POWXG50200 1 INTENDED USE Depending on the assembled cutting tools, the bush cutter can be used to mow lawns or meadows, and to trim scrub, shrubs, bushes and very small trees. It is for private use. The device cannot be used for other purposes. Not suitable for professional use. WARNING! Read this manual and general safety instructions carefully before using the appliance, for your own safety. 5 GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read all safety warnings and instructions.

  • Keep working area clean and well lit. Untidy and dark areas can lead to accidents.
  • Do not operate tools in potentially explosive surroundings, for example, in the presence of inflammable liquids, gases or dust. Tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a tool. Do not use a tool when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when operating a tool may result in serious personal injury.

  • Always use proper handles and shoulder strap when cutting.
  • Do not use the unit if it is damaged or poorly adjusted. Never remove the machine’s guard. Serious injury to the operator or bystanders could result as well as damage to the machine.
  • Inspect the area to be cut and remove all debris that could become entangled in the nylon cutting head. Also remove any objects that the unit may throw during cutting.
  • Never leave the machine unattended.
  • Do not use this unit for any job other than those for which it is intended as described in this manual.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not run the unit while standing on a ladder or on any other unstable footing location. Appropriately use the harness provided when operating the machine.
  • Keep hands and feet clear of the nylon cutting head or blade while unit is in use.
  • Do not use this type of machine for sweeping away debris.
  • Use nylon cutting head which is free of damage. If a stone or any other obstacle is hit, stop the engine and check the nylon cutting head. A broken or unbalanced nylon cutting head must never be used.
  • When ever approaching an operator of the machine, carefully call his attention and confirm that the operator stop the engine. Be careful not to startle or distract the operator which can cause an unsafe situation.
  • Never touch the nylon cutting head or blade when ever the engine is running. If it is necessary to replace the protector or cutting attachment, be sure to stop the engine and confirm that the cutting device has stopped running.
  • The engine should be turned off when the machine is moved between work areas.
  • Pay attention to loosening and overheating of parts. If there is any abnormality of the machine, stop operation immediately and check the machine carefully.   • In start-up or during operation of the engine, never touch hot parts such as the muffler, the high voltage wire or the spark plug.
  • After the engine has stopped, the muffler is still hot. Never place the machine in any places where there are flammable materials (dry grass, etc.), combustible gasses or combustible liquids.
  • Pay special attention to operation in the rain or just after the rain as the ground may be slippery.
  • If you slip or fall to the ground or into a hole, release the throttle lever immediately.

6 SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS

  • BLADE CAN RECOIL VIOLENTLY FROM MATERIAL IT CANNOT CUT – Blade can cause you to lose arms or legs. Keep people and animals 30 feet (10 meters) away in all directions. If blade contacts foreign objects during operation, turn off engine and allow blade to come to a halt. Then check blade for damage. Always discard blade if it is warped or cracked.
  • BLADE CATAPULTS OBJECTS THROUGH AIR - You can be blinded or injured. Wear eye, face, and leg protection. Always clear work area of any foreign objects before using blade. Keep people and animals 10 metres away in all directions.
  • BLADE COASTS AFTER THROTTLE IS RELEASED - A coasting blade can injure you or bystanders. Before servicing the blade, always turn off engine, and be sure coasting blade has stopped.
  • WARNING DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FUEL than that recommended in your manual. Always follow instructions in the Fuel and Lubrication section of this manual. Never use petrol unless it is properly mixed with 2-cycle engine lubricant. Permanent damage to engine will result, voiding manufacturer’s warranty.
  • DO NOT USE ANY OTHER CUTTING ATTACHMENT. Only use our replacement parts and accessories, which are designed specifically to enhance the performance and maximize the safe operation of our products. Failure to do so may cause poor performance and possible injury. Use only the stringhead supplied with this product. Do not use any other cutting attachment. Use of such attachments will void your factory warranty and may result in serious bodily injury.

7 SAFETY WARNINGS GASOLINE

WARNING: Use extra care in handling fuels. They are flammable and the

vapours are explosive. The following points must be observed.

  • Use only an approved container.
  • Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel with the power source running. Allow engine exhaust components to cool before refuelling.
  • Never refuel the machine indoors.
  • Never store the machine or fuel containers inside, where is an open flame, such as a water heater.
  • If fuel is spilled, do not attempt to start the power source, but move the machine away from the area of spillage before starting.
  • Always replace and securely tighten the fuel cap after refuelling.

