- Remove the packaging.
- Clean the cooler compartment, the lid and the mixing paddle to remove any manufacturing residues. See 'Cleaning and maintenance'.
OPERATION - Freezing the cooler compartment
The most important step in making ice cream is freezing the cooler compartment. This consists of a double-insulated container that needs a certain amount of time to freeze properly. The time depends on the temperature in your freezer.
- Place the cooler container in the freezer. At a temperature of -18 °C it takes at least 12 hours until the container has cooled properly. At a higher temperature this takes longer. Preferably, leave the container in the freezer overnight. If you always leave the container in the freezer you can make ice cream whenever you want!
- Remove the cooler container from the freezer immediately before making the ice cream.
OPERATION - Making ice cream
- Prepare the ingredients and mix them together according to the instructions in the recipe (see 'Recipes').
- With cooked ingredients, place the mixture in a pan of cold water to let them cool down.
- Place the mixture in the refrigerator to let them cool down (further) before you place them in the cooler container (7).
- Insert the mixing paddle (6) in the opening on the underside of the motor housing (1+4).
- Place the motor housing on the cover (5). Push the mixing paddlethrough the hole in the cover. Move the motor housing forwards until it clicks into place in the cover.
- Take the cooler container out of the freezer.
- Place the cover on the frozen cooler container so that the cams on the cover align with the cutouts in the cooler container
- Turn the locking clip (8) clockwise until it clicks into position.
- Put the plug (3) in the wall socket.
- Turn the On/Off switch (2) on (position '1').
- Place the ingredients in the cooler container beaker through the filling opening.

e f ns Figure 2 he- Allow the appliance to run for about 20-40 minutes until the ice cream has reached the required consistency. Make allowance for the fact that the ice cream will not be as hard as store-bought ice cream.
- Switch off the appliance, and remove the plug from the wall socket.
- For harder ice cream, spoon the contents of the cooler container into an airtight freezer box and place it in the freezer for a few hours until it has hardened. You can also place the ice cream in the cooler container, covered, in the freezer for a short time, but not longer than 30 minutes.
OPERATION - Storing ice cream
If you want to keep the ice cream, place it in the freezer in an airtight freezer box. The maximum storage period is one week.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE - Cleaning
Clean the appliance and the loose parts thoroughly after each use:
- Remove the plug from the plug socket.
- Clean the cooler container, the mixing paddle and the cover in warm soapy water. Rinse the parts with ample water and dry them thoroughly.
- Clean the motor housing with a damp cloth. Then dry the parts thoroughly.
- Keep the appliance in a dry place. You can also keep the cooler container in the freezer.

- Verify that the appliance is not connected to the power supply before you start to clean it. Never use corrosive or scouring cleaning products or sharp objects (such as a knife or a hard brush) to clean the appliance.
- Do not immerse the motor housing in water, or in other liquids.
• The appliance and its parts are not dishwasher-proof.

RECIPES
Never fill the cooler container more than half full. The ingredients expand when they freeze.

