Heating-up for the fi rst time ∙ Insert the plug into a suitable earthed power outlet. ∙ Let the grill heat up without any food for about 10 minutes, with the hood closed, at maximum power. This will remove the smell typically encountered when fi rst switching on a grill. A little smoke may be emitted; this is quite normal, but ensure there is adequate ventilation by opening windows or balcony doors. ∙ Clean the grill plate as described in the Cleaning and care section. Thermometer The hood thermometer shows the current temperature inside the cooking chamber. Grill plate ∙ The grill plate has a long-life ceramic- type coating, allowing for high- temperature grilling without (or with very little) fat/oil. ∙ Before grilling such foods as vegetables or fi sh, use a pastry brush or kitchen paper to apply a little heat-resistant fat/ oil to the grill plate (frying fat, or coconut, palm, sunfl ower or rape/canola oil). ∙ Oils that are not heat resistant can burn into the ceramic-type surface and permanently damage its non-stick properties. ∙ For detailed information on cleaning the appliance, please refer to the section Cleaning and care. Grilling ∙ Check that the barbecue grill has been correctly assembled and is standing securely. ∙ Insert the plug into a suitable earthed power outlet. ∙ Turn the thermostat control knob to position MAX. The indicator light comes on, and the grill plate heats up. ∙ Once the temperature is high enough, open the hood and put the food on. ∙ Grilling is possible with the hood open or closed. With it closed, higher temperatures are reached and – because of an effect similar to a baking oven – indirect grilling takes place. ∙ The temperature can be adjusted as necessary, up or down, with the temperature control. ∙ Once the grilling process is fi nished: ∙ Turn the thermostat control knob back to19 position MIN. ∙ Remove the plug from the power outlet fi rst, and then disconnect the thermostat plug. ∙ Allow the grill to cool down. Cleaning and care ∙ Ensure that the grill is thoroughly cleaned after use. ∙ Before cleaning, disconnect the appliance from the mains fi rst, then remove the thermostat plug and let the grill cool down. ∙ Do not use metallic pads, steel wool or abrasive cleaning agents. ∙ Wipe the grill plate with kitchen paper. To remove persistent food residues, the plate must be detached and then cleaned in soapy water with a soft sponge - it may also be left to soak for a while. The grill plate and especially the thermostat connection must be thoroughly dried. ∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the power cord or thermostat plug with any liquid and do not immerse them. The thermostat connection may be wiped with a slightly damp lint-free cloth. ∙ If necessary, the hood and grill pan may be cleaned with a cloth soaked in soapy water; wipe thoroughly dry afterwards. ∙ The fat collection tray can be cleaned in soapy water. ∙ The individual components are not dishwasher-safe.