To prevent an accidental start that could cause serious personal injury, always disconnect the engine spark plug HT lead from the spark plug when assembling parts. WARNING! Never install, remove or adjust any attachments while power head is running. Failure to stop the engine can cause serious personal injury.
  • Unscrew the locknut (7) from the shaft by turning it clockwise.
  • Remove the floating disc (6) and washer (5).
  • Insert the allen key (1) through the hole in the head assembly and into the opening on the mounting disc (3).
  • Hold the allen key tight so the mounting disc does not move.
  • Install the blade (4), washer (5), concave to be upwards and the floating disc (6). NOTE: The pit side of the washer must be connected with the blade.
  • Screw down the locknut (7) and tighten it anti-clockwise by holding the allen key.
  • Remove the Allen key and check for free movement of the blade.
  • Remove the screw from the cutting head guard.
  • Insert the left tab into the slot on the cutting head guard.
  • Align the screw hole in the mounting bracket with the screw hole into the cutting head guard.
  • Tighten the screw through the mounting bracket and into the cutting head guard using the screwdriver provided.
  • Lay the machine horizontally then fix the bottom of the handlebar bracket with the 2 M5x40 screws attached to the mounting bracket.
  • Insert the right handle in to the bracket, insert the left handle into the bracket. NOTE: Ensure the left handle goes in the left side and right handle in the right side. Do not mix them up.
  • Install the mounting bracket cover and tighten the 6 screws until the handle is secure.
  • Connect the latch on the shoulder harness to the strap hangar. Adjust the strap to a comfortable working position.

8.1 Connecting the upper and lower shafts

  • 1) insert the lower shaft into the coupler. Make sure that the protrusion (at the end of the shaft) is placed correctly in the positioning hole (inside the coupler). Rotate the shaft so that the release button pops into the primary hole. (the fixing hole – for the hand screw – is opposite the hand screw.)
  • 2) turn the hand screw clockwise to tighten the coupler securely around the shaft. CAUTION: before operating the unit, make sure the release button is fully snapped into the primary hole and that the hand screw is securely tightened.POWXG50200 EN Copyright © 2021 VARO P a g e | 7 www.varo.com

9 PRE OPERATION CHECKS

WARNING! This machine is shipped without oil and fuel. You MUST ensure all fluid levels are correct before operation otherwise you may cause serious engine damage that will not be covered by the warranty. WARNING! ALWAYS use a semi-synthetic 4 stroke SAE 10W30 engine oil and straight unleaded petrol. DO NOT mix the fuel with the oil. You MUST check the engine oil level before each use.

  • To add engine oil, remove the attachment from the power head and place of a flat, level surface.
  • Unscrew the oil filler cap (6).
  • Slowly pour 60 ml of semi-synthetic 4 stroke SAE 10W30 engine oil into the crank case until it reaches the top of the oil fill hole (Fig. 6). DO NOT overfill. Overfilling the crankcase may cause excessive smoke, oil loss and engine damage.
  • Replace the oil filler cap (6) and tighten securely. WARNING! Petrol and its vapours are highly flammable and explosive. To prevent serious personal injury and property damage, handle it with care. Keep away from ignition sources and open flames, handle outdoors only in a well ventilated area. DO NOT smoke and wipe up any spills immediately. ALWAYS shut off the engine and allow to cool BEFORE fuelling. NEVER add fuel to a running or hot machine. ALWAYS refuel in a well ventilated area, away from buildings or sources of ignition. Move at least 30 feet from the refuelling area before starting the machine. NEVER operate the machine without the fuel cap. Failure to safely handle fuel could result in serious personal injury.
  • Place the machine on a flat, level surface and remove the fuel filler cap (1).POWXG50200 EN Copyright © 2021 VARO P a g e | 8 www.varo.com
  • Carefully pour petrol into the fuel tank. NOTE: This is a 4 stroke machine so DO NOT mix fuel with oil.
  • Leave a 25 mm gap between the fuel and the top of the fuel tank.
  • Replace the fuel filler cap and tighten securely.
  • Wipe up any spills immediately. 10 STARTING PROCEDURE WARNING! This machine is shipped without oil and fuel. You MUST ensure all fluid levels are correct before operation otherwise you may cause serious engine damage that will not be covered by the warranty.
  • Place the machine on a flat level surface.
  • Slowly press the primer bulb (2) 5 to 10 times. NOTE: After the 7th press, fuel should be visible in the primer bulb. If it is not, continue to press the primer bulb until you see fuel in the bulb.
  • Push the choke button (16) in, to set the choke to FULL CHOKE position. NOTE: Do not squeeze the throttle lever because the choke will pop out automatically.
  • Pull the recoil starter handle (7) until you feel resistance. Once you feel resistance, pull the recoil starter handle swiftly 3 to 4 times or until you hear the engine turn over or begin to start.
  • Allow the engine to run for 10 seconds then squeeze the throttle lever to release the choke in to the RUN position.
  • Place the machine on flat level ground before starting.
  • Ensure the primer bulb has fuel inside.
  • Pull the recoil starter handle until you feel resistance. Once you feel resistance, pull the recoil starter handle swiftly 3 to 4 times or until the engine starts. 11 STOPPING PROCEDURE
  • Allow the engine to idle for 20 seconds under no load.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the ‘STOP’ position.

