Congratulations! By purchasing the SilverCrest SMH 6 A1 electric salt or pepper mill, hereinafter referred to as mill, you have opted for a high-quality product. Familiarise yourself with the mill before using it for the first time and read these operating instructions carefully. Observe the safety instructions and only use the mill in the manner described in these operating instructions and for the indicated fields of application. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place. Hand over all documents in the event that you pass on the mill to a third party. This mill is a household device and is only intended for grinding peppercorns or coarse salt. It should not be used in tropical climates. The mill is not intended for business or commercial use. Use the mill solely for private purposes; any other use is deemed improper. This mill meets the requirements of all relevant standards and guidelines related to CE conformity. Compliance with these standards is no longer guaranteed if a change is made to the mill without the authorisation of the manufacturer. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any damages or faults arising as a result. Only use the accessories provided by the manufacturer. Please observe the national regulations and/or laws in the respective country of use.
Unpack the mill and all of the accessories. Remove all packaging materials and check all of the components for completeness and signs of damage. 4. Safety instructions
Before using the mill for the first time, please read the following instructions carefully and observe all warnings, even if you are familiar with using electronic and household devices. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place for future reference. If you give away the mill or sell it, please ensure that you also pass on these operating instructions. They are part of the mill. Explanation of symbols used DANGER! This icon, together with the word ‘Danger’, indicates an impending dangerous situation which, if not prevented, can lead to serious injuries or even death. WARNING! This icon indicates important information for the safe operation of the mill and user safety. This icon indicates products that have been tested in relation to their physical and chemical composition and that in accordance with EC 1935/2004 have been regarded as harmless to health in terms of contact with foodstuffs.SilverCrest SMH 6 A1 English - 15 DANGER! Risk of injury! Children and people with disabilities This mill may be used by children aged eight and over and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or who lack experience and knowledge, provided that they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the mill and understand the resulting dangers. Children must not play with the mill. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. DANGER! The packaging material is not a toy. Children must not play with the plastic bags. There is a risk of suffocation. Store the mill out of reach of children.
DANGER! Batteries Always insert batteries with the correct polarity. When doing so, observe the label in the battery compartment. Do not try to recharge the batteries and never throw them onto a fire. Do not use different batteries (old and new, alkaline and carbon etc.) at the same time. Remove the batteries if you intend not to use the device for a longer period of time. There is a risk of explosion and leakage if the device is not used properly. Batteries must not be opened or deformed in any way because leaking chemicals can cause injury.SilverCrest SMH 6 A1
Remove leaking batteries immediately in order to prevent damage to the mill. You can remove battery fluids with a dry, absorbent cloth. When doing so, wear suitable gloves! Contact with your skin must be avoided. If it comes into contact with the skin or eyes, rinse/wash the area with plenty of water and seek medical attention. If a battery is swallowed, you must seek medical attention immediately.
DANGER! Risk of injury! Never open the housing of the mill. There is a risk of injury if the device is assembled incorrectly. Furthermore, opening the housing will void your guarantee. The mill must not be used if it is damaged. There is a risk of injury! Make sure there are no naked flames (for example, burning candles) placed on or near the mill. There is a risk of fire!
WARNING! Damage to property Never immerse the mill in water or any other liquid. If liquid enters into the mill, remove the batteries immediately and contact the service department (see ‘Warranty information’ section). The mill must not be exposed to direct sources of heat (for example, heaters), direct sunlight or strong artificial light. Make sure that the mill is not exposed to excessive shocks or vibrations.SilverCrest SMH 6 A1 English - 17 No foreign bodies should penetrate into the device. The mill must not come into contact with hot surfaces. The mill must be filled with peppercorns and coarse salt only. Keep the mill clean.

