As soon as either the MINUTE or HOUR button has been pressed, the time dis- play will stop flashing and the time will be set. 7.2. Preparing the coff ee machine for the brewing process Open the lid of the water tank and fill it with the required volume of cold water for the desired number of cups using the scale on the water tank. NOTE As a result of the evaporation of water during the boiling process, the water level indicator on the water tank will not correspond exactly with the water level indicator on the glass jug. Only use the water level indi- cator in the water tank for filling the coffee machine. Remove the glass jug from the warming plate and press the OPEN button to open the filter compartment. Place the filter insert into the recess in the filter holder. The filter insert can only be inserted into the filter holder in one direction. Place a paper coffee filter (size 1x4) or the supplied permanent filter into the fil- ter holder. Ensure that the filter is positioned evenly in the filter insert. Close the filter holder again. Position the glass jug in the middle of the warming plate and ensure that the jug is positioned precisely underneath the filter holder. The glass jug can only be inserted and removed at the front of the coffee ma- chine. 15486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 2815486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 28 04.09.2014 13:58:5804.09.2014 13:58:5829 of 118
7.2.1. Brewing process using coffee beans
Ensure that the grinder is switched on (Grinder LED is not lit). If necessary, press the GRINDER button so that the GRINDER LED goes out. Open the lid of the coffee bean container. Add coffee beans (max. 200g) to the container and then replace the lid. NOTE To stop the beans from becoming damp, do not add too many cof- fee beans to the coffee bean container. In other words, do not push the beans down into the container. Set the fineness setting with the grinder setting function: Coarser setting Finer setting Set the desired number of cups (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 cups) by repeatedly pressing the CUPS button. If you do not set the number of cups, the largest number of cups (12 cups) will be used for the brewing process. Press the STRENGTH button repeatedly to adjust the strength of the coffee based on the amount of water used: Stronger coffee (less water) Medium strength coffee (normal amount of water) Weaker coffee (more water) Press the PAUSE/START button to start the brewing process. BREW appears on the display.
- The grinder will start operating after around 3 seconds and fills the coffee filter with ground coffee.
- The brewing process will then start.
- Once the brewing process has ended, BREW will disappear from the display and a signal tone will sound. 15486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 2915486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 29 04.09.2014 13:58:5904.09.2014 13:58:5930 of 118
7.2.2. Brewing process using coffee powder
Add the corresponding amount of coffee powder to the filter. The recommend- ed amount is 1 heaped teaspoon per cup. Close the filter holder again. Set the desired number of cups (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 cups) by repeatedly pressing the CUPS button. If you do not set the number of cups, the largest number of cups (12 cups) will be used for the brewing process. Press the STRENGTH button repeatedly to adjust the strength of the coffee based on the amount of water used: Stronger coffee (less water) Medium strength coffee (normal amount of water) Weaker coffee (more water) Ensure that the grinder is switched off (GRINDER LED is lit). If necessary, press the GRINDER button so that the Grinder LED lights up. Press the PAUSE/START button to start the brewing process. BREW appears on the display and the brewing process will start. Once the brewing process has ended, BREW will disappear from the display and a signal tone will sound.
7.2.3. Drip stop function
The drip stop function enables you to serve the already finished coffee while the brewing process is still in progress. Carefully remove the glass jug from the warming plate. The flow of coffee from the filter to the jug will be interrupted; the coffee will now accumulate in the fil- ter. Place the glass jug under the filter again within 30 seconds. Otherwise there is a risk that the filter will overflow. The strength of the coffee that is taken in the middle of the brewing process may differ from the strength of the coffee after the complete brewing process. 15486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 3015486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 30 04.09.2014 13:58:5904.09.2014 13:58:5931 of 118
7.3. Using the timer NOTE The time must be set before you can use the timer. Prepare the coffee machine for a brewing process using coffee beans or coffee powder as previously described but do not start the brewing process. Hold down the TIMER button until the time display flashes. Use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to enter a time at which the brewing pro- cess should start and confirm your entry by pressing the TIMER button again. In order to switch on the timer, press the TIMER button until the time symbol appears on the display. The coffee machine will start the brewing process at the preset time. In order to switch off the timer setting, briefly press the TIMER button until the time symbol on the display disappears. 7.4. End of the brewing process/automatic switch-off You can let the coffee stand for a while in the glass jug on the warming plate. How- ever, please note that the aroma of the coffee will deteriorate after it has stood on the warming plate for a long period of time. The coffee machine will switch off automatically after around 40 minutes. Do not leave an empty glass jug standing on the hot warming plate. 15486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 3115486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 31 04.09.2014 13:58:5904.09.2014 13:58:5932 of 118 7.5. Cleaning and descaling Allow the coffee machine to cool down before cleaning it and pull the plug out of the mains socket. Remove the glass jug and, if necessary, both filters from the de- vice. Only clean the outside of the coffee machine using a damp cloth and, if neces- sary, some mild washing-up liquid. In particular, remove any coffee stains from the warming plate. You can wash the glass jug in a dishwasher. If you wash the jug by hand, do not use any abrasive items or products that could damage the glass! The filter insert can be cleaned by hand.
7.5.1. Emptying the grinder
If you intend to store the coffee machine or not use it for a long period of time, it is necessary to empty the grinder because otherwise any beans remaining in the grinder could become mouldy. Remove the glass jug and the filter insert and make sure that the water tank is empty. Tilt the machine so that any remaining beans fall out of the top of the coffee bean container. Return the coffee machine to an upright position and plug it into the mains socket. Open the filter compartment. WARNING! ROTATING PARTS! Never touch the grinding mechanism if the filter com- partment is open or the device is operating. There is a risk of incurring a crush injury! If necessary, place a small bowl on the warming plate. Start a brewing process using coffee beans, although without adding any water or beans. Once the remaining coffee stops falling out of the bottom of the grinder, press the PAUSE/START button to cancel the brewing process. WARNING! Do not allow the brewing process to run "dry" for longer than 1 minute. There is a risk of overheating that could result in damage to the device! Remove the plug from the mains socket once the process has been completed. 15486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 3215486 DE EN FR NL DK eCommerce Content final.indb 32 04.09.2014 13:59:0004.09.2014 13:59:0033 of 118
In order to prolong the device’s service life and to keep brewing times short, the cof- fee machine must be regularly descaling. The time interval depends on the hard- ness of the water and the frequency with which the device is used. The machine should be descaled at the latest when the brewing process has become significant- ly longer. We recommend an environmentally friendly descaling process using vine- gar or citric acid: Measure out two cups of vinegar or 2 heaped tablespoons of citric acid crystals and add this to eight cups of water. Add the solution to the water tank, close the lid of the filter holder and place the jug underneath. Allow the solution to run through the coffee machine, if necessary a number of times. Rinse the glass jug and the filter holder thoroughly afterwards. Finally, fill the coffee machine with fresh water a number of times and run the machine. If you want to use a commercial descaler (chemical product), observe the instruc- tions provided by the manufacturer of the product. Do not let the chemical descaler drip onto the housing or the warming plate!