12 USING THE MACHINE

CAUTION! Engine housing can become hot during trimmer operation. DO NOT rest or place your arm, hand or any body part against the engine housing during trimmer operation. Extended contact with the engine housing can result in burns or other injuries. ALWAYS position the unit on the operator’s right side. The use of the machine on the operator’s left side will expose the user to hot surfaces and can result in possible burn injuries. To avoid burns from hot surfaces, NEVER operate the machine with the bottom of the engine above waist level. WARNING! You MUST STOP using the machine if any of the following occur. - The engine speed changes with no control. - When blades are damaged. - In case of misfire. - In case of high vibration. - In rain or stormy weather. CAUTION! When you use this machine, always wear the provided harness. Make sure that the machine is securely hooked onto the strap. If you do not, you will not be able to control the machine safely which may resultin injury to yourself or others. NEVER use the harness with any type of defect, especially with a defective quick release mechanism.

  • Always trim or cut with the engine running at high speed.
  • Do not run the machine slowly except for when warming up before use or cooling down after use.
  • Swing the cutting head of the cutter horizontally from left to right.
  • Keep the cutting deck parallel with the ground. DO NOT tilt the cutting blade head during operation.
  • Keep the cutting blade at the same level for even depth of cut.
  • The metal blade is to be used for brush only.
  • To prevent overheating NEVER over cut, instead cut off smaller lengths of brush.
  • If brush becomes tangled in the blade, you MUST stop the engine and remove the spark plug HT lead cap BEFORE attempting to remove the blockage.
  • NEVER raise the cutting blade above knee height during operation.
  • DO NOT use the machine on a slope or uneven ground or if there is the chance of slipping or losing stability.
  • NEVER over cut, instead cut short lengths then cut successively lower heights.

  • Move around the tree in a clockwise direction. Approach grass/weeds with the tip of the cutting blade.
  • Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating blade.
  • Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling or the rotating blade which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory’s rotation at the point of the binding.
  • Kickback is a result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions.
  • Maintain a firm grip on the machine and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces.
  • ALWAYS use both hands on the handle bar for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start up.
  • The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
  • NEVER place your hand near the rotating blade. The blade may kickback over your hand.
  • DO NOT position your body in the area where the power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback will propel the tool in the direction opposite to the blades movement at the point of snagging.
  • Use special care when working in corners.
  • Avoid bouncing and snagging the cutting head.

13 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

WARNING! Before cleaning, inspecting or repairing your unit, you MUST make sure that the engine has stopped and allowed to cool. You MUST disconnect the spark plug HT lead cap to prevent any accidental starting. CAUTION! ALWAYS refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and the spark plug HT cap removed. Whilst carrying out maintenance you MUST wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Suggested PPE Sturdy footwear, work gloves, long trousers and hearing protection. NOTE: Spare parts – If a part needs replacement, you MUST only use parts that meet the manufacturer’s part number specifications. Replacement parts that DO NOT meet specifications may result in a safety hazard or poor operation of the machine and will VOID the warranty. 13.1 Air filter (Fig. 8)

CAUTION! The engine MUST NOT be run without an air filter otherwise piston and/or cylinder damage can occur. This type of damage will NOT be covered under warranty. Maintaining the air filter is very important. If dirt is allowed to get in to the engine through improperly installed, serviced or inadequate filter elements, it can damage and wear out the engine. ALWAYS keep the filter element clean.

