1. About these instructions
Read the safety instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time. Note the warnings on the appliance and in the operating in- structions. Always keep the operating instructions close to hand. If you sell the ap- pliance or give it away, make sure you also hand over these instructions and the warranty card. 1.1. This appliance is designed for the preparation of soft ice cream, sorbets and frozen yoghurt. This appliance is designed to be used in the household. It is not intended, however, for use in similar applications, such as − in commercial kitchens, for employees in shops, offices and other commercial areas; − on agricultural estates; − by customers in hotels, motels and other residential facili- ties; − in bed & breakfast accommodation. Please note that we shall not be liable in cases of improper use:
- Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not use any auxiliary equipment that we have not approved or supplied.
- Use only spare parts and accessories that we have supplied or approved.
- Heed all the information in these operating instructions, es- pecially the safety information. Any other use is deemed im- proper and can cause personal injury or damage to the appli- ance.
4.1. People not permitted to use this appliance
- Keep the appliance and its accessories out of the reach of chil- dren.
- This appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or by those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the ap- pliance and have understood the dangers that result from it. Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are aged 8 or over and are supervised.
- Children younger than 8 should be kept away from the appli- ance and the mains cable. CAUTION! Keep plastic packaging out of the reach of children. There is a risk of suffocation! 4.2. General notes
- Make sure that the mains cable does not present a trip hazard. Do not allow the connecting cable to become trapped or squashed.
- Do not use the appliance if it or the connecting cables are visibly damaged or if the appliance itself has been dropped.
- There are dangerous voltages inside the appliance. Never open the housing or insert objects into the ventilation slots. Risk of fatal electrical shock!
- In order to disconnect the appliance completely from the power supply, pull the plug from the socket. Always pull the plug, never the cable.DE
- Appliances left connected to the mains power supply during thun- derstorms may be damaged. Therefore, always remove the mains plug if there is a thunderstorm.
- Avoid touching moving parts. Keep hair, clothing, hands, cutlery, mixing spoons or similar items away from the appliance during op- eration to avoid injuries or damage to property.
- Sensitive surfaces. Do not store any acidic liquids (e.g. lemon juice) in the mixture container. 4.3. General safety instructions WARNING Improper handling can cause damage to the device and your health. Please follow the safety advice below closely:
- DANGER! Do not store any explosive materials, for examp- le aerosol containers containing flammable propellant gas, in or in the vicinity of the appliance. There may be slight sparks when the thermostat switches on. There is a RISK OF AN EX PLOSION!
- DANGER! Damage to the coolant circuit must be prevented. Contact between the coolant and the eyes or skin could lead to injuries. If affected, rinse out your eyes immediately and seek medical advice.
- DANGER! Damage to the coolant circuit must be prevented. There is a risk of fire! Do not operate any electrical appliances inside the refrigeration/freezer compartment that are not ap- proved by the manufacturer. Keep open flames away from the appliance.64 /78
- Manipulations to the coolant circuit are not permitted and will invalidate the warranty.
- To prevent unnecessary risks, damaged mains cables may only be replaced by authorised workshops or the technical customer service.
- ATTENTION! Do not place the appliance on its side or rear, otherwise oil may leak out of the compressor into the coolant circuit and could block it.
- If the cooling system is damaged, the room in which the ap- pliance is situated must be thoroughly aired for several minu- tes (the room must be at least 4 m³). 4.4. Transport
- The appliance should always be transported upright. If trans- ported at an angle of more than 40°, leave to stand for an hour before connecting to the mains and switching on so that the cooling circuit can settle in.
- Do not expose the appliance to rain or splashes of water.
- Do not store any of the packaging material used (bags, poly- styrene, etc.) within the reach of children. There is a risk of suf- focation. 4.5. Safe operation
- Never immerse the appliance in liquids!
- Do not use the appliance outdoors.
- Do not leave the appliance unattended during operation.
- Ensure that no foreign objects (spoon, spatula or similar items) are in the mixture container during operation.DE
65 / 78 4.6. Faults CAUTION! Live components. There is a risk of electric shock. Therefore, follow the instructions below:
- Avoid damaging the appliance or the power cable.
- Always check the power cable and the appliance for damage before each use.
- Do not use the appliance if the mixture container is damaged. Coolant could leak and cause damage to health.
- Never try to open and/or repair a appliance component your- self.
- Ensure that a defective appliance is repaired immediately by a specialist workshop. In order to reduce risks: if the mains ca- ble for this appliance is damaged then it must be replaced by the Medion Service Centre or a similarly qualified person. 4.7. Cleaning and maintenance CAUTION! Live components. There is a risk of electric shock. Therefore, follow the instructions below:
- Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids!
