THE PRODUCT CONTAINS SMALL PARTS AND PACKAGING MATERIAL THAT CAN BE SWALLOWED! PLASTIC BAGS MUST BE KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN!INTRODUCTIONThe passive speaker simulation DI box ilm, especially for guitarists, is integrated between the effects device or guitar preamp or amplier and mixer. Behind a preamp (line signal) or connected between an amplier and loudspeaker, the Speaker Simulation DI box enables the direct input of guitar signals into the mixer without a mi- crophone. An integrated lter circuit simulates the sound of the speaker required for authentic reproduction. The sound characteristics can be switched between “Bypass”, “Normal”, “Bright” and “Mellow”. speaker simulation DI box passive ilm USER MANUAL13
CONNECTIONS AND OPERATING ELEMENTS
1. INPUT Audio input with 6.3mm jack socket. A. Connect a guitar preamp using a shielded line cable.B. Connect the speaker output of a guitar amplier using a speaker cable.
WARNING:Ampliers must not be operated in bridge mode on the speaker simulation box
WARNING:If an amplier is operated on the speaker simulation DI box, the ground
connection between input and output must be separated (switch no. 6 in the non-pressed LIFT position).
WARNING:The amplier output of a connected amplier must not exceed 120 W at 8 ohms!
ATTENTION: CAUTION when using a tube amplier: There is no load resistance in the speaker simulation box! To prevent damage to the amplier, before switching on the amplier, a suitable guitar loudspeaker or load resistor on the THRU jack socket must be connected using a speaker cable!2. THRUThe INPUT signal (INPUT) is output unchanged via the 6.3mm jack socket THRU.3. ATT = attenuatorRotary switch for adjusting the output level. Recommendation:Connecting a guitar preamp (line signal): 0 dB attenuationConnection of an practice amplier up to an output power of approx. 10 W: 15 dB attenuationConnection of an amplier over 10 W output power (max. 120 W @ 8 ohms): 30 dB attenuation4. TONERotary switch for setting the sound characteristics of the output signal.1 BYPASS: Sound unchanged at time of input signal2 NORMAL: Standard sound setting3 BRIGHT: Bright sound4 MELLOW: Soft sound
Balanced audio output with a male 3-pin XLR socket. Use a balanced shielded cable (microphone cable) to connect the speaker simulation DI box to a balanced input of a mixer or audio interface.
Switch for disconnecting the ground connection from the input and output (ground lift). In the unpressed position, the ground connection is disconnected; the connection is established when the switch is pressed. Being able to prevent a humming loop using the ground lift switch depends on the grounding of the connected device. It is therefore possible that both one and the other switch position is able to effectively reduce or eliminate humming. ATTENTION: Connecting signal cables can cause a lot of noise. Please ensure that the input channel (mixer, audio interface, etc.) is muted during plugging. Otherwise, noise levels may cause damage. PLEASE NOTE: Strong magnetic elds can cause humming. Therefore, do not position the speaker simulation DI box near strong magnetic elds (e.g. mains transformer). MIXER OUTPUT