  • Press down on the latch tab on the top of the air filter housing and open the air filter cover.
  • Remove the air filter. (Fig. 8)
  • Clean the filter with a jet of dry compressed air until all dust and debris has been removed. NOTE: DO NOT allow any dirt or debris to enter the carburetor chamber as this could cause rapid engine wear.
  • Reinstall the air filter and close the air filter cover.
  • Carefully remove the spark plug HT lead cap.
  • Remove the spark plug using the box spanner provided in an anti-clockwise direction.
  • Check the spark plug for visible damage and electrode erosion.
  • If damaged you MUST replace the spark plug.
  • Remove carbon deposits from the spark plug using a soft wire brush.
  • The spark plug gap should be 0.6 – 0.8 mm. Check the gap using a feeler gauge and adjust as necessary by carefully bending the side electrode to achieve the correct gap. (Fig. 9)
  • Refit the cleaned and adjusted spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading.POWXG50200 EN Copyright © 2021 VARO P a g e | 12 www.varo.com
  • After spark plug seats then tighten as necessary but avoid over-tightening.
  • Re-attach the spark plug HT lead cap and spark plug maintenance cover.
  • Open the cutting line spool by pressing the two release buttons on the side and take out the winding core (Fig. 10-11).
  • Divide the cutting line in to 2 equal halves.
  • Fix it in the winding core and start to wind the cutting line in to the two separated rails (Fig. 11). Please follow the indicated winding.
  • Fix the 2 cutting line ends at the opening (15 cm) to keep the cutting line winded tightly (Fig. 12).
  • Guide the 2 cutting line ends into the holes on the spool housing and refit the spool cover (Fig. 13).

  • If you do overfill, drain the oil in to a suitable container.
  • Replace the oil filler cap and tighten securely.
  • If the machine has been used, allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before loading it in to the transport vehicle.
  • To prevent fuel spillage, the machine should be secured upright in its normal working position.
  • If transporting over rough terrain, remove all the fuel from the fuel tank.
  • DO NOT drop or strike the machine when transporting.
  • DO NOT place heavy objects on top of the machine.
  • The following steps should be taken if you store the machine for more than 30 days: - Drain all the fuel from the fuel tank into a suitable container. - Remove the maintenance cover to gain access to the carburettor. - Turn the ignition switch to the ‘ON’ position and loosen the carburettor drain screw to allow the fuel in the carburettor to drain into a suitable container. - Remove the spark plug HT lead cap and pull the recoil starter handle three to four times to remove all the fuel from the fuel lines. - Turn the ignition switch to the ‘OFF’ position and tighten the carburettor drain plug screw. - Change the engine oil following the procedure in 12.4. - Remove the spark plug and pour a tablespoon of fresh engine oil down the cylinder bore.POWXG50200 EN Copyright © 2021 VARO P a g e | 13 www.varo.com - Pull the recoil starter handle three to four times to distribute the oil along the cylinder bore, then refit the spark plug.
  • Store in a dry place away from sources of ignition.

  • Repairs may only be carried out by an authorised customer service centre for Powerplus tools.

  • Any transportation costs shall always be borne by the customer, unless agreed otherwise in writing.
  • At the same time, no claim can be made on the warranty if the damage of the device is the result of negligent maintenance or overload.
  • Definitely excluded from the warranty is damage resulting from fluid permeation, excessive dust penetration, intentional damage (on purpose or by gross carelessness), inappropriate usage (use for purposes for which the device is not suitable), incompetent usage (e.g. not following the instructions given in the manual), inexpert assembly, lightning strike, erroneus net voltage. This list is not exhaustive.
  • Acceptance of claims under warranty can never lead to the prolongation of the warranty period nor commencement of a new warranty period in case of a device replacement.
  • Devices or parts which are replaced under the warranty therefore remain the property of Varo NV.
  • We reserve the right to reject a claim whenever the purchase cannot be verified or when it is clear that the product has not been properly maintained. (Clean ventilation slots, carbon brushes serviced regularly, etc.).
  • Your purchase receipt must be kept as proof of date of purchase.
  • Your appliance must be returned undismantled to your dealer in an acceptably clean state, (in its original blow-moulded case if applicable to the unit), accompanied by proof of purchase. 17 ENVIRONMENT Should your appliance need replacement after extended use, do not discard it with the household rubbish but dispose of it in an environmentally safe way. Please dispose of used motor oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment. We suggest you take it in a sealed container to your local service station for reclamation.