- Always disconnect the appliance plug from the mains socket be- fore cleaning or servicing the appliance and before fitting or dis- mantling the attachments.
- As a general rule, remove the attachments from the main appli- ance before cleaning.66 /78

6. Installation and initial use
Before using the appliance for the first time, clean all parts that come into con- tact with foodstuffs (mixture container, stirrer, cover) thoroughly. Please note that the parts are not dishwasher safe. Before cleaning, remove the motor block from the cover by first removing the motor block and then turning the cover anticlockwise and removing the stirrer. NOTE The appliance is driven by an electric motor. This can lead to a slight smell during initial operation. This smell is normal and is not a sign of a malfunctioning appliance. Ensure that there is adequate ventilation.68 /78
7. Using the ice cream maker
Place the mixture container into the ice cream maker. . NOTE When inserting the mixture container, ensure that the handle mounts lie in the locking tabs of the cooling unit. Place the stirrer in the mixture container and align the stirrer with the position of the drive hub. Mount the motor block into the recess on the cover. Ensure that both tabs snap audibly into place in the two recesses on the cover. Attach the stirrer on the drive shaft. Place all the ingredients in the mixture container. Do not exceed the filling ca- pacity of 500 ml. Place the cover together with the motor block onto the mixture container. En- sure that the locking tabs fit into the recesses and close the mixture container by turning the cover slightly in a clockwise direction. Connect the appliance to a properly installed 220–240V~, 50Hz safety socket. Press the button to switch on the appliance. The operating time of 50 minutes flashes in the display. You can set an operating time of 50, 40, 30 or 10 minutes. Set the desired operating time. You can change the duration of the current pro- gramme in increments of 5 minutes by pressing the button. Fill the mixture container during operation via the filling opening in the cover. After the time is up, disconnect the plug from the mains socket and remove the cover with motor block and the stirrer. Use a spatula to remove the ice cream from the mixture container. Remove the stirrer after preparation. CAUTION! Do not store finished ice cream in the mixture container. Use a suitable deep freeze container. Clean the appliance parts (mixture container, stirrer, cover) carefully as described below.DE
8. Recipe suggestions
8.1. Vanilla ice cream Ingredients 180 ml full cream milk 320 ml whipping cream 50 g sugar A few drops of vanilla extract Preparation Mix the milk, cream, vanilla extract and sugar. Stir the ingredients until you have a relatively firm mass. Pour this into the ice cream container. Set the ice cream maker to run for approx. 50 minutes. Vanilla ice cream is the ideal base for a wide range of different flavours. Flavour your vanilla ice cream according to your taste, e.g. with chocolate curls or ground nuts. Do not add the additional ingredients until the ice cream in the machine is almost ready. 8.2. Chocolate ice cream Ingredients 150ml full cream milk 200 ml whipping cream 110 g chocolate 30 g sugar A few drops of vanilla extract Preparation Chop up the chocolate with a knife or a suitable hand blender. Heat the milk until bubbles start to form around the edge. Mix the milk, chocolate and sugar. Stir the ingredients until they form a homogene- ous mixture and then allow it to cool down. Stir in the cream and pour the mix into the ice cream maker. Set the ice cream maker to run for approx. 50 minutes.70 /78 8.3. Frozen yoghurt Ingredients 200ml yoghurt 150ml quark (curd cheese) 150 ml whipping cream 30 g sugar A few drops of vanilla extract Preparation Mix the yoghurt, cream, quark, the vanilla extract and the sugar. Stir the ingredients until they form a homogeneous mixture and then pour the mix into the ice cream maker. Set the ice cream maker to run for approx. 50 minutes.
9. Cleaning the appliance
CAUTION! Live components. There is a risk of electric shock. Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids! NOTE! Do not use any harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or objects to clean the accessories and the housing because these items could damage the sur- faces. Use a mild cleaning agent e.g. washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Please note that the parts are not dishwasher safe. Pull the plug from the mains socket before cleaning the appliance. Remove the motor unit. Clean the accessories with hot water and washing-up liquid. Wipe the surfaces of the appliance with a slightly damp, soft cloth.
10. End of operation
If you do not plan to use the appliance for a long period of time, pull out the mains plug and store the appliance in a dry location.DE
The product left our warehouse in perfect condition. If you do, however, discover a problem, see if you can solve it by using the solutions offered in the following table. If these do not work, contact our Customer Services department. Problem Possible cause Troubleshooting The ice cream mak- er is not working. The plug is not connected to the mains. Connect the appliance to a properly installed 220– 240V~, 50Hz safety socket. The stirrer does not rotate. Preparation time too long. Change the recipe. Adjust the preparation time. Ice cream consist- ency too soft. Preparation time too short. Increase the preparation time by 10 minutes.
