1. About these instructions
Before using this appliance for the first time, please read these operating instructions carefully, taking par- ticular note of the safety instructions! This appliance is only to be used or handled as specified in these operating in- structions. Please store these instructions somewhere safe in case you need them later. If you pass this appliance on to a third party, please include these operating instructions. 1.1. Warning symbols and key words used in these instructions DANGER!

The appliance is designed for grilling food. Do not use the ap- pliance outdoors. This appliance is designed to be used in the household. It is not intended, however, for use in similar applica- tions, such as − in commercial kitchens, for employees in shops, offices and other commercial areas; − on agricultural estates; − by customers in hotels, motels and other residential facili- ties; in bed & breakfast accommodation. Please note that we shall not be liable in cases of improper use:
- Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not use any auxiliary equipment which we have not approved or supplied.
- Use only spare parts and accessories which we have supplied or approved.
- Heed all the information in these operating instructions, es- pecially the safety information. Any other use is deemed im- proper and can cause personal injury or damage to property.
3.1. People with reduced capacities
- This appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abili- ties or by those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and have understood the potential risks. Children must not play with the appliance.
- Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are aged 8 or over and are supervised.
- Children younger than 8 should be kept away from the appli- ance and the mains cable.
- DANGER! Keep the plastic packaging out of reach of babies and infants. There is a risk of suffocation! 3.2. General notes
- Ensure the mains cable is out of harm’s way and will not trip people up. Do not allow the mains cable to become trapped or squashed.
- Do not use the appliance if it or the connecting cables are vis- ibly damaged or if the appliance itself has been dropped.
- There are dangerous voltages inside the appliance. Never open the housing or insert objects into the ventilation slots. Risk of fatal electrical shock!
- In order to disconnect the appliance completely from the power supply, pull the plug from the mains safety socket.
- Appliances left connected to the mains power supply during thunderstorms may be damaged. Therefore, always remove the mains plug if there is a thunderstorm.
- If the appliance has been moved from a cold room to a warm room, wait before connecting up the mains plug. The result- ing condensation may damage the product. - Only allow a specialist workshop or our Service Centre to re- pair the appliance or mains lead. The user may be subject to serious risks if repairs are not carried out by a qualified per- son. 3.3. Setting up the appliance safely
- Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, dry and level surface.
- Do not place the appliance on surfaces that can become hot (e.g. on hotplates).
- CAUTION! Ensure that the appliance does not come into con- tact with any other objects during operation. Leave sufficient clearance at all sides and to the top. Especially, do not set up the appliance near easily flammable materials (curtains, drapes, paper, etc.). There is a risk of fire.
- Do not cover the appliance.
- CAUTION! Do not allow moisture to penetrate the casing. There is a risk of electric shock.
- Do not place any objects on the appliance.
- Do not set up the appliance near to sinks and avoid exposing it to water droplets or spray.
- Never place the appliance on the edge of a table – it could tip over and fall. 3.4. Mains connection
- Only connect the appliance to a properly installed 220- 240V~50Hz safety socket that is easy to reach and close to the working area. Keep the mains safety socket free of ob- structions so that the plug can be pulled out easily.
- Remove the plug from the mains safety socket after each use, before cleaning and during periods when the appliance is left unattended.

- Avoid the use of extension cables in order to prevent tripping.
- Do not allow the mains cable to come into contact with hot objects or surfaces (e.g. cooker hob).
- Do not allow the mains cable to come into contact with water or other liquids.
- This appliance may not be operated on an external timer or a separate remote control system (e.g. a remote-controlled mains socket). 3.5. Handling the appliance safely
- Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
- Never use the appliance if it has been damaged or if the mains cable or mains plug show signs of damage.
- Do not move the appliance while it is in use.
- CAUTION! The grilling plates will become very hot! Do not touch them, there is a risk of burns! Always allow the appli- ance to cool down before replacing or removing the grilling plates.
- CAUTION! The touchable surfaces of the appliance will be- come very hot during operation. During operation, only touch the appliance on the handle! Use oven gloves for this purpose. There is a risk of burns!
- Sensitive surfaces on the grilling plates. To avoid scratch- es, please avoid the use of sharp objects. Use heat-resistant wooden or plastic cutlery to remove food from the grill.
- Steam is released during grilling. Do not reach into the steam; there is a risk of scalding!
- Do not use the appliance outside. 3.6. Cleaning
Pull the mains plug from the mains safety socket before clean- ing the appliance. Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
- Allow the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning.
- Sensitive surfaces on the grilling plates. Do not use any metal objects to clean the grilling plates but rather a slightly damp, soft cloth. Do not clean the grilling plates in a dishwasher. Ob- serve the instructions in Chapter “11. Cleaning” on page 89. 3.7. Never carry out repairs yourself Warning! Live components. There is a risk of electric shock. Therefore, follow the instructions below:
- If the plug, cable or appliance itself is damaged, disconnect the appliance from the mains safety socket immediately.
