Important safety instructions ✦ Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions. ✦ In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix). ✦ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ✦ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water. GB9 ✦ This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved. ✦ Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance. ✦ Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised. ✦ The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. ✦ This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as - in shops, o ces and other similar working environments, - in agricultural working environments, - by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments, - in bed-and breakfast type environments. ✦ Do not leave the water kettle unattended during operation. Use only pure water when lling the container to the desired level, observing the Min. and Max. markings. Over lling the container may cause danger from boiling water being forced out. ✦ Also beware of the danger of scalding from hot steam being emitted. Therefore, do not touch any parts of the appliance except the handle during use. ✦ Caution! During the boiling process and when pouring out10 hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times. ✦ The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with the appliance. ✦ Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on. ✦ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of su ocation. ✦ Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment tted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse e ects on the operational safety of the appliance. ✦ The appliance must be used only on a heat-resistant, level surface. ✦ Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath. ✦ The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterwards. ✦ Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to come into contact with open ames or any hot surfaces such as hot-plates. ✦ Do not let the power cord hang free, and keep the cord well away from hot parts of the housing. ✦ Always remove the plug from the wall socket, - in case of any malfunction, - after use, - during cleaning. ✦ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with. Thermal safety cut-out The preset thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without any water, or if the heating element is calci ed. Once the safety cut-out has switched o the kettle, it must be allowed to cool down su ciently, or must be descaled before it is switched on again. Before using for the rst time For reasons of hygiene, boil and discard the rst lling of water.11 Boiling water ✦ Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on. ✦ Remove the water container from its base. ✦ Release and open the lid, and ll the container with water to the desired level, observing the Min. and Max. markings. ✦ Before closing the lid and placing the container back on its base, ensure that the appliance has not yet been switched on. ✦ Insert the plug into a suitable wall socket and press the On/O switch. The indicator light comes on. ✦ The boiling process begins. After reaching the boiling point, the appliance is automatically switched o by the integral steam cut-o device. The indicator light goes out. ✦ If you want to interrupt the boiling process, set the On/O switch to its O position. ✦ To pour hot water, remove the container from its base. ✦ To prevent hot steam from being emitted, ensure that the lid remains closed while pouring out the water. ✦ Remove the plug from the wall outlet after use. ✦ Do not leave any residual water in the container. Descaling ✦ Depending on the water quality in your area, lime deposits may build up on the heating plate. It is advisable to remove any such deposits at regular intervals. Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insu cient descaling. ✦ A mixture of 0.5 litres of water and 40 ml of vinegar essence is suitable. - Pour the descaler in. - Switch the appliance on and let the solution reach boiling point. - Leave it to take e ect for a short period. - To clean the container after descaling, rinse thoroughly with clean water. ✦ During descaling, ensure su cient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours. ✦ Do not pour descalers down enamel-coated sinks. Sieve ✦ If necessary, the sieve can be removed from the spout for cleaning. Re- insert the sieve afterwards12 General cleaning and care ✦ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ✦ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the kettle and the base with water and do not immerse them in water. Do not clean under running water. ✦ For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used. ✦ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions, and do not use hard brushes for cleaning. Disposal Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter. Guarantee This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modi ed, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse. This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not a ect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return.
