Mai 2015 11:12 1112 Safety Instructions 2 Safety Instructions Connecting the appliance safely Since the appliance is operated with electrical current, there is a danger of electric shock. Therefore: – Only connect and start up the vacuum cleaner according to the de- tails on the name plate (underside of the appliance). – Check the appliance and power cable for possible damage before use. Never operate a defective appliance or an appliance with a de- fective power cable.
Never try to repair the appliance or its power cable yourself. To pre- vent hazards, repairs to the appliance and the power cable may only be made by our customer service. Give a defective appliance to a dealer or make contact with SEVERIN customer service. – Do not immerse appliance in water or other liquids or treat it with liq- uids. Do not operate the appliance outdoors or in rooms with high hu- midity. Do not handle t he plug with wet hands.
Make sure that the power cable is not kinked, crushed or run over and that it does not come into contact with sources of heat, humidity and sharp edges. Make sure that the power cable does not become a stumbling hazard. – Do not pull or transport the appliance using the power cable. When unplugging the plug from the outlet, always pull directly on the plug. – If possible, do not use an extension cable. If this is unavoidable, only use GS-tested, simple extension cables (no multi-outlet adapters) that are designed for the appliance's power consumption. – Before cleaning or maintaining the appliance, as well as before changing accessories, switch off the appliance and unplug the plug from the outlet. Mai 2015 11:12 1113 Safety Instructions Safety of particular groups of people – This appliance may only be used by children over the age of 8 and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge when they are supervised or if they have been instructed about the safe use of the appliance and have understood the risks resulting fr om the use of the appliance.
Children may not play with the appliance or stand or sit on the appli- ance. Cleaning and user maintenance may not be performed by chil- dren without supervision.
Keep children younger than 8 away from the appliance and power cable. – Keep packaging materials out of the reach of children and dispose of them. Otherwise they pres ent a suffocation risk. Intended use The appliance may only be used in households. Only vacuum dry, nor- mally-soiled floors or, depending on the accessories, also furniture and upholstery. Any other use is improper and is forbidden. In order to prevent injuries, fires and damage, the appliance may not be used to vacuum: – People, animals and plants. Always keep nozzles and vacuum open- ings away from all body parts, hair and clothing. Do not vacuum near your head. – Glowing or burning particles (such as ash, coals, charcoal, ciga- rettes, matches). – Explosively or flamm able materials or toner.
Water and other liquids, e.g. damp carpet cleaners. – Pointy objects such as glass splinters, needles or construction waste. BC7045.book Seite 13 Mittwoch, 6. Mai 2015 11:12 1114 Usage 3 Usage Assembly and changing of accessories – Only attach appliance parts when the plug has been disconnected from the mains socket. – Only use undamaged nozzles. Damaged nozzles can scratch surfaces. For additional tips re- garding assembly and changing of accessories, see also illustrated Quick Start Guide. Vacuuming – Especially when vacuuming stairs, make sure that you are always above the appliance. Other- wise the appliance may fall down and cause injuries. – Only use the appliance with a dust bag and the filters. If there is no dust bag, the appliance cov- er will not close. – Follow the cleaning and maintenance instructions of the floor covering, carpet or furniture man- ufacturer! – When pulling in the power cable, hold the plug in your hand and slide it in the direction in which the cable is winding. Otherwise the power cable can whip around, injure persons nearby, be- come a stumbling hazard or take objects along with it. For additional application tips, see also illustrated Quick Start Guide. Adjusting the suction power You may steplessly adjust suction power via the power regulator. You should adjust the power reg- ulator position with respect to the floor to be cleaned: – Maximum power: for hard floors with crevices, heavily soiled carpets – High power: for carpets, rugs and the like – Moderate power: for upholstery and mattresses – Minimum power: for curtains, drapes and the like maxmin BC7045.book Seite 14 Mittwoch, 6. Mai 2015 11:12 1115 Maintaining and cleaning the appliance 4 Maintaining and cleaning the a ppliance Changing the dust bag – Before changing the dust bag, switch off the appliance and disconnect the plug from the mains socket. – Change the dust bag when the dust bag change indicator appears in the inspection glass, the vacuuming performance declines notably, before long storage or before shipping. – The dust bag and its contents can be disposed of in normal household garbage unless it con- tains dirt that is forbidden in the household garbage. Be sure to replace the dust bag with a dust bag of the same type: Cleaning or replacing the filter – Before changing or cleaning the filter, switch the appliance off and disconnect the plug from the mains socket. – The motor filter can be washed, however it cannot be washed in the dishwasher or washing ma- chine. – Rinse the motor filter out thoroughly under running water (illustrated Quick Start Guide, detail
Let the motor filter dry for approx. 24 hours at room temperature after cleaning. Only insert the motor filter when it is completely dry. – To clean the exhaust filter, first knock the dust out of it then brush with a soft brush. (illustrated Quick Start Guide, detail ). Cleaning – Before cleaning, switch off the appliance and disconnect the plug from the mains socket. – The housing and power cable may not be handled with liquids or immersed in liquids for reasons of electrical safety. Rub housing with a slightly damp cloth and then dry. – For cleaning, do not use any sharp or scouring cleansers or hard brushes. Mai 2015 11:12 1116 Maintaining and cleaning the appliance Troubleshooting by yourself So that as few problems as possible arise, it is important to change the dust bag regularly and take this opportunity to check the filters and clean them if they are dirty. Before contacting our customer service, check with the help of below table whether you can correct the problem yourself. Problem Solution Dust bag change indica- tor appears in the win- dow The dust bag needs to be replaced page 15, "Changing the dust bag". It is recommended to service the filters at this occasion as well page 15, "Cleaning or replacing the filter". The appliance stops sud- denly The integrated overheating protection has tripped (possibly due to a full dust bag or the like) In this case, clear the problem as follows:
1. Switch off the appliance.
2. Pull plug from mains socket.
3. Remove the cause of overheating (either by replacing the dust
bag page 15, "Changing the dust bag", cleaning the filters page 15, "Cleaning or replacing the filter" or disassembling telescopic tube and suction hose to remove blockages that might have built up).
4. Be sure to also check hose, nozzles and telescopic tube when
searching for the cause of overheating.