- To avoid risks, never try to open and/or repair the appliance yourself. In the event of a fault, contact our Service Centre or another suitable professional repair workshop.
- If the mains cable on the appliance is damaged it must be re- placed by the manufacturer, its customer service agent or an- other suitably qualified person. This is to avoid hazards.

Remove all packaging materials. Set up the appliance on a level, dry and heat-resistant work surface at a comfort- able height. Clean the grilling plates with a slightly damp, soft cloth before using the appli- ance for the first time, as well as after ever subsequent use. Thoroughly dry the grilling plates. 6.1. Inserting the grilling plates Firstly insert the lower grilling plate onto the lower heating element and then the upper grilling plate onto the upper heating element. Insert each of the grilling plates into the appliance in such a way that the tabs on the appliance fit into the slots on the grilling plates. Press down on the grilling plates until they audibly click into place. The appliance is now ready for use. 6.2. Removing the grilling plates Press the relevant unlocking button on the right-hand side of the appliance to release the upper and lower grilling plates. Hold the upper grilling plate firmly when removing it so that it does not fall down out of the appliance.
7. Using the contact grill
Prepare the food in accordance with the recipe. Insert the grilling plates as described above. Close the lid and insert the mains plug into a 220-240V~ 50Hz mains safety socket. Set the On/Off switch to the ON position. The red operating light will light up to indicate that the appliance is in use. Set the desired temperature level (the MAX setting corresponds to the highest temperature level, the MIN setting to the lowest). WARNING! The touchable surfaces of the appliance will become hot during operation. Only touch the appliance on the handle or the temperature control during opera- tion. Use oven gloves for this purpose. The green light indicates when the heating process is complete (after approx. 6-8 minutes) and the grilling temperature has been reached. PLEASE NOTE! During the initial heating period you may notice faint odours. This does not mean that the appliance is faulty. Lightly grease the grilling plates, close the lid and allow the appliance to heat up for approx. 10 minutes without any food. Please ensure adequate ventilation e.g. by opening a window. 7.1. Setting the temperature The following table contains information on the recommended temperature settings for food cooked on the contact grill. Regularly check whether the food is cooked or if the desired level of browning has been achieved. Grilling food You can use the contact grill to prepare e.g. steaks, veal, meat skewers, wraps, etc. The preparation time depends on the thickness and consistency of the food. Fold back the lid. Place the prepared food onto the lower grilling plate. Fold the lid back down and push it down lightly on the handle.
If necessary, use the the spacing adjustment to set the desired clearance be- tween the grilling plates by sliding it forwards or backwards. Check the food after a cooking time of 2 to 4 minutes in order to avoid burning it. CAUTION! Hot steam or splashes of grease may escape when the lid is opened. In order to avoid burns, do not reach into the steam. Only touch the food with cutlery e.g. grilling tongs. ATTENTION! Do not use any sharp objects or cutlery made out of met- al that could damage the non-stick coating on the cook- ing surfaces! If the food is not yet cooked through, close the lid again for a short period of time. If the food has finished cooking, remove it using heat-resistant wooden or plas- tic cutlery. 7.3. Grilling on both grilling plates WARNING! The surfaces of the appliance will become very hot! Do not touch them, there is a risk of burns! Only change the position of the grilling plates when they have cooled down. In order to use both grilling plates to prepare food, the upper and lower grilling plates can be set up on an even surface. Firstly open the grill so that the upper grilling plate is in an upright position. Press the unlocking button on the right hinge and push the upper grilling plate backwards at the handle until the grilling plates form a horizontal surface. 8. Switching off the appliance
Switch off the appliance after every use by setting the On/Off switch to the OFF position and removing the mains plug from the mains safety plug. Allow the appliance to cool down with the grilling plates open and then clean it.
9. Transporting and storing the appliance
In order to safely transport and store the appliance without the grill unintentional- ly opening, secure the upper grilling plate using the transport lock/spacing adjust- ment. Allow the appliance to cool down. Clean it as de- scribed in Chapter “11. Cleaning” on page 89. Fold down the upper grilling plate. Slide the transport lock into the forward posi- tion. The appliance has now been secured against open- ing and can be transported and stored using the handle.
