Handling and use In this chapter you will receive important information on the handling and opera- tion of the appliance. Suitable laminating pouches For hot lamination, you can use pouches with a width of up to 320 mm and a maximum thickness of 125 µm. Please note that each laminating pouch may only be used once. NOTE ► For hot lamination, use only laminating pouches that are expressly intended for hot lamination. ► For cold lamination, use only laminating pouches that are expressly intended for cold lamination. ► Take note that the laminating pouches supplied with the laminator are intended exclusively for hot lamination.ULG 300 B1

7 ■ Switching levels Selector switch 8 position Pouch thickness switch e position Laminating pouch thickness HOT 80 > 60–80 HOT 125 85–125 COLD 125 up to 200 NOTE ► For high-gloss photos, you should choose the setting "125" as well as well as the corresponding laminating pouch thickness. Preparing for hot lamination ♦ Place the pouch guide rail 1 into the holes designed for this purpose on the rear of the laminator. ♦ Fold out the document supports q so that the documents are pulled into the slot for manual pouch insertion 5 straight. ♦ Insert the plug of the laminator into a mains power socket. ♦ Set the ON/OFF switch 7 to “ON” (I). ♦ Set the selector switch for hot and cold lamination 8 to “HOT” (I). ♦ Set the pouch thickness switch e to the desired pouch thickness (see also section Switching levels). The red ON/OFF indicator lamp 9 lights up. The laminator heats up to operating temperature. As soon as the green indicator lamp “Ready” 6 lights up, the laminator has reached its operating temperature. NOTE ► The attainment of the operating temperature is indicated by the lighting up of the green indicator lamp "Ready"

6. For a more uniform laminating

result we recommend, especially for thinner foils (below 125 µm), and after adjustment to a different foil thickness, that you first wait an additional 2–3 minutes before starting the lamination. ► It is possible that the green indicator lamp "Ready" 6 occasionally goes out and lights up again. This means that the appliance is maintaining the temperature and has heated up again a little. This is not a malfunction of the appliance! ♦ Place the document to be laminated into a laminating pouch of the appropriate size.ULG 300 B1 ■ 8

NOTE ► Ensure that all edges of the document have at least two millimetres of space to the edges of the laminating pouch, as shown in Fig. 1. ► Make certain that you use only one pouch for laminating. First flip it up, as shown in Fig. 2. ► For further information about the lamination process, please read the section Lamination process. Fig. 1 Fig. 2ULG 300 B1

9 ■ Preparing for cold lamination CAUTION ► After hot laminating, allow the laminator to cool down completely before beginning with cold lamination. Bear in mind, the rollers inside the lamina- tor will still be hot. This could damage the laminating pouch and the docu- ment to be laminated! ♦ Place the pouch guide rail 1 into the holes designed for this purpose on the rear of the laminator. ♦ Pull out the document supports q so that the documents are pulled into the slot for manual pouch insertion 5 straight. ♦ Insert the plug of the laminator into a mains power socket. ♦ Set the ON/OFF switch 7 to “ON” (I). ♦ Set the selector switch for hot and cold lamination 8 to “COLD” (O). NOTE ► Note: for cold laminating, always set the pouch thickness switch e to 125 µm. The red ON/OFF indicator lamp 9 and the green indicator lamp "Ready" 6 light up. ♦ Place the document to be laminated into a laminating pouch of the appropri- ate size. NOTE ► Ensure that all edges of the document have at least two millimetres of space to the edges of the laminating pouch, as shown in Fig. 1. ► Make certain that you use only one pouch for laminating. First flip it up, as shown in Fig. 2. ► For further information about the lamination process, please read the section Lamination process.ULG 300 B1 ■ 10

