You can shred up to 10 sheets of A4 paper (80 g/m²) in one pass. Do not exceed this capacity to avoid damaging the device.
Can I shred CD/DVDs and credit cards with this shredder?
Yes, the Genie 580 XCD has a separate cutting unit for CDs, DVDs and credit cards. These are cut into 3 pieces and collected in a separate container.
How do I activate the reverse (REV) function?
Set the switch to the REV (reverse) position. This reverses the direction of the blades to clear a jam or remove stuck paper.

This is due to the motor's overload protection. Unplug the device, remove excess paper, then plug it back in and set the switch to REV to clear the blades.
What type of cut does this shredder produce?
It produces a fragments (cross-cut) of 5 × 18 mm, offering a security level of P-4 according to DIN 66399.

How do I dispose of the device at the end of its life?
Do not dispose of it with household waste. Take it to a collection center for waste electrical and electronic equipment, in accordance with local regulations.
What should I do if the device does not start?

Why don't the blades of the shredder move?
Frequently Asked Questions - 05/28/2026
Response Notice-Facile

If the blades of your Genie 580 XCD shredder do not rotate, here are the points to check in order:

1. Check the position switch

The three-position switch must be set to AUTO (automatic shredding mode). If the switch is set to OFF, the blades cannot operate. Also, check that the paper bin is properly installed - the device has a safety system that prevents operation if the bin is incorrectly positioned.

2. Check for overload and cooling

The device has an automatic overload protection: after 2 minutes of continuous operation at maximum capacity, the motor automatically stops. If you have used the device for a long time, let it rest for a few minutes at room temperature before restarting.

3. Check for a possible blockage

If paper or a sheet is stuck, the blades may not move. Set the switch to REV (reverse) to reverse the direction of the blades and clear the blockage. Then wait a few seconds before repositioning to AUTO.

4. Check the power supply

Make sure the cable is properly connected to a 230-240V power outlet and that the device is receiving electricity (look for any indicator light or power signal).

If after these checks the blades still do not move, contact Genie customer service at +49 (0)180 5 007514.

Paper Jams and overload protection

GENIE 580 XCD is equipped with a motor overload protection device. The normal short duty cycle for continuous shredding at maximum capacity is 2 minutes. The power may terminate automatically in case of the following abnormal situations:

  1. Operating the shredder at the maximum capacity continuously for a prolonged period of time, e.g. more than 2 minutes for computer paper and CD/DVD or credit card without stopping.
  2. Exceeding the shredding capacity e.g. inserting more than 10 sheets at one pass, or if the paper is not fed squarely into the feed opening.

Both abnormal operations may result in the activation of the automatic motor overload protection, which terminates the power to the unit. If this occurs, you should:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet to allow shredder to cool down. Tear or cut off any excess paper from the top of the shredder.
  2. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet and place the Switch in REV. Pull the remaining paper out of the cutters. Place the Switch back to the Auto position if necessary clear the feed opening of any remaining shredded pieces of paper, Keep fingers away from feed opening to avoid harm.
  3. With the Main Switch in the AUTO position and the feed opening clear, you are now ready to resume normal shredding.