Packaging The product has been packaged to protect it from damage in transit. Packaging is raw material and can be re-used or added to the recycling system. Appliance Do not under any circumstances dispose of the appliance with the household rubbish at the end of its service life. Please consult your local authority for advice on correct and eco-friendly methods of disposal.

16. Restricted Warranty (United Kingdom)
16.1. General Conditions of Warranty
This warranty covers defects relating to workmanship and manufacture in MEDION products. The period during which this warranty is valid and during which claims against the warranty can be made to MEDION must be in accordance with the fol- lowing terms in order to be considered eligible:
- Is effective from the date of purchase or receipt of the MEDION product from an authorised seller of MEDION products; and
- expires at the end of the warranty period. For the warranty to be valid, you must:
- provide suitable evidence of purchase, a copy of the original purchase receipt from an authorised seller of MEDION products is preferred;
- register your product within 28 days of purchase online at www.MEDION.co.uk. Please keep the original purchase receipt in a safe place. MEDION and its authorised sellers reserve the right to refuse a repair under warranty or a warranty confirmation if a proof of purchase [or registration of purchase] cannot be established, or has not been, submitted. When it is necessary to return your product for repair please ensure that your pro- duct is suitably packed for transportation. Provided that your product is still within warranty (please check the duration of the warranty period as described above) and is eligible for repair or replacement under the terms of the warranty, to return your product, please telephone MEDION on the service hotline number. You will be sent a pre-paid transportation box suitable for returning your product to MEDION or a voucher. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL DATA ON THE PRO DUCT BEFORE RETURNING THE PRODUCT TO MEDION. MEDION shall bear the costs of postage and packaging for returning the product and the transportation risk. However, if following examination of the defective pro- duct in question, MEDION, in its reasonable opinion, considers that the defect has been caused by:
- your operating and/or using the product other than as instructed in the accom- panying documentation;
- damage caused in transit as a result of your negligence in packaging of the pro- duct; and/or
- otherwise than in accordance with the terms of this warranty; This warranty shall be void and you may be required by MEDION to reimburse ME- DION for the reasonable costs of postage and packaging before MEDION will return the product to you. If so and you would still like MEDION to repair or replace the74 /78 product, MEDION may do so but you will be charged MEDION’s standard rates for repair and replacement for this service. Before returning the product, please contact MEDION via the service hotline or via the internet www.MEDION.co.uk. You will receive a reference number (RMA No.). Please mark the outside of your package to ensure that this reference number is clearly visible. Please submit a letter containing as much detailed information as possible and, a full description of the defect or fault. This should include:
- a description of the fault;
- when it occurred, how long it has been evident and how frequently it occurs;
- any errors message(s) displayed when using the product;
- a description of the circumstance(s) and conditions in which the fault occurs; and
- whether it is an intermittent or persistent fault. This will greatly assist MEDION in identifying the defect, when submitted together with the defective product. Unless otherwise instructed by a MEDION representative in all cases, the product must be returned complete with all parts which were included with the original pro- duct. Incomplete contents of the returned package may lead to a delay in the repair or replacement. MEDION does not accept any liability for any additionally submitted material(s) which were not supplied with the original MEDION product. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights in any way and is subject to the applicable legal statutes of the country where the product was sold to you by an au- thorised MEDION seller.
Subject to any exclusions set out within this warranty, where there is a defect in your MEDION product covered by this warranty, MEDION will repair or replace the MEDION product. The decision whether to repair or replace the product will be made solely at the discretion of MEDION. MEDION may, in its own discretion, repla- ce the product returned for repair under warranty with a replacement product that is either identical or, in the event that such product(s) are no longer available, a pro- duct of equal or superior specification and quality. No warranty is given for batteries or rechargeable batteries or for consumable ma- terials subject to wear and tear, i.e. for parts which have to be replaced periodically during the normal use of the product, such as video-projector lamp. Non critical failures that fall within industry specified tolerances e.g. noise, LCD pi- xels are not covered by this warranty. Please consult the appropriate section in your user or instruction manual for this product for exact specifications and tolerances. To the extent which is permitted under law, MEDION will accept no liability for burnt-in images on plasma or LCD products as a result of normal wear and tear du- ring the operation of the product. 75 / 78 The warranty does not cover errors relating to the playback of data media in an in- compatible format or created with unsuitable software. If it is found during repair or assessment that the defect concerned is not covered under warranty, MEDION reserves the right to invoice you for all reasonable costs in- curred by MEDION. These costs will be in relation to the return of the product, inclu- ding reasonable administration costs, plus reasonable costs for materials used and labour provided when repairing or replacing the product. This is subject to MEDION providing you with an estimate for carrying out such work prior to costs being in- curred and that you have accepted the estimate. You are entitled to seek independent advice or consultation relating to your pro- duct or any of MEDION’s findings. MEDION will not be liable for any costs incurred to you when doing so.