10. Faults and remedies
Malfunction Solutions The appliance does not work Is the mains plug inserted into the mains safety socket? The food is too light/not cooked. Does the green operating light indicate the grilling temperature has been reached? Allow the food to cook for longer. The food is too dark. Reduce the cooking time. The food sticks to the grilling plates. WARNING! The grilling plates will become very hot! Do not touch them, there is a risk of burns! Always allow the appli- ance to cool down before replacing or removing the grilling plates. WARNING! Live components. Never immerse the appliance in wa- ter or other liquids! There is a risk of electric shock! ATTENTION! Sensitive surfaces. Do not use any sharp or abrasive cleansing agents on the non-stick coating of the grilling plates and the housing of the appliance because these items could damage the surfaces. Do not clean the grilling plates in a dishwasher. Pull the plug from the mains socket before cleaning the appliance. Allow the appliance to cool down completely. Remove the oil drip tray on the back of the appliance. Hold it horizontally when removing it. Dispose of the oil in the household rubbish. Rinse the oil drip tray with water and a mild washing-up liquid. You can leave the grilling plates in the appliance. Wipe the cooled down grilling plates and the top of the appliance with a slightly damp, soft cloth. If you remove the grilling plates, you can clean them under running water using a soft cloth. Packaging Your appliance has been packaged to protect it against transportation damage. Packaging is raw material and can be re-used or added to the recycling system. Appliance Old appliances should not be disposed of with the normal household rubbish. In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU, the appliance must be proper- ly disposed of at the end of its service life. This involves separating the materials in the appliance for the purpose of recycling and avoiding any impact on the environment. Take old appliances to a collection point for electrical scrap or a recycling centre. Contact your local waste disposal company or your local authority for more infor- mation on this subject.

16. Restricted Warranty (United Kingdom)
16.1. General Conditions of Warranty
This warranty covers defects relating to workmanship and manufacture in MEDION products. The period during which this warranty is valid and during which claims against the warranty can be made to MEDION must be in accordance with the fol- lowing terms in order to be considered eligible:
- Is effective from the date of purchase or receipt of the MEDION product from an authorised seller of MEDION products; and
- expires at the end of the warranty period. For the warranty to be valid, you must:
- provide suitable evidence of purchase, a copy of the original purchase receipt from an authorised seller of MEDION products is preferred;
- register your product within 28 days of purchase online at www.MEDION.co.uk. Please keep the original purchase receipt in a safe place. MEDION and its authorised sellers reserve the right to refuse a repair under warranty or a warranty confirmation if a proof of purchase [or registration of purchase] cannot be established, or has not been, submitted. When it is necessary to return your product for repair please ensure that your pro- duct is suitably packed for transportation. Provided that your product is still within warranty (please check the duration of the warranty period as described above) and is eligible for repair or replacement under the terms of the warranty, to return your product, please telephone MEDION on the service hotline number. You will be sent a pre-paid transportation box suitable for returning your product to MEDION or a voucher. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL DATA ON THE PRO DUCT BEFORE RETURNING THE PRODUCT TO MEDION. MEDION shall bear the costs of postage and packaging for returning the product and the transportation risk. However, if following examination of the defective pro- duct in question, MEDION, in its reasonable opinion, considers that the defect has been caused by:
- your operating and/or using the product other than as instructed in the accom- panying documentation;
- damage caused in transit as a result of your negligence in packaging of the pro- duct; and/or
- otherwise than in accordance with the terms of this warranty; This warranty shall be void and you may be required by MEDION to reimburse ME- DION for the reasonable costs of postage and packaging before MEDION will return the product to you. product, MEDION may do so but you will be charged MEDION’s standard rates for repair and replacement for this service. Before returning the product, please contact MEDION via the service hotline or via the internet www.MEDION.co.uk. You will receive a reference number (RMA No.). Please mark the outside of your package to ensure that this reference number is clearly visible. Please submit a letter containing as much detailed information as possible and, a full description of the defect or fault. This should include:
- a description of the fault;
- when it occurred, how long it has been evident and how frequently it occurs;
- any errors message(s) displayed when using the product;
- a description of the circumstance(s) and conditions in which the fault occurs; and
- whether it is an intermittent or persistent fault. This will greatly assist MEDION in identifying the defect, when submitted together with the defective product. Unless otherwise instructed by a MEDION representative in all cases, the product must be returned complete with all parts which were included with the original pro- duct. Incomplete contents of the returned package may lead to a delay in the repair or replacement. MEDION does not accept any liability for any additionally submitted material(s) which were not supplied with the original MEDION product. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights in any way and is subject to the applicable legal statutes of the country where the product was sold to you by an au- thorised MEDION seller.
