
Your fat mass has exceeded the maximum measuring level. Change your food habits quickly, as your health is at risk. How to use these 2 parameters The BMI gives an indication of your weight status by calculating the weight/height ratio. Impedance measures the fat mass compared to the lean mass (muscles) within the personalised limits. Case of a sports person whose lean mass is high whereas the fat mass is normal. Case of a person whose weight/height ratio is correct, but whose fat mass is too high. Person whose body composition is balanced. 3 – Clearing the memory All the memories are in use. È follow sequences I, then III, pages 3 and 4:
