1 Safety Instructions about the power supply

Before connecting the device to your power supply, please ensure that the supply voltage stated on the rating plate is compatible with your mains supply.

Do not operate this unit near high frequency electromagnetic sources.

Keep the power cord and the device itself away from heat, hot surfaces, damp and liquids. Avoid touching the plug or power switch with wet or even damp hands, or when you are standing in water.

Parts that conduct electricity on the device must not come into contact with liquid.

If the device falls into water, do not try to pick it up. Instead pull the plug out immediately.

Always make sure that the plug is easily accessible when the device is connected.

Disconnect the plug from the socket immediately after using the device.

Never pull on the power cord to disconnect the appliance from the mains. Always pull out the mains plug!

Do not carry, pull or rotate the device by its power cord. specific groups of people

• This device is not designed to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities, or by persons with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless under observation by a person respon- sible for their safety, or unless they have been instructed in the use of the device.

• You should refrain from using the Shiatsu massage cushion SMC , or should consult your doctor before using it, if - you are pregnant, - you have a cardiac pacemaker, artificial joints or electronic implants, - you suffer from one or more of the following illnesses and complaints: Circulation disorders, varicose veins, open wounds, bruises, broken skin, inflammation of the veins.

The appliance has a heated surface. Persons insensitive to heat must be careful when using the appliance.

Always carefully inspect the cable, the control unit and the massage cushion for damage before use. Do not attempt to use a defective unit.

Do not use the unit if there are visible signs of damage on the unit or the cable components, the unit does not work properly or the cushion or the control unit have been dropped or become damp. In order to prevent hazards, always send the unit in to the service centre. operating the unit

Using the mat for any other purpose invalidates the warranty.

The MEDISANA SMC shiatsu massage cushion has four rotating heads

which rotate in opposite pairs. While the left pair, arranged on a rotating plate,turn anticlockwise, the right pair, also arranged on a rotating plate, turnclockwise. When the direction of rotation is reversed, the two massage headsturn in the opposite direction. The device is also equipped with an optionalheating function for the massage heads. The combination of intensive shiatsumassage and radiated heat makes the massage cushion an effective and relaxingtreatment. Their settings can be comfortably adjusted by means of the easy-to-handle control unit

What is Shiatsu massage?

The use of the Shiatsu massage cushion SMC will improve your wellbeing after a stressful day. The massage effect is particularly useful for treating tensemuscles and tired tissue. The unit provides pleasant relaxation for overcomingeveryday stress. The massaging can improve your well-being, and is also usefulin the sport and fitness areas.Start-up The SMC shiatsu massage cushion has two functions for effective treatment: fingertip massage and heat. The heat function can only be used in combinationwith the shiatsu massage. Place the shiatsu massage cushion on the back of a high-backed chair andfasten it to the back with the strap. Insert plug into the mains socket. Ensure that the power supply is easilyaccessible. Sit on the chair and check that the cushion is in the position you want. • Use the buttons on the control unit to operate the massage cushion.Do not use the unit for more than 15 minutes at a time. After approx. 15 minu-tes, the unit will switch off automatically. Always allow the unit to cool downfully before you use it again.Switching on and operating the unit Switch on the device by pressing Power button . The blue power LEDilluminates. Press the Forward button to activate the massage function with outwardrotation. The blue Forward LED lights up. To change the direction of rotation,press the Reverse button . The Forward LED goes out and the Reverse LEDlights up blue. To switch off the massage function, press the button you lastpressed (

) again. Press the Reverse button to activate the massage function with inwardrotation. The blue Reverse LED lights up. To change the direction of rotation,press the Forward button . ) again. The heat function can be activated at any time with the shiatsu massage.Press the Heat button to activate the function; the red LED lights up. Theheat is radiated through the massage heads . Press the Heat button again to deactivate the heat function; the red LED goes out.To switch off the device Press the Power button . The blue power LED goes out. After each use, switch the device off using the Power button and removethe plug from the mains socket.

Cleaning and maintenance

Before cleaning the unit, make sure it is switched off and disconnected from the mains. Clean the unit once it has cooled down using a soft, damp cloth.

Under no circumstances should you use aggressive detergents, strong brushes, solvents or alcohol, as they may damage the surface of the unit.

When cleaning, never immerse the unit in water and make sure that no water gets into the unit.

• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.

• Undo any kinks in the cable.

• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place. This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste. All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commer- cial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is. The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of

purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.

2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within

the warranty period.

3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the

unit or for the replacement parts.

4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non- observance of the user instructions. b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties. c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre. d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.