16.1.3. Exclusion from warranty
To the extent permitted by law, this warranty shall be void in the event that defects or loss caused by:
- failure and damage resulting from the operation of the product in an environ- ment other than that recommended in the accompanying user or instruction manual (e.g. in direct sunlight or in a damp room);
- use other than in accordance with the accompanying user or instruction manual;
- modifications, conversions, expansions, maintenance and/or repairs made to the MEDION product by unauthorised repairers or use of unauthorised third party parts;
- virus attack or software errors;
- improper transportation or packaging during return of the product.
- This warranty will also be considered void if labels or serial numbers of the pro- duct or of a component of the product are modified or made illegible.
- To the extent permitted by law, MEDION shall; only be responsible for losses which are a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the relevant defect in the product; MEDION will not be responsible for any costs incurred in relation to software configuration; economic loss; loss of opportunity; loss of income; or loss of data or software arising out of its repair or replacement of a MEDION pro- duct under this warranty
16.1.4. Service Hotline
Before returning the product to MEDION you must contact us using the service hot- line or via the internet (www.MEDION.co.uk). You will receive further instructions for making your claim under warranty when you call. The price of your call will be stated at the beginning of the call.76 /78 16.2. Special warranty conditions for MEDION PC, notebook, pocket PC (PDA) and navigation devices (PNA) The following terms apply to MEDION PC, notebook, desktop, pocket PC and laptop products and optional items included with such products. If one of these items has a fault, you also have a warranty claim for its repair or replacement, from MEDION. The warranty covers the costs of materials and labour for repairing or replacing the defective MEDION product or the optional item in question. Hardware connected to your product that was not produced or marketed by MEDI- ON can invalidate the warranty if MEDION can reasonably demonstrate that dama- ge to the MEDION product or of the optional item included with the delivery was caused by such hardware. You are entitled to seek independent advice or consulta- tion relating to your product or any of MEDION’s findings. MEDION will not be liable for any costs incurred to you when doing so. This warranty is restricted in relation to any pre-installed operating system as well as to application programme software that is included with the MEDION product in question. This warranty is restricted as follows: For pre-installed operating system as well as to application programme software in- cluded in the MEDION product, MEDION only guarantees the data media (e.g. the diskettes and CD-ROMs) upon which this software is delivered and warrants that such data media shall be free from material and processing defects for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase of the MEDION product from an authorised seller of MEDION. MEDION will replace defective data media free of charge. Any claims in respect of defective pre-installed operating system as well as to ap- plication programme software are hereby expressly excluded and you should con- tact the relevant licensor or copyright owner of the defective software in questi- on. MEDION does not guarantee that any software supplied with MEDION products will function without interruption, will be free from errors or that it will fulfil your re- quirements. MEDION does not guarantee the 100% accuracy of the maps provided with the Navigation device. It may be necessary to delete all data in the product in order to repair the MEDI- ON product. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL DATA ON THE PRODUCT BEFORE RETURNING THE PRODUCT TO MEDION. To the extent permitted by law, MEDION excludes all liability for loss of data and MEDION recom- mends in all cases that you back up all data on your MEDION product before retur- ning the product to MEDION.DE
77 / 78 16.3. Special warranty conditions for repair on site or replacement on site If a claim for repair or replacement on site is included with the product, the special warranty conditions for repair or replacement of your MEDION product on site ap- ply. The following provisions must be made by you for carrying out repairs or replace- ments on site:
- MEDION or its authorised personnel must have unrestricted, safe and immediate access to the products.
- Telecommunication facilities required by MEDION or its authorised personnel for proper execution of your order, for testing and diagnostic purposes and for re- medying faults are provided by you at your own expense.
- You are responsible yourself for restoring the application software after the re- pair services have been carried out by MEDION or its authorised personnel.
- You must take all other necessary steps to enable MEDION or its authorised per- sonnel to carry out your order properly.
- You are responsible yourself for connecting and configuring any existing exter- nal peripheral products after MEDION or its authorised personnel have carried out their repairs.
- The free cancellation period for repairs or replacements on site is 24hours, the- reafter our reasonable costs resulting from late or missing cancellation shall be invoiced at your expense.