Lamination process ♦ Lay the laminating pouch on the pouch guide rail 1. Lay the right or left edge of the laminating pouch onto the pouch format guide 4 (closed side to the front). ♦ Push the pouch format guide 4 together until the desired format is reached. In this way, you will ensure that the pouch is not pulled in at an angle. NOTE ► If, despite this, the pouch is pulled in at an angle, use the "Anti-blocking function", as described in the section Anti-blocking function (ABS). ♦ Now push the laminating pouch slowly into the slot for manual pouch insertion

♦ When you have slid the pouch several centimetres into the slot for manual pouch insertion 5 it will then be pulled in the rest of the way automatically. Release the pouch as soon as you notice that it is being pulled in automati- cally. CAUTION ► Ensure there is at least 45 cm of open space in front of the laminator. Otherwise, the pouch will not be ejected completely from the laminator after lamination. This could damage the pouch. ♦ The finished laminated pouch is ejected from the pouch slot 0 of the lami- nator. NOTE ► Only after hot laminating: When the finished laminated pouch is ejected from the pouch slot 0 of the laminator, it is hot and can easily change its shape. For this reason, let the laminated pouch cool down for a minute before touching it. ► To improve the lamination result, you can weigh down a still hot laminated pouch with a book, a file folder or any other heavy, flat object. This will help ensure a smooth, perfect surface. ♦ If you are finished laminating, set the ON/OFF switch 7 to “OFF” (O). ♦ Remove the power plug from the mains power socket.ULG 300 B1

11 ■ Anti-blocking function (ABS) At the start of the lamination process, the pouch may be pulled in at an angle or jam itself inside the appliance. ♦ Turn the anti-blocking switch e to the position ABS. The pouch will no longer be drawn in. ♦ Remove the pouch and turn the anti-blocking switch e back to the desired pouch thickness. ♦ Re-start the lamination process. Cutting function If you want to use the cutting function on the pouch guide rail 1, take off the pouch guide rail 1. ♦ If necessary, fold in the document supports

♦ Attach the cutting attachment w so that it creates a flat surface with the pouch guide rail 1. To do this, place the pouch guide rail 1 on a table or another flat surface. ♦ Push the cutting head 3 as far as the stop. The cutting head 3 can be pushed to both ends of the cutting rail 2. ♦ Flip up the cutting rail 2 up using the rounded handle and position the documents on the pouch guide rail 1. Fix the document in place by pushing the pouch format guide 4 together until it is touching both sides of the document. ♦ Use the markings on the scale table to align your document precisely. ♦ Flip the cutting rail 2 down so it clicks into place. ♦ Hold the paper firmly in place with one hand. ♦ To cut, press the cutting head 3 downwards with the other hand and push it over the document in a single movement.ULG 300 B1 ■ 12

Cleaning DANGER Risk to life from electrical current! ► Remove the power plug from the mains socket before starting to clean the appliance. ► Ensure that no moisture can penetrate the device during cleaning. ► Never immerse the appliance parts in water or other liquids! ► Never open the appliance housing. There are no serviceable parts whatso- ever inside. CAUTION Possible damage to the device. ► Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents, as these may corrode the surface of the casing. ♦ Clean the housing of the appliance only with a lightly moistened cloth and a mild detergent. Cleaning the inside of the appliance: During every lamination, contaminants collect on the rollers inside the laminator. Over time, this adversely affects the performance of the laminator. Therefore, you should clean the rollers inside the laminator after every use. ♦ Prepare the appliance as described in the section Preparing for hot lamination, until the green indicator lamp “Ready” 6 lights up. Set the pouch thickness switch e to 80 mic. ♦ Then insert a sheet of A3 paper folded in the middle (maximum thickness

1.0 mm), without a pouch and with the fold at the front, slowly into the slot

♦ Release the sheet as soon as you notice that it is being pulled in automatically. The contaminants on the rollers inside the laminator now firmly attach them- selves to the sheet of paper. The paper is ejected from the pouch slot 0 of the laminator. ♦ Repeat this cleaning process several times. Use a fresh sheet of paper each time. When you no longer see any contaminants on the paper, the rollers inside the laminator are clean.ULG 300 B1
