This handy, quiet humidifier changes the atmospheric humidity in your home. It is necessary to humidify the air when the relative atmospheric humidity is low, such as in the summer when using an air conditioner and in the winter when using a heater. By humidifying the air, you produce a more pleasant interior climate and prevent wooden furniture and floors from drying out and cracking. Only use the air humidifier if the air is relatively dry. You can use a hygrometer to measure the atmospheric humidity. The humidifier has a durable vaporiser and a safety device to protect it against becoming empty. The humidifier’s water tank is also easy to see in the dark thanks to the integrated light. Operation and controls See figure 1. The appliance includes the following: 1 Nozzle 2 Water tank handle 3 Water tank 4 Filling opening cap 5 Water tank light 6 Base plate 7 O / / selection switch 8 (heating element on) indicator light 9 I/O (appliance working) indicator light 10 Output regulator 11 Vaporiser housing 12 Water reservoir in the vaporiser 13 Power cord with plug 14 Vaporiser sprayer 15 Float mechanism Before using for the first time 1 Remove all packaging materials. 2 Clean the appliance (see ‘Maintenance and cleaning’). Using the humidifier 1 Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface. Make sure there is sufficient free space around the appliance. This will ensure that the vapour is distributed well and items close to the appliance will not become damp. 2 Remove the water tank from the vaporiser. 3 Remove the nozzle. 4 Hold the water tank upside down and unscrew the cap from the filling opening. 5 Fill the water tank with water (maximum 4.8 litres).

• Use boiled water which has cooled down. This will prevent unwanted bacteria from getting into the water. It will also reduce the amount of scale.

• The water must not be warmer than 40 ° C.

• Change the water daily, even if the appliance has not been used very often.

• Never fill the appliance via the nozzle. A float mechanism in the vaporiser ensures that a controlled amount of water enters the water reservoir from the water tank. 8 Place the nozzle back on the water tank and aim the nozzle in the desired direction. 9 Insert the plug into the plug socket. 10 Turn the selection switch to the required setting. The setting (cold vapour) will normally be used. Select (warm vapour) if you wish to produce a vapour more quickly or if the room is cold. The I/O indicator light will be lit to show that the appliance is working. The indicator light will be lit if the heating element has been turned on. Do not turn the appliance on if there is no water in the water tank. 11 Use the regulator to adjust the output. The appliance can vaporise a maximum of approximately 300 ml of water per hour. 12 If the indicator light and/or the I/O indicator light blinks, it indicates that you need to refill the water tank. Turn off the appliance, remove the plug from the plug socket and repeat steps 2 to

If the indicator light and/or the I/O indicator light blinks, and you do not refill the water tank, the appliance will stop working automatically and the indicator lights go out. Maintenance and cleaning

• Clean the appliance once a week.

• Change the water in the appliance daily, even if the appliance has not been used very often. If this is not done, then bacteria may start to grow in the water, which may be harmful when vaporised.

• Scale may form in the appliance in areas with hard water. If this is the case, regularly clean the appliance, particularly the vaporiser.

• Make sure the plug has been removed from the plug socket before cleaning the appliance.

• Never immerse the appliance in water.

• Make sure no moisture comes into contact with the appliance’s electrical parts.

• Never use aggressive or scouring cleaning products or sharp objects (such as a knife or a hard brush) to clean the appliance. Cleaning the exterior 1 Remove the plug from the plug socket. 2 Clean the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth and a mild cleaning product. 3 Dry the exterior with a tea towel. Cleaning the water tank 1 Fill the water tank with warm water and add a couple of drops of washing-up liquid. 2 Place the cap back on the water tank and rigorously shake the water tank. 3 Drain the suds and rinse the water tank three times with cold water. Princess_HL air_humidifier_360001.book Page 7 Thursday, August 23, 2007 11:35 AM8 Royal Humidifier Article 360001 Cleaning the water reservoir in the vaporiser 1 Use a soft cloth and a drop of washing- up liquid to clean the water reservoir in the vaporiser. 2 Use a soft brush to remove any scale on the vaporiser sprayer and the float mechanism. 3 Rinse the reservoir three times with cold water. Descaling Scale may have a negative effect on the appliance’s performance. Scale often occurs in areas with hard water. We advise you to use a suitable descaling agent when scale appears. Always follow the descaling agent’s instructions. Less scale will form if you use a water purification appliance.

• Use a descaling agent to clean, in particular, the vaporiser and the float mechanism.

• Make sure there is no descaling agent in the water when you use the appliance again.

• Complaints or defects as a result of furring or scale are not covered by the warranty. Storage 1 Clean the appliance as described above. 2 Allow the appliance to dry thoroughly. 3 Store the appliance in a place that is free of dust.

• Do not store the appliance whilst is still has water in it. Bacteria can develop in the water.

• Do not store the appliance in a location where it may freeze. This may cause the appliance to become faulty. Safety General information

• Read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place.

• Only use this appliance in accordance with these instructions.

• Only use this appliance for domestic purposes.

• The use of this appliance by children or persons with a physical, sensory, mental or motor disability or with a lack of the necessary knowledge and experience may cause a hazard. Persons responsible for the safety of these people should give explicit instructions or supervise the use of the appliance.

• Keep an eye on children to make sure they do not play with the appliance.

• Repairs may only be carried out by a qualified service technician. Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Heat and electricity

• Before use, verify that the mains voltage is the same as that indicated on the appliance’s type plate.

• Always remove the plug from the plug socket when the appliance is not in use.

• Always remove the plug from the plug socket by pulling the plug, not the power cord.

• Never pull the power cord to move the appliance.

• Regularly check the appliance’s power cord to make sure it is not damaged. Do not use the appliance if the power cord shows signs of damage. • Never immerse the appliance, the power cord or the plug in water or any other liquid.

• Avoid exposing the appliance to direct sunlight.

• In order for the appliance to work correctly, it must be able to get rid of the heat that it produces. Avoid overheating and the risk of fire. Always keep the ventilation openings free and prevent the appliance from coming into contact with inflammable materials. Make sure there is sufficient free space around the appliance: keep a distance of 50 cm around the appliance free of objects. The appliance must not be covered. During use

• Do not use the appliance where the temperature is 0 °C or less.

• Never use the appliance in a very damp room (such as a bathroom).

• Place the appliance on a stable, flat surface where it cannot fall over.

• Never use the appliance in the vicinity of other electrical appliances.

• Do not allow the power cord to hang over the edge of a kitchen surface, a work surface or a table.

• Always make sure the power cord has been fully unwound.

• Make sure your hands are dry before you touch the appliance, the power cord or the plug.

• Do not touch the vaporiser when it is in use.

• Never move the appliance whilst it is in use.

• Do not add any additives to the water.

• Remove the plug from the plug socket in the event of a malfunction during use, before cleaning the appliance, before fitting or removing an accessory and before storing the appliance after use.

• Do not touch the appliance if it has fallen into water. Remove the plug from the plug socket immediately. Do not use the appliance again.

• Regularly clean the appliance (see ‘Maintenance and cleaning’).

U.K. WIRING INSTRUCTIONS

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

• BROWN LIVE As the colours of the wire in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals on your plug, proceed as follows:

• The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

• The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

If you wish to dispose of the appliance whilst it still works properly or can be easily repaired, ensure that the appliance is recycled. When the appliance reaches the end of its useful life, it should be disposed of in a responsible manner, thereby ensuring the reuse of the appliance or its parts. Do not dispose of the appliance with normal household waste, but hand it over to a recycling collection point.
