Frequently Asked Questions - Invisible Control 6 MARMITEK

How to install the IR receiver?
Place the IR receiver in view of your remote control, at a maximum distance of 10 meters. Use the included adhesive tape to fix it. Test the position before sticking permanently.
How to connect the IR extension cables?
Connect the IR extension cables (with 3 LEDs) to the 'IR OUT' jacks on the IR module. Make sure the LEDs are properly aligned with the IR sensor of the AV device.
Why is my AV device not responding?
Check that the IR receiver is in the line of sight of the remote control and that the LEDs are correctly positioned on the IR sensor. Make sure the 'IR data' indicator blinks when sending a command. Avoid interference sources such as direct sunlight or plasma screens.
What is the maximum range of the system?
The range of the IR receiver is about 10 meters with a reception angle of 60 degrees. The range also depends on the power of your remote control.
Can I use this product with any remote control?
The Invisible Control 6 works with most standard IR remote controls (frequency 30-60 KHz). It is not compatible with some models like Bang & Olufsen.
What to do if the 'IR data' indicator stays on continuously?
This indicates IR interference. Move the receiver away from light sources (sun, screens, fluorescent lamps) or change its location.
How to attach the LEDs to the device's IR sensor?
Use the self-adhesive film on each LED. To find the exact position, illuminate the front with a flashlight to locate the IR sensor. Test before sticking permanently.
Can I use only some of the IR LEDs?
Yes, you can leave unused LEDs in place. Do not remove them from the cable.
How to power the IR module?
Connect the supplied USB power adapter to the 'POWER' jack on the IR module, then plug it into a 100-240 VAC electrical outlet.
What if the cabinet doors are closed but the control does not work?
Make sure the AV devices do not receive a direct IR signal from the remote (this may cause interference). Close the doors properly and check that the receiver is facing the remote control.

3. HOW DOES IT WORK?

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - HOW DOES IT WORK? - 1

Locate your AV device in a closed cabinet or TV unit. The IR receiver (1) must be located in view of your remote control. Stick the IR LEDs (2) on the front panel of your AV equipment and then hide the IR main module (3). Point the remote control towards the small IR receiver in order to send the desired command (via the IR module) to the IR LEDs; these will then send on this infrared command to the AV equipment.

4. INSTALLATION

In order to check that the system works correctly, it is advisable to first test the set-up you had in mind. To do so, connect everything as described below but do not stick the components securely.

4.1 LOCATING THE IR RECEIVER

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - LOCATING THE IR RECEIVER - 1

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - LOCATING THE IR RECEIVER - 2

Place the very small IR receiver (1) that comes with the Invisible Control 6TM so that it can be seen by your (infrared) remote control and receive the commands (max. 10 metres).

  • The most logical location for the IR receiver is, for example, on the cabinet in which the AV equipment is located or near the TV.
  • You can run the cable underneath or behind, using the notch at the back of the IR receiver housing; this allows the cable to be hidden easily.
  • Use the self-adhesive strip which is supplied to locate the IR receiver just about anywhere you please.
  • Experiment with the location before you stick the IR receiver in its final position.

Note! The sticky strip may lead to discolouration or leave glue residues on certain surfaces.

4.2 LOCATING THE IR EXTENDER LED

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - LOCATING THE IR EXTENDER LED - 1

Place the LEDs (2) from the IR extender cable precisely on the IR window (infrared sensor) on the AV equipment that you wish to operate.

  • Ensure that the IR extender cable's LEDs are stuck precisely on the A/V device's infrared sensor (this can be extremely accurate on some devices). The exact position can easily be located by shining a torch on the front panel and looking for the IR sensor window.
  • All IR LEDs include self-adhesive film with which they are attached to your A/V equipment.
  • Test the position and the performance of the IR LEDs before you secure them to the IR window on your AV equipment.
  • If you use just one or two of the three LEDs, you can leave the other IR LED unused. Never remove it from the extender cable!

4.3 LOCATING THE IR MODULE

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - LOCATING THE IR MODULE - 1

Mount the IR Module (3) at an accessible place behind or alongside your A/V equipment, in the vicinity of an electrical socket.

  • Be aware of the cable length of the IR LEDs and the IR receiver.
  • Make sure that the connections remain accessible and that the 'IR data' light remains visible so you can check it is working properly.
  • Use the self-adhesive strip which is supplied to locate the IR receiver just about anywhere you please.

4.4 CONNECTING THE IR MODULE

MARMITEK Invisible Control 6 - CONNECTING THE IR MODULE - 1

  1. Connect the installed IR Extender cables (with the 3 IR LEDs) to the 'IR OUT' connection on the IR Module.
  2. Connect the installed IR Receiver cable to the 'IR IN' connection on the IR Module:
  3. Connect the USB Power adapter to the 'POWER' connection on the IR Module and plug this into an electrical socket.
  4. If the Invisible Control 6TM is correctly connected, the 'IR data' light will blink on the IR Module if you press a button on the (infrared) remote control while pointing towards the IR receiver.
  5. Close the doors of your cabinet to ensure that the A/V equipment cannot receive an infrared command directly from the remote control as this can lead to operational problems.
  6. You can now operate the A/V equipment via the Invisible Control™ through closed cupboard doors!

5. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The AV equipment does not respond to signals from my remote control.

Take the following instructions into account:

  • The IR receiver has a receiving sensitivity of about 10 metres with an acceptance angle of 60 degrees. Range is also dependent on the remote control used.
  • If the 'IR data' light on the IR Module is continuously illuminated, the IR receiver is probably being disrupted by another infrared signal. Try to locate the IR receiver so that it encounters as little disruption as possible from, for example, direct sunlight, Flat Screen TVs, (LCD, Plasma, LED), fluorescent lighting or energy-efficient light bulbs.
  • The IR receiver does not work with some AV devices and models that use higher IR frequencies such as Bang&Olufsen (B&O).
  • Ensure that the IR receiver and the IR extender cable are correctly connected and that these are plugged in properly.
  • Ensure that the IR extender cable's LEDs are stuck precisely on the A/V device's infrared sensor. The exact position can easily be located by shining a torch on them.
  • Some IR windows from set-top and satellite boxes are very sensitive and are easily disrupted. These devices then receive too much infrared light and will either work badly or not work at all. Relocate the IR LED so that less infrared light is received via the IR window.
