Frequently Asked Questions - TO 2049 SEVERIN

How to clean the Severin TO 2049 mini oven?
Before cleaning, unplug the appliance and let it cool down. The exterior can be cleaned with a non-fluffy damp cloth. The baking pan, grid, and crumb tray can be washed in the dishwasher. Never use abrasive products or oven cleaning sprays. For the cooking plates, wipe off splashes with a damp cloth after use.
What to do if the oven light does not turn on?
Make sure the appliance is off and unplugged. The bulb is located at the back of the right oven wall, behind a glass plate. Unscrew the top screw, remove the plate, then turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Replace it with a new 15W bulb (E14 base) by turning clockwise. Reinstall the glass plate and tighten the screw.
Can I use an aluminum pan on the cooking plates?
Yes, provided the pan has a flat bottom and is clean and dry on the outside. It is recommended to use pans designed for hotplates. Make sure the pan diameter is at least equal to that of the plate to avoid uneven heat distribution and damage.
How to change the bulb of the Severin TO 2049 oven?
Switch off and unplug the appliance. Remove the glass plate protecting the bulb by unscrewing the top screw. Turn the defective bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Insert a new 15 W bulb (E14 base) by turning clockwise. Replace the glass plate and tighten the screw.
The oven is not heating enough, what to check?
Check that the temperature selector is set to an adequate level (1 to 3) and that the 5-position switch is set to the desired function (heating element(s) activated). Preheat the oven for a few minutes with the heating elements on. Make sure the door is properly closed and the crumb tray is in place.
Can I use baking paper in this mini oven?
It is not recommended to use baking paper if it comes into direct contact with the heating elements as it could burn or ignite. Preferably use the provided baking pan or grid. If using paper, ensure it does not extend beyond the food and is suitable for oven use.
How to grill toasts with the Severin TO 2049?
Place the toasts on the grid in the middle of the oven. Set the switch to the top heating element only (or both). Select a high temperature (position 3). Monitor cooking as the grill is very powerful. Use the handle to open the hot door.
What type of pans to use on the cooking plates?
Only use pans with a flat bottom, clean and dry on the outside. Pans specifically designed for hotplates (slightly concave bottom) are recommended. Avoid dirty pans that can damage the plate. The pan diameter must be at least equal to that of the plate for optimal heat distribution.
Why does a burning smell occur on first use?
This is normal. During first use, manufacturing residues and the protective coating on the plates burn off. Heat the empty oven for 10 minutes with both heating elements, and the plates at maximum power for 3 minutes. Ensure sufficient ventilation. The odor will disappear after a few uses.
Does the Severin TO 2049 turn off automatically?
No, this appliance does not have an automatic shut-off function. It must be turned off manually by setting the switch to the '•' (small dot) position and unplugging it after use. Never leave the appliance operating unattended.

Before using for the first time

  • Clean the appliance (see General care and cleaning) and remove any packing materials completely.
Before using the appliance for the first time, let the interior heat up for 10 minutes with both heating elements on. A slight smell may be emitted; this is

normal and will only last for a very short time. Ensure sufficient ventilation.

Before using the hot-plates for the first time, let them heat up for approximately 3 minutes at maximum power, while ensuring sufficient ventilation. This will help to 'burn in' the protective coating which safeguards the hot-plates against corrosion. During this process, a slight smell and a little smoke may be emitted. This is normal and will only last for a very short time.

Using the oven compartment

  • Pre-heat the oven compartment for several minutes with the door closed, using both heating elements. Set the temperature control knob to the required level.
  • With one or both heating elements switched on, the compartment is illuminated by the interior lamp.
  • Place the food to be cooked on the baking rack. When cooking food containing fat or moisture, use the baking tray to stop any dripping into the interior of the appliance.
  • Close the door and set the temperature control knob to the required level.
  • For overhead baking or grilling, either the upper or the upper and lower elements may be selected.
  • The switch settings (upper heat/ lower heat) may be changed during the cooking process.
  • To interrupt the cooking process temporarily, set the 5-position switch to the '●' position (small dot symbol).
  • Always use the door handle to open the hot door after use. When removing the baking tray, use the tray handle provided. To remove the baking rack, an oven cloth must be used. Always place the baking tray on a heat-resistant surface.
  • After use, set the 5-position switch to the '●' position (small dot symbol) and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Using the hot-plates

Always place a pot / saucepan on the hot-plate and set the 5-position switch to the '●' position (large dot symbol) before switching on.
- With one or both hot-plates switched on, the indicator lamp is lit.
- Ensure that the pot is clean and dry on the outside. Do not use stain covered or soot pots / saucepans.
- To prevent damage to the hot-plate, only use pots / saucepans with flat bottoms. Most suitable are pots specifically designed for use on electric plates (see picture I).
- Always make sure that the pot / saucepan used is of at least the same diameter as the plate; this minimises the loss of heat and prevents the plate from being damaged as a result of uneven heat distribution.
- After use, set the 5-position switch to the '●' position (small dot symbol) and remove the plug from the wall socket.