Subject to any exclusions set out within this warranty, where there is a defect in your MEDION product covered by this warranty, MEDION will repair or replace the MEDION product. The decision whether to repair or replace the product will be made solely at the discretion of MEDION. MEDION may, in its own discretion, repla- ce the product returned for repair under warranty with a replacement product that is either identical or, in the event that such product(s) are no longer available, a pro- duct of equal or superior specification and quality. No warranty is given for batteries or rechargeable batteries or for consumable ma- terials subject to wear and tear, i.e. for parts which have to be replaced periodically during the normal use of the product, such as video-projector lamp. Non critical failures that fall within industry specified tolerances e.g. noise, LCD pi- xels are not covered by this warranty. Please consult the appropriate section in your user or instruction manual for this product for exact specifications and tolerances. To the extent which is permitted under law, MEDION will accept no liability for burnt-in images on plasma or LCD products as a result of normal wear and tear du- ring the operation of the product. If it is found during repair or assessment that the defect concerned is not covered under warranty, MEDION reserves the right to invoice you for all reasonable costs in- curred by MEDION. These costs will be in relation to the return of the product, inclu- ding reasonable administration costs, plus reasonable costs for materials used and labour provided when repairing or replacing the product. This is subject to MEDION providing you with an estimate for carrying out such work prior to costs being in- curred and that you have accepted the estimate. You are entitled to seek independent advice or consultation relating to your pro- duct or any of MEDION’s findings. MEDION will not be liable for any costs incurred to you when doing so.
16.1.3. Exclusion from warranty
To the extent permitted by law, this warranty shall be void in the event that defects or loss caused by:
- failure and damage resulting from the operation of the product in an environ- ment other than that recommended in the accompanying user or instruction manual (e.g. in direct sunlight or in a damp room);
- use other than in accordance with the accompanying user or instruction manual;
- modifications, conversions, expansions, maintenance and/or repairs made to the MEDION product by unauthorised repairers or use of unauthorised third party parts;
- virus attack or software errors;
- improper transportation or packaging during return of the product.
- This warranty will also be considered void if labels or serial numbers of the pro- duct or of a component of the product are modified or made illegible.
- To the extent permitted by law, MEDION shall; only be responsible for losses which are a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the relevant defect in the product; MEDION will not be responsible for any costs incurred in relation to software configuration; economic loss; loss of opportunity; loss of income; or loss of data or software arising out of its repair or replacement of a MEDION pro- duct under this warranty
16.1.4. Service Hotline
Before returning the product to MEDION you must contact us using the service hot- line or via the internet (www.MEDION.co.uk). You will receive further instructions for making your claim under warranty when you call. 16.2. Special warranty conditions for MEDION PC, notebook, pocket PC (PDA) and navigation devices (PNA) The following terms apply to MEDION PC, notebook, desktop, pocket PC and laptop products and optional items included with such products. If one of these items has a fault, you also have a warranty claim for its repair or replacement, from MEDION. The warranty covers the costs of materials and labour for repairing or replacing the defective MEDION product or the optional item in question. Hardware connected to your product that was not produced or marketed by MEDI- ON can invalidate the warranty if MEDION can reasonably demonstrate that dama- ge to the MEDION product or of the optional item included with the delivery was caused by such hardware. You are entitled to seek independent advice or consulta- tion relating to your product or any of MEDION’s findings. MEDION will not be liable for any costs incurred to you when doing so. This warranty is restricted in relation to any pre-installed operating system as well as to application programme software that is included with the MEDION product in question. This warranty is restricted as follows: For pre-installed operating system as well as to application programme software in- cluded in the MEDION product, MEDION only guarantees the data media (e.g. the diskettes and CD-ROMs) upon which this software is delivered and warrants that such data media shall be free from material and processing defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase of the MEDION product from an authorised seller of MEDION. MEDION will replace defective data media free of charge. Any claims in respect of defective pre-installed operating system as well as to ap- plication programme software are hereby expressly excluded and you should con- tact the relevant licensor or copyright owner of the defective software in questi- on. MEDION does not guarantee that any software supplied with MEDION products will function without interruption, will be free from errors or that it will fulfil your re- quirements. MEDION does not guarantee the 100% accuracy of the maps provided with the Navigation device. It may be necessary to delete all data in the product in order to repair the MEDI- ON product. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL DATA ON THE PRODUCT BEFORE RETURNING THE PRODUCT TO MEDION. Special warranty conditions for repair on site or replacement on site If a claim for repair or replacement on site is included with the product, the special warranty conditions for repair or replacement of your MEDION product on site ap- ply. The following provisions must be made by you for carrying out repairs or replace- ments on site:
- MEDION or its authorised personnel must have unrestricted, safe and immediate access to the products.
- Telecommunication facilities required by MEDION or its authorised personnel for proper execution of your order, for testing and diagnostic purposes and for re- medying faults are provided by you at your own expense.
- You are responsible yourself for restoring the application software after the re- pair services have been carried out by MEDION or its authorised personnel.
- You must take all other necessary steps to enable MEDION or its authorised per- sonnel to carry out your order properly.
- You are responsible yourself for connecting and configuring any existing exter- nal peripheral products after MEDION or its authorised personnel have carried out their repairs.
- The free cancellation period for repairs or replacements on site is 24hours, the- reafter our reasonable costs resulting from late or missing cancellation shall be invoiced at your expense.