• The following recipes are based on making 1 litre of ice cream.
If you use raw eggs, use fresh eggs and keep to the storage period (see "Storing ice cream").
Handy tips for recipes
- Mix the ingredients in a separate container, not in the cooler container. If, for example, you mix sugar in the cooler container, you can damage the inside of the container.
- Preferably mix the ingredients with a mixer so that you get a light mixture.
• If you have cooked the mixture, let it cool down first before you place it in the cooler container. - Adding alcohol slows down the freezing process.
- Wash and dry fruit before you mix it with the other ingredients.
Recipes using a custard base
One traditional method of making ice cream is based on custard. The egg yolk, sugar, cream and milk used to prepare this type of ice cream give it the well-known flavour of cream ice. Although the quantities of each ingredient used in the recipes can vary, all use the same basic method:
- Heat the cream and milk almost to boiling point in a saucepan.
- Beat the egg yolks and the sugar in a mixing bowl to obtain a thick mix.
- Add the warm cream/milk to the egg yolk/sugar and stir thoroughly until all the sugar has dissolved.
- Pour the mix back into the sauce pan and allow it to simmer, stirring all the time, to thicken the mix. The mixture has reached the correct consistency when it sticks to the back of a spoon.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and cool the mixture as quickly as possible. Add any other ingredients, where relevant.
Special vanilla cream ice
• 150 g soft brown sugar
• 3 egg yolks
- 500 ml full milk
• 125 ml whipping cream
- 5 ml vanilla essence
Preparation
Prepare the custard base and add the vanilla essence to the milk/whipping cream mix (which must not be boiling). Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 2.
Kirsch cream ice
• 80 grams of sugar
• 3 egg yolks
- 400 ml milk
• 100 ml whipping cream
- 1 / 2 cinnamon stick
• 15 ml Kirsch
• 25 g blackberries
Preparation
Heat half of the milk with 1/3 of the sugar, the whipping cream, the cinnamon stick and the vanilla
scrapings in a sauce pan. Mix the remainder of the sugar with the egg yolks. Once the milk has almost come to the boil add 1/3 scrapings from 1 vanilla pod of the milk to the egg-yolk-mixture; stir continuously while adding the milk. Pour the egg-yolk mixture into a saucepan and add the remainder of the warm milk. Mix thoroughly. Continue to stir until the mixture thickens. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the remaining milk, Kirsch, and blackberries. Stir the mixture well and strain it. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 2.
Recipes using a cream base
Ice cream prepared using a cream base allows the flavour of the other ingredients to dominate; giving them a fuller taste. When making ice cream on a cream basis all you need to do is mix the cream with the fruit and other flavourings.
Cream ice with pieces of mint chocolate
- 250 ml milk
• 250 ml whipping cream - 5 ml peppermint essence
• 150 g plain chocolate
• 75 g soft brown sugar
Preparation
Heat the milk and sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool down completely. Add the whipping cream and the peppermint essence to the milk/sugar mixture, stirring all the while. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 4.
Liquorice-toffee cream ice
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
• 150 ml milk use.
• 300 ml whipping cream
• 180 g liquorice-flavoured toffee
Preparation
Place the toffee in the freezer 30 minutes before use. Take 150 grams of toffee from the freezer and crush it with a rolling pin. Heat the milk, half the whipping cream and the crushed toffee in a saucepan. Keep stirring until the toffee has dissolved. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and put it in a layer of cold water to cool. Cover the mix and put it in a refrigerator until it is cold. Stir the remainder of the
whipping cream into the mixture. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 4. Remove the remainder of the toffee from the deep freezer once the ice cream is almost ready. Crumble the toffee, and add it to the ice cream.
Recipes using a yoghurt base
A healthy variant of ice cream uses yoghurt instead of cream in the custard base. This gives the ice cream its specific fresh flavour. Home-made yoghurt ice cream can, depending on the other ingredients, have a low fat and sugar content.
Yoghurt ice
500 ml skimmed yoghurt in the flavour of your choice. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 4. Allow the appliance to run for about 20-30 minutes until the mix has attained the consistency of freshly-beaten whipped cream.
Pina colada yoghurt ice cream
- 60 g light-brown sugar
- 50 g yoghurt
- 30 ml white rum
• 220 g fresh pineapple pieces
• 12 g freshly-ground coconut
• 12 large, ripe banana - juice from 1 lime
Preparation
Mix all the ingredients in a blender to obtain a smooth mixture. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 3. Allow the appliance to run for about 20-30 minutes until the mix has attained the consistency of freshly-beaten whipped cream.
Recipes using a sorbet base
The sorbet base consists of a sugar syrup solution. Sorbet base should be prepared using 1 kg sugar for every 1 l water.
- Bring the water to the boil in a saucepan.
- Add the sugar, stirring all the while, until it has dissolved completely.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool down completely.
Champagne sorbet
• 225 ml sugar syrup
• 250 ml champagne or dry, sparkling wine
- juice from 1 lime
Preparation
Mix all the ingredients. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 3.
Kiwi sorbet
• 225 grams of sugar
• 250 ml orange juice
- 570 g peeled kiwi
Preparation
Dissolve the sugar in the orange juice. Puree the kiwi in a blender, and mix into orange juice/sugar mix. Then follow the directions in "Making ice cream" from step 3.
