How to connect the PLA-407 to my router?

Connect an Ethernet cable from your router's LAN port to the PLA-407's Ethernet port. Then plug the PLA-407 into a power outlet. The power and network LEDs should light up.

How to set up a secure powerline network?

Use the ENCRYPT button on each adapter: press for 2 seconds on the first adapter, then within 2 minutes, press on the second. The LEDs flash to confirm AES 128-bit encryption.

What to do if the power LED does not light up?

Check that the power outlet works by plugging in another device. Make sure the power cable is fully inserted. If nothing lights up, the adapter may be defective.

Can I plug the adapter into a power strip?

It is not recommended to use a power strip as it may filter the powerline signal. Plug the adapter directly into a wall socket for optimal performance.

How to add a second adapter to the network?

Plug the new adapter into a power outlet and connect it to a network device. Use the ENCRYPT button on both adapters to pair them to the secure network.

What is the maximum distance between two powerline adapters?

The distance may vary depending on the quality of the electrical wiring. Generally, up to 300 meters on the same electrical circuit. Beyond that, the signal may degrade.

How to reset the adapter to factory settings?

Press and hold the ENCRYPT button for 10 seconds until the LEDs flash. The adapter restarts and returns to default settings.

Is the PLA-407 compatible with adapters from other brands?

Yes, it is compatible with any standard HomePlug AV adapter, but encryption may not work. It is recommended to use adapters from the same brand for the ENCRYPT function.

What to do if the Internet connection is unstable?

Check that the adapters are plugged directly into wall sockets. Avoid electrical devices that generate interference (chargers, motors). Try changing the outlet.

How to update the firmware?

Go to ZyXEL's website, download the latest firmware for the PLA-407. Connect the adapter to a computer via Ethernet, access the web interface (default IP address 192.168.1.2), and use the update function.

Overview

The PLA-407 allows you to set up a powerline network using the electrical outlets in your home. The figure below shows your PLA-407 (B) connected to a DSL modem (A). You can plug a second PLA-407 (C) into another outlet in your home and connect a computer for Internet access. Use the push-button ENCRYPT feature to set up a secure HomePlug AV compatible powerline network.

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the ETHERNET port on the PLA-407 to an available Ethernet port of your modem, router or switch.
2. Plug the PLA-407 into a power outlet.
3. The power (LED) should be on and the Ethernet (LED) should be on or blinking.

If none of the LEDs are on, unplug your device and recheck your hardware connections.

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the ETHERNET port on the PLA-407 to the Ethernet port on your computer.

2. Plug the PLA-407 into a power outlet.

3. The power (LED) should be on and the Ethernet (LED) should be on or blinking.

4. When the PLA-407 detects a connection to another PLA-407 (or another HomePlug AV compatible powerline adapter), the HomePlug ( LEDs turn on.

Pass-Through Design and Noise Filter

The PLA-407 has a power socket into which you can plug another network device or power strip. The extra socket can filter out interference from the electrical devices so that it does not affect the Powerline network. Refer to the User's Guide for more information on this feature.

Plug in another device such as a router or switch to the Powerline network you have set up.

If you are having trouble setting up your connections, make sure:

• Your outlets are working properly. Unplug the PLA-407 and plug in another electrical appliance that you know works.
• The Ethernet cables you are using are Category 5 or higher. Most cables are labeled with their specifications.
• All Ethernet cables are securely connected.