6. Before initial use
Remove the SMAS 6 A1 mill and all accessories from the packaging and check the completeness of the delivery. Keep the packaging material away from children and dispose of it in an environmentally-friendly manner.
7.1. Inserting the batteries/filling the mill Hold the container (6) firmly and turn the top section (1) anti-clockwise until the arrow on the top section (1) is lined up with the icon on the container (6). Remove the top section (1) from the container (6). Remove the motor (3) from the container (6). Insert the batteries with the correct polarity (note the + and - signs). The polarity is marked on the batteries and on the battery compartment. Fill the container (6) with peppercorns or coarse salt. Fill the container (6) up no higher than the padlock icons and . Place the motor (3) onto the container (6). Make sure that the contacts (4) of the motor (3) are positioned on the contacts (5) of the container (6). Place the top section (1) onto the container (6). Hold the container (6) firmly and turn the top section (1) clockwise until the arrow on the top section (1) is lined up with the icon on the container (6). 7.2. Using the mill Remove the protective cap (7) on the bottom of the container (6). Keep the button (2) pressed to activate the mill. The light (8) lights up during operation. Replace the protective cap (7) onto the bottom of the container (6) after use.SilverCrest SMH 6 A1
7.3. Changing the grind setting Remove the protective cap (7) on the bottom of the container (6). Turn the adjusting screw (9) anti-clockwise slightly for a coarser grind setting. Turn the adjusting screw (9) clockwise slightly for a finer grind setting. Replace the protective cap (7) onto the bottom of the container (6).
WARNING of damage to property Do not use any scratching or abrasive cleaning agents or abrasive objects (such as a metal scourer) for cleaning purposes. Otherwise the mill may be damaged. Do not clean the mill and its accessories in the dishwasher, as this may cause irreparable damage. Never immerse the mill in water or any other liquid. No liquid may enter the mill. Clean the housing of the mill with a soft, damp cloth, using a mild detergent for stubborn stains. Dry all of the parts thoroughly. It is not necessary to clean the grinder and the container (6).
9. Storing the device when not in use
If the mill is not going to be used for a longer period of time, store it in a safe, clean and dry place. Remove the batteries. Empty the container (6). Before storing the mill, clean it thoroughly as described in the previous section.
If the mill does not work as usual, use the following instructions to try and solve the problem. If working through the following tips does not eliminate the fault, please contact our hotline (see the ‘Warranty information’ section). 10.1. The mill is not working The batteries are dead. Please replace the batteries with new ones of the same type. Please refer to the instructions in the ‘Inserting the batteries/filling the mill’ section. The batteries were inserted incorrectly. 11. Environmental and waste disposal information
Devices marked with this symbol are subject to the European Directive 2012/19/EU. Electrical and electronic devices may not be put in the household waste, but must be disposed of via designated public disposal centres. By properly disposing of the old device, you can avoid environmental damage and hazards to health. Further information regarding proper disposal of the old device can be obtained from your local authority or the shop where you purchased the device. Think about environmental protection. Used batteries do not belong in normal domestic waste. You must dispose of them at a collection point for old batteries. Please note that you should only dispose of batteries in collection containers for old batteries when they are fully discharged. If the batteries are not completely dead, you need to take precautionary measures before disposal to prevent short circuits. Make sure the packaging is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Cardboard packaging can be put out for waste-paper collection or taken to public collection points for recycling. The plastic packaging used for your device is collected by your local waste management company and disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner.

13. Warranty information

Warranty conditions The warranty period commences upon the date of purchase. Please keep the original receipt in a safe place as it is required as proof of purchase. If any material or manufacturing faults occur within three years of purchase of this product, we will repair or replace the product free of charge as we deem appropriate. Warranty period and legal warranty rights The warranty period is not extended in the event of a warranty claim. This also applies to replaced and repaired parts. Any damage or defects discovered upon purchase must be reported immediately when the product has been unpacked. Any repairs required after the warranty period will be subject to charge. Scope of warranty The device was carefully manufactured in compliance with stringent quality guidelines and subjected to thorough testing before it left the works. The warranty applies to material and manufacturing faults. This warranty does not cover product components which are subject to normal wear and which can therefore be regarded as wearing parts, or damage to fragile components such as switches, rechargeable batteries or components made of glass. This warranty is void if the product is damaged, incorrectly used or serviced. To ensure correct use of the product, always comply fully with all instructions contained in the user manual. The warnings and recommendations in the user manual regarding correct and incorrect use and handling of the product must always be observed and complied with. The product is solely designed for private use and is not suitable for commercial applications. The warranty is rendered void in the event of incorrect handling and misuse, if it is subjected to force, and also if any person other than our authorised service technicians interfere with the device.
