Frequently Asked Questions - KA 0912 Ideeo

How to prepare coffee with the Ideeo KA 0912 coffee maker?
Fill the water tank with cold water, place a size 4 paper filter in the filter holder, add ground coffee (about 6 g per cup), close the filter holder, place the carafe with lid, plug in and turn on using the switch. Wait for complete percolation before removing the carafe.
What type of filter should I use?
Use a size 4 paper filter. Fold the sides along the perforations before inserting into the filter insert.
How to descale the machine?
Mix 2 to 3 tablespoons of white vinegar with the maximum amount of cold water. Pour into the tank, insert a paper filter without coffee, and run a brewing cycle. Repeat if necessary. Then run 2-3 cycles with clean water to rinse.
How to clean the machine?
Unplug and let cool. Clean the exterior with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent. Never immerse the appliance in water. The carafe and lid can be washed in the dishwasher.
Can the carafe go in the dishwasher?
Yes, the carafe and its lid are dishwasher safe.
What to do if the machine stops working?
First check the plug and voltage. If the problem persists, contact an authorized after-sales service center (see list in the appendix). Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
Can I use the machine without a paper filter?
No, you must use a size 4 paper filter to retain the coffee grounds. The filter holder is designed for this purpose.
How to avoid burns when refilling?
After a brewing cycle, wait for the appliance to cool before filling the water tank with cold water, as hot water or steam may escape from the outlet spout.
Does the warming plate stay on?
The warming plate stays hot as long as the appliance is on, to keep the coffee warm. Always turn off the appliance after use and unplug it.
What is the warranty period?
The warranty is 2 years from the date of purchase, covering material and manufacturing defects. Keep the sales receipt as proof.

Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, it must not be used any longer: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
Before use, make sure that the handle of the glass carafe is properly and securely fitted. If necessary, the metal ring may be tightened by means of the screw in the handle.
During operation, the coffee maker must be placed on a level, non-slip surface, impervious to splashes and stains.
Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to touch hot surfaces or to come into contact with any heat sources.
Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.
The hot-plate becomes very hot during operation.
To prevent the danger of hot water or steam being emitted, always switch off the coffee maker and allow sufficient time for the appliance to cool down before it is opened or any accessories or attachments are removed.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket

in case of any malfunction,

after use, and also

before cleaning the appliance.

When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

Before using for the first time

Before making coff ee for the fi rst time, let the appliance go through two or three ft ltration cycles using the indicated maximum amount of cold water, but without using ground coff ee. This should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and after descaling.

General information

A measuring scale on the water container and on the glass carafe facilitates filling the container with the correct amount of clean water. Make sure that the indicated maximum amount of water is not exceeded.
If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let the appliance cool down for approx. 5 minutes.
Important note: When filling the appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or

steam escaping through the water outlet.

Making coffee

Filling with water:

Open the water container lid, fi ll the container with the desired quantity of water and replace the lid.

Inserting the paper fi Iter:

Open the swing-out filter sideways and insert a size-4 paper filter into the filter insert, first folding down the perforated sides of the filter.

Filling with ground coff ee:

For each regular-sized cup (125ml), a measure of about 6 g (= 1½ - 2 teaspoons) of medium or finely ground coffe will be required. Close the swing-out fi lter afterwards.

Preparing the glass carafe:

Fit the lid onto the carafe, and then place the carafe into the appliance. If correctly inserted, the lid will disable the drip-stop mechanism in the fi liter holder during the brewing cycle.

Starting the brewing cycle:

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the On/Off switch to switch the coffe maker on. The fi ltration cycle starts and the water passes through the fi liter.

Removing the glass carafe:

Wait until all the water has passed through the fiiter before the carafe is removed from the appliance.

Switching off the coffee maker:

The coffe may be kept warm inside the carafe by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. The plate is kept warm until the appliance is switched off. Always switch off the appliance after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Dscaling

Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descending (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to warrant proper functioning.
A lengthening of the brewing time and increased noise during brewing indicate that descending of the coffee maker has become necessary.
An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong descending agents are used. It may also cause the brewing system to leak. We therefore strongly recommend descending the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles. For descending, a vinegar solution may be used as follows:

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar with the indicated maximum amount of cold water.
Pour the descending solution into the water container, insert a paper filter into the filter holder without adding any ground coffee as described in section Making coffee, and let the appliance run through one filtration cycle. Repeat the procedure if necessary. During descending, ensure suffient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
To clean the appliance after descaling, let it run through 2-3 filtration cycles using clean water only.
Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks.

Cleaning and care

Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
To avoid the risk of electric shock do not immerse the coffee maker in water. The appliance may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild detergent. Wipe dry afterwards.

Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.

To remove the used ground coffee, open the swing-out filter and lift out the filter insert. Dispose of the ground coffee (as a natural substance, it may be composted). Rinse out the fi filter insert. Afterwards, replace the fi filter insert and close the swing-out fi liter.
The glass carafe may be cleaned with warm water after use. Wipe dry afterwards

Both glass carafe and lid are dish-washer safe.
