The maintenance of humidity in the range between 30% and 50% indoors contributes to preventing the growth of mould, mildew, and mites. Staying in rooms infested with mould can harm the human immune system, weakens resistance to respiratory allergies, and has been linked to infections. Excessively dry air indoors can dry out the skin, ir- ritates the throat and paranasal sinuses, and con- tributes to the easier infection of these areas. In a dry climate or in winter, when the air indoors has been made dry by heating, the relative humidity can be increased with the help of a humidifier. Indoor air that is excessively dry can cause wood to contract and split, particularly thin wood such as that used in the making of guitars and violins. During extreme dryness over a long period of time, the splitting of solid wooden beams or plas- ter is also possible. Active heating and ventilating can contribute to creating a comfortable and healthy living climate.36 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 Information on the dew point The dew point is a measure for determining the moisture in the air and is calculated from the relationship of relative humidity to temperature. It defines the temperature at which moisture in the air condenses. The warmer the air, the more moisture it can transport. If dew point and temperature are exactly the same, the humidity is 100% i.e. the air is saturated and the moisture condenses – e.g. indoors on walls, outdoors it leads to the formation of fog or precipitation. Normal indoor air at 22°C and 40% humidity, which is generally found to be comfortable, has – for example – a dew point of approx. 8°C. This information is particularly helpful for preventing the formation of mould. As soon as the temperature of e.g. external walls reaches the dew point or falls below it, moisture will be deposited; in the long term this can lead to the formation of mould.37 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 English Inserting/changing batteries For use you require 2 batteries of type LR03 (AAA), 1.5 V (included).

1. Open the battery compartment on the rear

2. Insert the batteries as shown on the base of

the battery compartment. Pay attention to the correct polarity (+/-).

3. Close the battery compartment again.

Suggestions for changing the battery: A change of batteries is necessary when the battery symbol or nothing at all is shown on the display. Only use the type of battery that is specied in the “Technical Data”. Always exchange all of the batteries at the same time. Dispose of batteries in an environmentally appropriate way (see “Disposal”).38 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 Use Setting the humidity alarm

1. Press and hold the SET button until the ALERT

and buttons, set the upper humidity limit (in 5% increments).

3. Press the SET button again.

On the lower part of the display, ALERT and are shown and the humidity indicator blinks.

and buttons, set the lower humidity limit (in 5% increments).

5. Then press SET or wait approx. 10 seconds

until the indicator returns to normal mode.

6. Press the ON/OFF button to activate the

humidity alarm. ALERT is shown on the display; the humidity alarm is active. To stop the blinking of the symbol and the alarm signal sooner, press any button.39 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 English To switch o the humidity alarm, press the ON/OFF button once. 3. Press and hold the

/°C/°F button again or wait approx. 10 seconds until the display returns to normal mode. As soon as the humidity exceeds the set mould alert value, there is a risk of mould formation. In this case, the MOLD ALERT

symbols are shown on the display. Additionally, the red LED alarm signal blinks every 5 seconds. − Press any button in order to stop the red LED alarm signal. The MOLD ALERT RISK OF MOLD symbols are displayed until the measured humidity once again falls below the input mould limit value.40 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 Selecting the temperature unit − Press the °C/°F button in order to switch between °C and °F. Reading stored MAX/MIN values − Press the MAX.MIN button once for each value. MAX symbol – The maximum values are displayed. MIN symbol – The minimum values are displayed. Deleting stored values: − Press and hold the MAX.MIN button to delete the respective stored MAX or MIN value. The values are then recorded anew.41 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 English Using the graphical representation of the last 12 hours In the graphical representation you can very easi- ly read off the record of the relative humidity and the perceived level in the room within the last 12 hours. Perceived level (comfort index) Relative humidity Too wet 81% to 90% Wet 61% to 80% Comfortable 41% to 60% Dry 31% to 40% Too dry 20% to 30%42 Hygrometer WS 1500/1501 Fault/Remedy Fault Possible Cause Instead of the meas- ured values for tem- perature or dew-point temperature, H.HH or LL.L is shown on the display. The values lie above or below the measurement range. The indicator is illegi- ble, the function is un- clear, or the values are obviously false. Remove the batteries for a few moments.
